Merge question
Hi: I am a new R user. I have the following question and would appreciate your input Data1 (data frame 1) p1,d1,d2 (p1 is text and d1 and d2 are numeric) xyz,10,25 Data2 (data frame 2) p1,d1,d2 xyz,11,15 Now I want to create a new data frame that looks like so below. The fields d1 and s2 are summed by the product key. Data3 p1,d1,d2 xyz,21 (sum of 10 from Data1 and 11 from Data2),40 (sum of 25

Assigning variable names from one object to another object
Hello I have 2 datasets say Data1 and Data2 both are of different dimesions. Data1: 120 rows and 6 columns (Varname, Vartype, Labels, Description, ....) The column Varname has 120 rows which has variable names such id, age, gender,.....so on Data2: 12528 rows and 120 columns The column names in this case are V1, V2, ......... V120 (which are default names in R when we say head=F in read.csv)

balanced panel data
I have a dataframe with many firm-year observations and many variables. Not all firms have information for all the years. I want another dataframe with only those firms that have information all years. This is, I want a balanced panel data, but with the maximum number of years. In my reprocucible example I want to keep firms 1,2 and 3 (period 2000 to 2004). I need your help to create a

alternative to rbind for data.table
Hi I want to add a row to a "data.table" in each round of a for loop. "rbind" seems to be a inefficient way to implement this. How would you do this? The "slow" solution: library(data.table) Rprof("test.out") dt <- data.table() for (i in (1:10000)) { # algorithm that generates a list with different values, # but same key-names, each round, for

Running *slow*
Anyone got any hints on how to make this code more efficient? An early version (which to be fair did more than this one is) ran for 330 hours and produced no output. I have a two column table, Dat, with 12,000,000 rows and I want to produce a lookup table, ltable, in a 1 dimensional matrix with one copy of each of the values in Dat: for (i in 1:nrow(Dat)) { for (j in 1:2) { #If next

linear model coefficients by year and industry, fitted values, residuals, panel data
Hi R-helpers, My real data is a panel (unbalanced and with gaps in years) of thousands of firms, by year and industry, and with financial information (variables X, Y, Z, for example), the number of firms by year and industry is not always equal, the number of years by industry is not always equal. #reproducible example firm1<-sort(rep(1:10,5),decreasing=F) year1<-rep(2000:2004,10)

couting events by subject with "black out" windows
I large datset that includes subjects(ID), Dates and events that need to be counted.  Not every date includes an event, and I need to only count one event per 30days, per subject.  So in essence, I need to create a 30-day "black out" period during which time an event cannot be "counted" for each subject.  The reason is that a rule has been set up, whereby a subject can only be

complexity of operations in R
Hello! I am optimizing my code in R and for this I need to know a bit more about the internals. It would help tremendously if someone could link me to a page with O()-complexities of all the operations. In this particular case, I need something like a linked list with O(1) insertLast/First ability. I can't preallocate a vector since I do not know the final size of the list ahead of time. The
