simpleR or usingR package by Verzani
I am a new R user and so I thought I could start with "Using R for
Introductory statistics" by Verzani.
In order to use some of the functions and datasets I have to install the
simpleR package which is is now inside the UsingR package. I did so
using
>install.packages("UsingR"). However, the functions such as
"simple.freqpoly.R" do not work.

A simple simulation question
Hi!
I would like to post the following question:
I was trying to figure out how to do the simulation shown in Fig 10.6 of
John Verzani's book 'Using R for Intro Statistics'. It is on page 290, with
a description on the previous page. It seems like a simple thing... Just
needing to duplicate a procedure. (Perhaps I need to do it with a loop?)
This is what I was trying:

SimpleR and UsingR
Having found the online version of SimpleR, I wanted to to download the
respective data:
"The data sets for these notes are available from the CSI math
department (http://www.math.csi.cuny.edu/Statistics/R/simpleR)
and must be installed prior to this."
There it says:
"The simpleR package is now inside the UsingR package available from
CRAN. In the Windows GUI, this may be

R book advice
I'm looking for a book for someone completely ignorant of statistics
who wishes to learn both statistics and R. I've found three
possibilities, one by Verzani ("Using R for Introductory Statistics"),
one by Crawley ("Statistics: An Introduction using R"), and one by
Dalgaard ("Introductory Statistics with R"). Do these books have
different emphases,

How do you expand memory capability (Was: R crashes in Windows ME)
Hello-
Since my data bank in SPSS has > 40 variables, I think that R crashes because of the memory limit.
In Maindonald?s UsingR text, on pg 3, there?s a footnote that reads:
"If you want larger memory space than the default you may want a target akin to
<path to binary>\rw091\bin\rgui.exe --visize 30M --nsize 1000K
[The default is --vsize 6M --nsize 250K

Missing folders inside huge folders catalog.
Hi,
I get into the problem with samba ( Version 4.8.3-Debian ). Don't know how to troubleshoot it.
The test scenario #1:
Creating 5000 folders inside Linux server: #for i in {001..5000}; do mkdir $i; done;
All catalogs are showing in Windows OS.
All catalogs are showing in Linux OS.
The test scenario #2:

Zoom on simple.violinplot
Hello,
I am using the function simple.violinplot from the package UsingR.
I have some outliers in my dataset so that the distribution has very long
tails.
As a result, the y-axis of the output of simple.violinplot extends to very
large values. I would like to zoom on the y-axis with a command such as
ylim=c(a,b), as in boxplot(x,ylim=c(a,b)). However, doing
simple.violinplot(x,ylim=c(a,b)) does

FYI conflict between statnet, igraph
Dear R users:
There appears to be a conflict between the statnet package and the
igraph package.
With igraph loaded into memory, the network() function of statnet
failed, returning the error to the effect that the matrix being
converted was "not a graph object." Removing igraph from memory restored
statnet to proper function.
Apologies if this is redundant. I could not find this

[kdo@cosmos.phy.tufts.edu: protocol incompatibility between OpenSSH and SSH secure shell?]
Hello all!
I didn't see anyone else reply to this, but I also didn't see
anything show up on the OpenSSH development list (Cc'ed here). There
is a patch call out right now for the pending release of 2.4.0. I'm
wondering if anyone is aware of this and if it's already been covered
in 2.4.0?
Please reply to list and original poster...
