ferret-0.11.4-mswin32 not compatible with Ruby1.8.4

work on Ruby 1.8.4.

Possible Bug when Creating Indexes
I''m running:

ruby 1.8.5 (2006-08-25) [i386-mswin32]

When I create an index as follows:

field_infos.add_field(:id, :index => :untokenized)
field_infos.add_field(:subject)

How to proceed with incorporating Ferret?
Hi,
I''ve listened in to this mail list for quite a while now but not
doing anything with Ferret until I was ready to incorporate it. I''ve
used Lucene for years, but not Ferret.
I downloaded and installed the ''bleeding edge'' version (lets call it
0.10.9.1). There appears to be a significant re-working of the API
happening. It all looks good. But there

Sorting performance
I''m using acts_as_ferret to index one of my rails models. Right after I
start the app the first request that orders by some ferret field will
take very long. Subsequent ones seem to be fast. I guess some caching is
going on. Any tips on solving this?
Pedro.

Update/Create record only if field is true
I have a sellable flag in my database. I''m trying to have ferret only
add/update records where sellable == true. What is the best way to do
this? I''ve tried editing instance_methods.rb in the AAF, but I still
can''t get it to work.
Thanks for the help

Ferret 0.10 and Fields
Hey ...
I just tried to convert my code to 0.10 .. But i''m currently not sure
how to use fields..
i really like some of the new api.. its leaner and i like the fact that
these strange consts are gone (like
Ferret::Search::BooleanClause::Occur::MUST) ..
I see that you''re now having Ferret::Index::FieldInfo to describe the
fields of the index.. thats good.. and i now see that

Advise on slowness in bootstrapping?
I am looking at trying to use ferret/aaf to supplement my querying against a
medium and large table with lots of columns. Some facts first:
Ferret 0.11.4
AAF 0.4.0
Ruby 1.8.6
Rails 1.2.3
Medium table:
105,464 rows
168 columns (mostly varchar(20))
11 actual columns indexed in aaf plus
40 virtual columns indexed in aaf (virtual is concat of two physical columns.
e.g. cast_first_name_1 +

Sorting/Ordering Search Results
Hello All,
I am having an issue with AAF and sorting results of a search. Right
now, I have results being split onto pages of 10. The results are being
sorted alphabetically, but not across multiple pages - it''s just sorting
the 10 it pulls down on each page. I noticed another post from April
regarding this same issue (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/62993#66934)
where the issue was

Hyphens
Hi there,
I''m working with some legacy data where customer phone numbers are
stored with hyphens between the area code, exchange, and number (e.g.
555-555-5555). Is this the best way to store a phone number? Perhaps
not, but it''s the way they were being stored, so I have to work with
this format.
Right, so when I save a record the log tells me acts_as_ferret indexed

crash on repeated search
I have found another crash in ferret; this one just uses a regular
search. It''s similar to an issue reported by Matt Schnitz a while ago,
but unlike his, mine does not go away if I turn off omit_norms. It does
go away if I turn on the garbage collector more often, but I''m not sure
that''s a stable workaround under the circumstances.
This one isn''t a

index browser inconsistent with IndexReader
Hi,
We have an index of around 1M web pages as part of our web app. The
app uses ferret by way of RDig to perform searches. We have noticed
anecdotally that some searches don''t work the way we thought they
should, as if documents were missing from the index. Yesterday we
came upon a concrete instance of this.
Our documents have several fields, one of which is called :keywords

can''t search for OR (as in the state)
I''m trying to search a Model by the state field using Acts As Ferret.
The query for this is ''+state:NY'' (substitute state abbreviation for
NY). This works find however ''+state:OR'' returns nothing, though just
''portland'' will pull up matches within that state.
I''m pretty sure it''s reading OR as an or conditional

disabling automatic indexing in acts_as_ferret
I''d like to be able to enable/disable the automatic indexing of
documents acts_as_ferret does. Something like MyModel.disable_indexing
MyModel.enable_indexing would be perfect. I need this because I do some
indexing that requires visiting the parents of the model objects and my
import method imports the children first, so the information isn''t there
yet. I''d like to

Query scoring - WTF?
Hi!
I thought I understood Ferret''s query scoring and how to tweak
results using boost values. What I currently experience however,
leaves me completely baffled.
Perhaps someone can shed some light on the scoring algorithm, because
asking Ferret to "explain" the score for a particular document isn''t
as informative as I thought. Actually, it confuses me even

I tried to exclude certain objects from my search, by adding appropriate
term queries ..

seg faults and problems with new version
Hi all,
first off, it''s 2AM and I''m not thinking properly, so please
forgive me if this one''s easy, but I just need to get this going.
First problem, using 0.9.6 on all of our development machines,
works great, then we move it to a server running x86_64 linux and it
segfaults as soon as it tries to create an Index. I''ve tried
