Scaffolding Specs
I just wrote a really simple tool that cranks out spec scaffolds for
Rails apps. It''s new and pretty simple, but you might find it useful:

rspec_todo -- spec''ing backwards
While the spirit of BDD is to spec first and code second, many of us
have legacy code. Worse, some of us have legacy code without very
good coverage. Recognizing that *I* have such code, I created a
script that grinds through your .rb files and creates placeholder
specs for each public method.
While it is more sensible to spec behavior of code function than of
individual methods, this

Manipulating form inputs?
I have created a scaffold Admin/Radicals for doing CRUD. However, I''m
not sure exactly where the scaffold uses the save() method. For a new
entry, it creates form "radical" referencing method create(). The code
for create() is as follows:
def create
@radical = Radical.new(params[:radical])
if @radical.save
flash[:notice] = ''Radical was

mocking errors
What is the correct way to mock out the errors on a Rails model?
I''m assuming i need to say
@mock_thing = mock_model(Thing)
@mock_thing_errors = mock("errors")
@mock_thing_errors.should_receive(:full_messages).and_return("An error")
@mock_thing.should_receive(:errors).and_return(@mock_thing_errors)
Just wanted to check the best practice on this kind of thing and how

Keeping Up with Trunk
I have a project with rspec installed as a plugin using
svn:externals. Here are my externals:
rspec_on_rails svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/trunk/
rspec_on_rails
rspec svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/trunk/
rspec
I just did an svn up on both and now have a version mismatch:

How do I get substring of utf-8 string?
I''m trying to get substring from a utf-8 encoded string. (say, first
50 characters of the string) String#[0..49] would give me the first
50 bytes not 50 characters..
I know there is jcode library, but it only let you count number of
characters in utf-8 string.
unicode gem doesn''t seem to help much. unicode_hacks gem seem to
solve the problem, but it also seems to

Bug? Filter chain halted as [#<ActionController::Filters::..
OK so I''ve been trying to follow the tutorial here:
http://rails.homelinux.org/
When I simply do "scaffold: category" in the controller.rb, everything
works fine. BUT after I generate the controllers and other files using
scaffold AS A SCRIPT (script/generate scaffold categories), DESTROY (or
DELETE) does not work for any record in a table. This is the error I
got:

authentication, controller specs. I think I''m missing something simple ....
Hi all,
I feel like I''m missing something really easy and I''m just not seeing
it.
I''m using the restful_authentication plugin and have a User model. Uesr
has_many :things and Thing belongs_to :user.
That''s it.
I did a "script/generate rspec_scaffold thing" to generate all the
necessary bits. The "rake db:migrate" to create the db.

Using mocks
I''ve just started doing TDD/BDD and like the idea of mocks. So I set
out to use them. The doc pages seem great, I setup the mock and then
it just works. Here is what I am trying to do:
Myuser is a non-rails model of user attributes. We are going to be
mocking the connection to the ldap server. The user class has a login
method that connects to the ldap server and if successful,

out-format in one line
Hello,
I use rsync with the option --out-format '%o %n? but want to have the contents of the mesages to be overwritten. This means that the actual message while synchronisation shall overwritte the previous one. Therefore i wanted to add a carriage return ?\r? at the end of the ?out-format string but this did not work. How can I do this?

scriptaculous-js-1.5.0
I''m not a JavaScript guy, so please help me out.
It''s my understanding that Rails 1.0 includes scriptaculous-js-1.5.0
But it seems to contain portions of, but not the complete library.
Rails 1.0 includes 4 .js files, scriptaculous-js-1.5.0 includes 8.
What am I missing?

Praking lot issues.
Ok I now have the basics for dynamic parking working but for some reason
when a caller calls in and is parked with a transfer the return call dials
the sip peer of the caller and not hte peer of the last party that parked
the call. Anyone have any ideas on this? Also when a call is transfered to
a parking space. the caller hears the space number. How can I stop that as
well?
Thanks

Accessing login name from login_generator
I''m new to Rails and am modifying the ToDo tutorial app into something
else. I have successfully installed authentication via login_generator
and now I working toward restricting access to certain database records
based on the login name. I realize that eventually, I''ll want to use
the "id" field, but for now, I just want to use the user name itself.

Way to mark record as main?
I was curious if there was a built in feature in ActiveRecord or a
plugin, but I basically have a database for phone numbers. I want a user
to be able to make a phone number as main. There can only be one phone
number marked as main at all times. Is there something for this?
Thanks for your help.
