non-negative least-squares
Hi all, I am trying to do an inversion of electromagnetic data with non-negative least squares method (Tikhonov regularisation) and have got it programmed in S-Plus. However I am trying to move all my scripts from S-Plus to R. Is there an equivalent to nnls.fit in R? I think this can be done with pcls? Right? S-Plus script: A, L and data are matrices, lambda is a vector of possible lambda

Behaviour of very large numbers
Dear all, I am struggling to understand this. What happens when you raise a negative value to a power and the result is a very large number? B [1] 47.73092 > -51^B [1] -3.190824e+81 # seems fine # now this: > x <- seq(-51,-49,length=100) > x^B [1] NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN NaN <snip> > is.numeric(x^B) [1] TRUE > is.real(x^B) [1]

Histogram in Lattice with 3 factors
Dear R-help list, I am trying to construct a lattice histogram using 3 factors. My dataframe looks like this: (simulating a waterbalance over groundwater with different salinities) s days model EC EC_max 0.4 1 "A" 10 9 0.42 2 "A" 10 9 0.44 3 "A" 10 9 : : : :

how to use "replace" for efficiency
Hi I think I have been struggling to use replace correctly, I usually work my way around this using a loop, but I think this is in fact inefficient. I have a dataset with runoff from three plots and associated rainfall. However either the datarecording was sloppy, or the rainfall very patchy. So I am trying to remove data from my dataset for which the runoff is larger than the rainfall on the

Programming Tools CTV
Hi all, Sorry if this doesn't end up in the thread. Tobias Verbeke forwarded that e-mail to me, because he thought I would be interested in maintaining the Programming Tools CTV. I wasn't subscribed to R-devel yet, but I would indeed like to volunteer to maintain the Programming Tools CTV. It will be my first time creating a CTV, so some guidance on getting it setup will be appreciated.

[PATCH net-next] virtio-net: on tx, only call napi_disable if tx napi is on
From: Willem de Bruijn <willemb at google.com> As of tx napi, device down (`ip link set dev $dev down`) hangs unless tx napi is enabled. Else napi_enable is not called, so napi_disable will spin on test_and_set_bit NAPI_STATE_SCHED. Only call napi_disable if tx napi is enabled. Fixes: 5a719c2552ca ("virtio-net: transmit napi") Reported-by: Jason Wang <jasowang at

[PATCH net-next] vhost_net: do not stall on zerocopy depletion
From: Willem de Bruijn <willemb at google.com> Vhost-net has a hard limit on the number of zerocopy skbs in flight. When reached, transmission stalls. Stalls cause latency, as well as head-of-line blocking of other flows that do not use zerocopy. Instead of stalling, revert to copy-based transmission. Tested by sending two udp flows from guest to host, one with payload of

plot only x- and y-axis with origin, no box()
hi all, I'm trying for quite some time to have an x- and y-axis, but no entire box. >plot(..,axes=F) >axis(1) >axis(2) Gives this, but their axes do not go to the origin. Quite a number of people find this gap between the two axes disturbing. Has anyone an idea how to let these axes go to the origin? thank you in advance [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
