add text to a plot, create character labels
Hi,
I was trying to run the following, where the labels on the x axis are dates
and need to be converted to characters. It did not work. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

adding custom axis to image.plot() and strange clipping behavior
Hi list,
I wanted to plot an image with a colorbar to the right of the plot, but set my own axis labels (text rather than numbers) to the image. I have previously accomplished this with two calls to image(), but the package 'fields' has a wrapper function, image.plot(), which does this task conveniently.
However, I could not add axes to the original image after a call to image.plot(); I

y axix number into horizontal direction
Dear R users,
I used plot() and mtext() functions to draw a plot. The numbers: 0,20,35,
40,60,80,100 were in the vertical direction. I'd like to transfer them into
the horizontal direction.
plot(0,0,xaxt="n",type="n", ylim=c(0,100))
mtext("35",side=2,at=35)
Any suggestion?
Thanks.

Plot ticks and tick labels: thickness, colour?
I am displaying several series in one plot, and would like to make
them distinct without having to employ a legend.
I managed to color tickmarks, but have been unsuccessful with either one of
a) making tickmarks thicker (without increasing the axis at the same time).
From reading ?axis:
lty, lwd: line type, width for the axis line and the tick marks.
in would appear that I cannot

Automatically updating GLM object

i generated several GLM objects, named myobject1 to myobject25.
Now i'd like to update both of them.

Doesn't work
I also tried to get all the names in a vector and

How do I show real values on a log10 histogram
Hi,
I have a histogram with values logged to the base 10
hist(log10(x),breaks=60)
How do I show the log values on the x-axis and a second x-axis showing the
real values?
Thanks

Lexical Scoping: eval(expr,envir=)
Hi R-listers,
I am trying to better undertand what we would call "functional paradigm"
use of S/R to better map my programming activities in other languages.
This little function is aimed to create an object (at the end end, it would
have it's own class):

myObject =function(){
list(

foo=function(b)

Change margin size of complex barplot
Dear R-help members,
with the help of one of you the following R-Code was developed. No I have the (probably simple) problem that I want to increase font size of "text" and "ylab" names from 1 to 2. Unfortunately I'm not able to adjust the margin so, that the plot is appers complete (all names readable) on a 8:14 Inch scale plot.
Some times I get the error message that

ylim in barplot()
Dear useRs,
I'm having troubles with using ylim in barplot(): even though I reduce
the y-scale using ylim, the bars still extend down to 0into the x-labels.
The sample data is below, and here is the code.
#This works fine but I would like to plot only from 50 to 70:
barplot(t(mydata), beside=TRUE, col=c("orange", "green", "yellow",
"purple"),

is there a way to avoid "traveling" grid?
Hello!
If you run the whole code below, it'll produce a stacked diagram. And
it looks good - because the tick-marks are aligned with the grid.
However, if I stretch the graph window, grid becomes misaligned with
the tickmarks. Or, rather, it seems aligned for the first and the last
tick mark, but not for tickmarks in between.
Can it be addressed?
Thank you!

jpeg and margin text
Hi guys,
I use R 2.6.2 and Windows XP.
I’ve got the following question: I wrote a lot of text into the margin of a
plot. When I use the “jpeg”-function, only a little part of the margin text
is displayed in the final jpeg? Any ideas to change it?

ylim in barplot()
If you are using a Windows system, you can Export the plot from RStudio and save it as a metafile without using package devEMF and it will crop the bars with xpd=FALSE. When I used devEMF on a Windows machine, the bars were not cropped with barplot() as you indicated, but when I switched to plotrix::barp() they were cropped. The arguments are a bit different, but I did not need xpd=FALSE:

ylim in barplot()
Thank you David,
That's a nice workaround using plotrix::barp(), but that doesn't explain
why ylim doesn't work as intended (or at least, as I expect it to work),
or why xpd has no influence when using devEMF::emf()...
The problem with saving directly in RStudio is that it requires to
manually save the plot, and this becomes troublesome when there are a
lot of plot commands in a

barplot question
Dear r-help members.
I would like to:
a) control the margin around my legend box. Unfortunately I did not find an appropriate command under "?legend". The margin around the actual legend is way too wide. There is a lot of unnecessary "empty space" on the right side.
b) increase the width of the individual barplots. I saw that this can be obtained with the command

Aligning Diagonally Oriented Labels Under Bar Chart
I searched the forms (i.e., R Search)?and come up with the following suggested link:
I tried to implement what I believe was being implied by that URL and came up with the below:

??????? axes=FALSE, ann=FALSE,

ylim problem in barplot
R Version 2.2.0
Platform: Windows
When I use barplot but select a ylim value greater than zero, the graph
is distorted. The bars extend below the bottom of the graph.
For instance the command produces a problematic graph.
barplot(c(200,300,250,350),ylim=c(150,400))
Any help would be appreciated.

barplot and ylim - display problems
The following single line of code shows what I am trying to do, and the
problem I am having...
barplot(c(101,102,103),ylim=c(100,103))
The 'xaxis' is missing, and the grey bars 'fall off' the plot area. This
is generally ugly, and I would like to trim the bars (ideally they would
have a ragged appearance to show that I am 'zooming in').
I can see why what I am trying to

help with plot layout
It takes a lot of sweat to generate a composite plot with R ... sigh.
I though I was almost done when I met the umpteenth hurdle. I cannot place a nice title on the 2nd plot (raw signal)
on the layout. I do not have control on where either the "main" option of "plot" function, or "title", place the text
string which keeps dysplaying chopped from above. I also tried
