Conditional logistic regression and small sample sizes: what to do?
Dear R-Gurus,

Markov chain transition model, data replication project
Hello all,
I am currently attempting to replicate data from a political science article
that utilized a Markov chain transition model to predict voter turnout
intention at time *t*; the data was separated into two different models
based on whether prior intent was to vote or not to vote. The details don't
really matter.
Mostly I am curious how to run a Markov chain transition model in R,

Cross-compiling packages for (ARM) Zaurus ideas and tips?
Hello All,
A bit of a long one (background mainly), this is really just a request
for some ideas.
I ported R 1.7.x for use on the Sharp Zaurus (& iPAQ, simpad, yopy,
etc.) some time ago and have just ported 1.8.1 but had never quite
realised that you actually need to install some packages to make the
system useful (I don't use R, I did it as a favour and of course for the
fun of it).

exact logistic regression
Hello to R people
Does anybody know to calculate exact logistic regression in R?
Does such option exist anywhere?
Surprisingly, could not find it using search engine. It is hard to
believe, however, that such useful function is not implemented in R yet?
Could you help, please
Thank you

replacement for IMAP_EMPTYTRASH=Trash:7
While running dovecot on debian etch using version 1.0.rc15-2etch3, i wonder
the following:
If i read the config files correctly, dovecot seems to have no equivalent of
courier's IMAP_EMPTYTRASH=Trash:7 setting.
Therefore, i wrote a script that dives into the user's directories and their
maildirs. It looks like this:

#!/bin/bash

Overlay of barchart and xyplot
Hello R Folks,
I am new to R. I have been struggling to overlay a barchart with a
xyplot together on one plot but did not get this worked out. Any help
and idea are greatly appreciated.
I attached R scripts for barchart and xyplot below and also data I used.
What I am trying to do is just to put the barchart and xyplot together
on one plot.

[lattice] Increase distance between tick labels and ticks in wireframe plot ("pad")
Hello,
I try to increase the distance between tick labels and ticks in a lattice wireframe plot. Here's a minimal example:
## Minimal example
x <- y <- z <- c(1,2,3)
df <- data.frame(x, y, z)
wireframe(z ~ x*y, df, scales = list(arrows = FALSE, col = "black", font = 1, tck=0.6))
I tried the axis.components option

Relationships between png resolution, axis.text$cex trellis setting, and paddings
Dear R-users,
I was wondering if somebody could shed some light on the relationships
existing between the resolution of a png device, the axis.text$cex trellis
setting, and the paddings of the actual graph. In the following code, I
create a custom trellis theme that set (among other thing) axis.text$cex to
1 instead of the default 0.8. Then a lattice graph is created and exported
to three png

lattice: axis ticks, axis alignment and remove axis from plot
Hi there,
I'm a bit confused concerning the axis tck setting in the lattice
package as the ticks on left sided axis aren't
drawn at all with the following setting:
dados <- data.frame(varsep = factor(rep(1:2,10)),
i = runif(20))
library(lattice)
my.theme <- list(
axis.components = list(left = list(tck = 1, pad1 = 1, pad2 =
2), top = list(tck = 0, pad1

Understanding padding in lattice
Dear R-users,
I am trying to understand what the different padding arguments in
trellis.par.set are exactly controlling the space around lattice plots.
I have used the following code as a basis for testing but it did not
really help me to visualize how the value of each argument changes the
margins and the plotting area. I guess a better way to visualize the
effects of these padding items

Samba can't find file, NT can
We're having a problem with an application called Grade Machine
running on Windows 98 workstations. The problem occurs when
trying to save when overwriting the currently open class file.
It works on NT 3.51, it works on the local drive, it works
on Samba when short directory names are used, it doesn't
work under Samba 2.0.10 or 2.2.2 when saving to a file in
a folder such as "My

trellis margin sizes in absolute units
Dear R users,
I have a lot of experience with traditional R graphics, but I decided to turn to trellis as
it was recommended for spatial graphs by the sp package. In traditional R graphics
I always first set the size of the device region absolute units (e.g. mm) and then I
firmly fix the inner margins with mai and the outer margins with oma also in absolute units.
What is left from the device

[LLVMdev] Looking for advice on how to debug a problem with C++ style exception handling code that my compiler generates.
Hi Christian,
> I don’t see anything in the Itanium ABI that says I need to call the
function that throws an exception with “invoke” to get exception handling
to work!
AFAICT, it is the design of LLVM IR and its implementation. To catch the
exceptions thrown by the callee functions, we should use the invoke
instruction along with the landingpad instruction. If you are calling a

lguest virtio_descriptor structure on 64bit
Hello Rusty,
while playing with your virtio descriptor code, I realized that the desc_pages
data structure is not 64 bit safe. struct lguest_desc desc[NUM_DESCS] can be
smaller than a page, as struct lguest_desc is 24 bytes on 64bit systems. Lets
add a char padding to make the next page really page aligned.
Btw. the new_io_desc.patch does not apply on current git. What base should I
use?

[LLVMdev] Looking for advice on how to debug a problem with C++ style exception handling code that my compiler generates.
Hi Christian,
Thanks for your explanation. I know your situation now. I would suggest
you to check the optimization pass used by the JIT compiler, especially
IPO/PruneEH.cpp. It will try to add nounwind attribute to functions which
will result in the problem you have mentioned earlier.
Alternatively, as a workaround, try to add uwtable (function attribute) to
the functions that are generated

setting effect plot parameters
I have tried to set parameters of an effects plot with moderate success, but I'm finding that although the plot(effect()) method uses trellis graphics (via the lattice package), not all aspects of the plot can be controlled by standard trellis graphics.
I am able to set any parameters that are given in trellis.par.get() easily enough, for example:

Structure Padding and GetElementPtr
Here is an example:
I can define two classes: A and Apad:
class A {
bool b1, b2;
double d1;
int i1;
};
class Apad {
bool b1, b2;
bool pad1[6];
double d1;
int i1;
bool pad2[4];
};
A and Apad will have the same layout, from the LLVM IR level:
%class.A = type <{ i8, i8, [6 x i8], double, i32, [4 x i8] }>
%class.Apad = type { i8, i8, [6 x i8], double, i32, [4
