PDF::Writer Simpletable Iteration
Hello All:
I have been working with <a
href="http://ruby-pdf.rubyforge.org/pdf-writer/index.html">Austin
Ziegler''s PDF::Writer</a> as a means to produce PDF documents from my
Rails app. I am stumped on how to iterate through a collection of items
and output them in a table format. The way I have tried it so far only
returns the last item in the collection -

RpgSQL row names
Hello,
Using the RpgSQL package, there must be a way to get the row names into the
table automatically. In the example below, I'm trying to get rid of the
cbind line, yet have the row names of the data frame populate a column.
> bentest = matrix(1:4,2,2)
> dimnames(bentest) = list(c('ra','rb'),c('ca','cb'))
> bentest
ca cb

fitting periodic 'sine wave' model
I have been attempting to estimate the periodic contribution of an
effect to some data but have not been able to fit a sine wave within R.
It would be nice to start by being able to fit a sine wave with an
amplitude and frequency.
x<-seq(0,20,by=0.5)
y<-2*sin(2*pi*.5*x) #amplitude =2, frequency=0.5
# This failed to converge
r<-nls(y ~ A*sin(2*pi*F*x), start=list(A = 1, F = 1),

apply function across two variables by mult factors
Greetings,
I am attempting to run a function, which produces a vector and
requires two input variables, across two nested factor levels. I can
do this using by(X, list(factor1, factor2), function), however I
haven't found a simple way to extract the list output into an
organized vector form. I can do this using nested loops but it isn't
exactly an optimal approach.
Thank you

aov function syntax
Hello,
I have a simple question about using the aov function syntax (ie. * + or :)
for the interaction of 2 factors. I have read the help files, and researched
other sites, and have included my source files. My goal is to measure the
signifigance of the interaction between population and condition (aka.
population:condition). I can't seem to figure it out.
1. In the first example the

Multiple cbind according to filename
Hi all,
I'm just a beginner with R but I have not been able to search for any
relevant answer to my problem. I apologize if it has in fact been asked
before.
Recently I've realized that I need to combine hundreds of pairs of data
frames. The filenames of the frames I need to combine have unique strings.
This is my best guess as to the approach to take:
filenames<-list.files()

polygons on scatterplot3d
Does anyone have any experience plotting complex polygons on a
scatterplot3d display? I would like to present some spatially binned
data in a 3-d type plot with background polygons (i.e.. a filled
coastline map). I can get the coastline onto the plot window as a
line type but cannot figure out how to fill the shape. I'm certain it
may be possible but might require a bit of digging

using tapply with multiple variables
HI All,
I have a long data file generated from a minimal pair test that I gave to
learners of Arabic before and after a phonetic training regime. For each of
thirty some subjects there are 800 rows of data, from each of 400 items at
pre and posttest. For each item the subject got correct, there is a 'C' in
the column 'Correct'. The line:
tapply(ALLDATA$Correct,

multiple select_tag
Hello again,
I have a table called line_items, with the following fields:
id int
item_name varchar()
qty int
conditions text
I''ve made my LineItem model, and everything works as such (with simple
text_fields)..
Now I''d like for the conditions field to be a select_tag() with multiple
choice possibility.
I''m guessing I need some code to expand/restract the array for

How to tell R that "ABC" is the name of a dataset not a variable value
All,
For example, I have a dataset named "ABC" loaded into R
> ABC

[1,] 1 4 7
[2,] 2 5 8
[3,] 3 6 9
and I also have a variable datasetname
> datasetname
[1] "ABC"
and I want to add this "ABC" dataset to an existing list "alldata"

> alldata <- as.list(alldata)

active scaffold polymorphic model
Hi
I am trying to use active scaffold to build a polymorphic model .
I have a number of models that can be featured and I have a Feature model
that belongs_to :item, :polymorphic => true
In my config.columns I include :item_type and item_id, I also added
:item_name to show the name of the record in the form.
In the form, when a type of model is selected I populate the select box for

Sort across multiple csv
Dear R help list,
I am very new to R and I apologize in advance if this has been answered
before. I have done my best to google/R search what I need but no luck.
Here is what I am attempting:
I have hundreds of .csv files that I need to sort based on a single column
of alphanumeric data. All of the files contain matrices that have
identical dimensions and headers, however the data table

Subset a data frame for plotting
Hello,
I have a question regarding how to subset/select parts of a data
frame (matrix) in order to plot data associated only with this subset.
Specifically I have a large data frame in which one column contains ID
values (dates), and other columns contain data I would like to plot
(temperature, light, etc.). I would like to break up this large matrix
so as to plot data associated

Direct Method Age-Adjustment to Complex Survey Data
Hi everyone, my apologies in advance if I'm overlooking something simple in
this question. I am trying to use R's survey package to make a direct
method age-adjustment to some complex survey data. I have played with
postStratify, calibrate, rake, and simply multiplying the base weights by
the correct proportions - nothing seems to hit the published numbers on the
nose.
I am trying to

Conditionals for Errors or error flags
Greetings,
I have been working on a script that conducts repeated statistics and
plots to my data. In this case it is sub-setting the dataframe by
month.
The intent is to develop a custom analysis and plotting that I can run
on a large number of data sets.
Unfortunately, a small portion of my subsets (~1%) cause an error with
one of the wrapped subroutines that results in the whole

Inherit names ...
No doubt an easy answer to this exists.
I have a data frame which comprises 4 matrices and 2 vectors:
year(1024,6),growth(1024,6),ycens(1024,6),gcens(1024,6),yinit(1024),ginit(1024)
The names of the 26 columns get denoted as y.1 to y.6, g.1 to g.6, yc.1 to
yc.6, gc.1 to gc.6, yi and gi as these are the internal names.
I wish to make a subset of the data using the logical vector R1(length
1024)
