Horizontal stripplot
I have a plot similar to the following library(lattice) stripplot(1:15, rep(1:3, each=5)) In order to save space for a presentation, I would like to have horizontal strips instead of vertical. The argument 'horiz' turns the arguments around, but not the plot. The documentation for 'stripplot' ('xyplot'), 'panel.stripplot' and the FAQ do not seem to provide

Dovecot crashes on certain spam messages
Dovecot crashes. I think it's because of some message in my spam folder. It has happened once before, and that time I solved it by deleting that folder. It happens when I start gnus ("Checking messages in folder spam" or something like that), which makes gnus just stop, or when I try to enter that folder in mutt. Converting a whole dataframe (including attributes) from latin1 to UTF-8
Hi list! Short version: How do I convert a whole data.frame from latin1 encoding to utf8? I get SPSS files with latin1 encoding. My OS is GNU/Linux and the locale sv_SE.utf8, and I normally interface R with Emacs/ESS. I have used the following hack to convert a data.frame in latin1 to utf8: > Sys.setlocale(category = "LC_ALL", locale = "sv_SE.iso88591") > foo <-

Italicized greek symbols in PDF plots
I know that this has been asked before in other variations but I just can't seem to figure out my particular application from previous posts. My apologies if I have missed the answer to this question somewhere in the archives. I have indeed looked. I am running Ubuntu 11.04, with R 2.12.1 and ESS+Emacs. For journal formatting requirements, I need to italicize all the greek letters in any

clustered standarderrors using design package
Please help, I have a strange problem. I've got a balanced panel data set. I use dummy variable regression and I've got results with lm function. summary(lm(y ~ post + t19961 + t19962 + t19963 + t19964 + t19971 + t19972 + t19973 + t19974 + t19981+factor( id))) The problem is that I would like to get my standard errors clustered but then gets the following error message: f<-(lm(y ~

singular.ok in lm
Dear R users, I'm wondering about the singular.ok option in lm. If singular.ok is set to TRUE does it mean that we allow the generalized inverse of (X'X)^-1 (where X are the independent variables and ' denotes the transpose)? Or is the singularity handled in some other way? Thank you! Best regards, Martin. ======================================== Martin Eklund PhD Student

2.2.8pre1 smbclient log in problem
Hi all samba coders. Glad to see that you work to improve samba. Here is a problem I would be very greatful if you could solve. Certain international characters does not work as usernames when trying to log in to an NT4 file server. My problem is that in Swedish versions of NT the "Administrator" username is translated and reads "Administrat?r". It seams that the

Color schemes that work for people with color-deficient vision
A recent article in the earth science literature cited below and available at http://geography.uoregon.edu/datagraphics/EOS/ points out that rainbow color schemes and mixtures of green and yellow can be troublesome for people with color-deficient vision. The authors propose alternative schemes that can be viewed and downloaded in RGB, HSV, CMYK, and RGB256 formats from

Italicize Greek symbols in axis
Hello there, Is there any way to italicize Greek symbols such as mu in axis? From the help files of mathematical anotations: "Note that bold, italic and bolditalic do not apply to symbols, and hence not to the Greek symbols such as mu which are displayed in the symbol font. They also do not apply to numeric constants.", it seems that it cannot be done. Thanks, Bingzhang Chen

How to create a table structure in Java code?
That's amazing! Thank you!!! One follow up question, if that's OK? If, instead of using hard-coded CSV, I read the CSV into a variable first, then it fails again with a parse error. Code below. So, if I read the CSV into a variable, do I need an additional wrapper method? Seems like it should still work. Thanks in advance for your reply. -M String inputIris =

Bug#569843: logcheck-database: acpid filter misses trailing white space
Package: logcheck-database Version: 1.2.69 Severity: normal Tags: patch The syslog messages for acpid when a window client connects or disconnect all have a trailing single space at each line. Therefore the existing two patterns in /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/acpid fail to filter out the events. Furthermore, the disconnect message includes a PID-numbered client, which is not present in the

Italicized title from index
Hi all! I've written a handy script that uses a for loop to allow me to generate a large number of figures and statistical outputs for a large dataset. I am using indexing to retrieve a species name for the title of my graphs- which worked fine. However, I need to italicize these species names. I originally used the paste function, and had no problems with indexing: *main=paste("Yield
