About logistic regression
Hi, I have a dichotomous variable (Q1) whose answers are Yes or No. Also I have 2 categorical explanatory variables (V1 and V2) with two levels each. I used logistic regression to determine whether there is an effect of V1, V2 or an interaction between them. I used the R and SAS, just for the conference. It happens that there is disagreement about the effect of the explanatory variables

Plotting 3d surfaces
Dear Subscribers, I am using R for quite a while nowadays on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I a using R for doing my statistics. Furthermore I am using it as a tool to generate the graphics for my publications. I am currently working on a project which involves nls-fits of three dimensional surfaces such as ellipsoids or even more complex. I have been searching R help and the manuals for a possibility to

Q: Is it possible?
> You will hit two problems though. The first is that you will need to have > a stream for remote participants to listen to. Yeah, that's right. If you want the remote speakers to be able to listen to the other speakers this becomes a little complicated. If you hear your own voice with a latency more than 1/10 or 1/5 second it becomes very distracting! This latency really is a problem.

Deleted / read mails show up as new on remote imap clients
Hi, I've one problem: Mails, which I already read or deleted via my IMAP client (Thunderbird) on the same machine running the server (it runs behind DynDNS on my local machine, thanks to http://mein.homelinux.com/wiki/mailserver/) show up again if I connect via IMAP from other client computers, i.e. my notebook (Thunderbird again). As you can see from the config below I have

caching objects
Hi, i just wanted to say my sorries in advance (sorrie/sorry/sorri)...i have just started learning about the subject of caching, but unfortunately haven''t effictively managed to implement what i had learned. obviously it''s possible to cache a whole page, or action with the caches_page :x or caches_action :y methods, but for some reason it hasn''t really worked with

Simplest OS possible?
What is the simplest OS I can install in Xen, preferably Linux based, and don''t tell me MS-DOS :). I have installed a minimal version of Fedora, but I want something that is even less cluttered. I have looked at Minix, but it is not fully supported. I need something small, lightweight (doesn''t have to be multi-threaded or anything), that will run small C and Assembler programs

[Q] Get formal arguments of my implemented S4 method
Interrogating some (of my own) code in another package. >norm.meth <- getMethod("normalize", "MatrixLike") >message("str(norm.meth)") >str(norm.meth) >message("show(norm.meth at .Data)") >show(norm.meth at .Data) Last show() displays this: function (object, ...) { .local <- function (object, method = c("median",

[Q] Get formal arguments of my implemented S4 method
I'm attempting to reflect the information for use with corresponding fields in GUI (in a different package), to provide default values, argname as key for UI label lookups, etc. So I want something much more like the formals of the implementation: { "object", "method": c("median", "vs", "tukey"),

patch for kernel exploit?
Hi, As most of you probably already know, a local root exploit was released yesterday which affects kernels from 2.6.17 to 2.6.24.1. Is there an official patch for dom0 and domU kernels, or can the backport of the official kernel patch be used on these kernels? Bootstrapping Confidence Intervals for Medians
I apologize for this post. I am new to R (two days) and I have tried and tried to calculated confidence intervals for medians. Can someone help me? Here is my data: institution1 0.21 0.16 0.32 0.69 1.15 0.9 0.87 0.87 0.73 The first four observations compose group 1 and observations 5 through 9 compose group 2. I would like to create a bootstrapped 90% confidence interval on the difference of

Is there an equivalent of "echo"
Sorry I'm having one of those moments where I can't find the answer but I bet its obvious... I'm outputting my results to a file using sink() Is there a command simillar to php's echo command that would allow me to add some text to that file ie: dataFr$a = 1:10 dataFr$b = 2*1:10 sink ("filepath/filename.txt", split=T) #Show number of entries in vector a table

fast cumulative matrix multiplication
Hi all, I am looking for a function like cumprod() that works for matrix multiplication. In other words, I have matrices [M1, M2, ..., Mn], and I want to calculate [M1, M1%*%M2, M1%*%M2%*%M3, ..., M1%*%...%*%Mn] as quickly as possible. Right now I'm using a for() loop but it seems like there should be a faster way. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Todd Schneider todd.w.schneider@gmail.com

Vectorization
Greetings, Can anyone suggest me if we can vectorize the following problem effectively? I have two datasets, one dataset is portfolio of stocks returns on a historical basis and another dataset consist of a bunch of factors (again on a historical basis). I intend to compute a rolling n-day sensitivitiesfor each stock for each factor, so the output will be a data frame with
