try() with silent=TRUE not preventing printing of error message
Hello, We're curious to know why, on builds lacking Tcl/Tk, try(library(tcltk),silent=TRUE) still allows the message to be printed: Error in firstlib(which.lib.loc, package) : Tcl/Tk support is not available on this system though it does succeed in trapping the error condition? Thanks, Ben

Blank console and no boot
Hi. I was cloning a domain and now I can't boot the original nor the clone domain. Currently when I start one of those domains I can see only a blank screen. I am not sure what went wrong cloning. I was trying to use kpart to mount the new image and change info in the filesystem like hostname, ip and so. Anyway when I start the new or old domain: # virsh start --console thedomain

Blank console but X11 works on MCP79 - old regression since 3.8
With a new kernel, mind grabbing a dmesg with drm.debug=0x1e nouveau.debug=debug (or maybe even =trace)? Maybe also see if fbcon/fbdev have any debug things that can be turned on? Sounds like things are generally working, just the fbcon -> nouveaufb path seems somehow buggered. Another thing to try would be nouveau.atomic=1 On Fri, Nov 17, 2017 at 9:26 AM, Ondrej Zary <linux at

Blank trailing pages when printing
I've just set up samba as a print server, and it works beautifully, with one exception: after every job, the printer (an HP LaserJet) prints an extra (blank) page. Is this a known problem, and if so, what can I do to fix it? Many thanks, J.

Printing an extra blank page all the time.
Hi, I'm running samba-3.0.5 on OpenBSD 3.5. I'm trying out using samba as a print server for the first time, and it works ok, but I have this problem where everytime I print anything, a additional blank page comes out of the printer at the end of what was just printed. It's an old HP Laserjet 4 connected to the parallel port of the samba server. /etc/printcap lp|HP4|HP Laserjet

Sangoma A200 preventing Zap channels from disconnecting immediately after PSTN line hangs up (getting empty voicemails)
As far as I can tell, after discussing this matter with other asterisk users in my area, my telco _does_ provide disconnect supervision.. It seems that the problem is actually related to the Sangoma A200 card I'm using, as two other people both using this same card have expressed the same problem.. Are there any other users on this list using the Sangoma A200 FXO port card, and experiencing

"No text console available" when trying to get the console of a just created VM from a template on XCP
Hi there, I am trying to set up XCP on Ubuntu 12.04. I went through the procedure given in the README file of the xcp-xapi package and reached the point where the hypervisor seems to be running fine. I set up a VM using the Debian Squeeze (64bit) template and started it, giving a Debian mirror URL as install-repository. Running "xe vm-list" reports that the machine is running, but when

T1 Integrator Birch
I'm thinking about replacing my Birch T1 integrator with an Asterisk box. The Integrator has 12 voice & 768k data, so the Asterisk box would become a router & PBX. Has anyone done anything similar, what experiences have you seen &/or read about. TIA

reference for console printing
Hi there, Can someone suggest a good reference or documentation for the syntax used for printing to the console in comboot programs? I have found a few examples but they don't go into much detail. Thanks for the help. Example: void clear_screen { fputs("\033e\033%@\033)0\033(B\1#0\033[?25l\033[2J", stdout); }

NoOp does not seem to be printing messages on the console...
Hello everyone, I'm trying to send debugging messages to the console. However, although my system seems to be working fine, it does not seem to be printing the NoOp messages on the console... Are there any flags that prevent that to happen? BTW, how to log specific debug messages to a log file? Any suggestions? Thanks for your help, Leo

Reduce/eliminate console printing time?
Hi: I have been writing some functions in R that are about 500-1000 lines long, and when I copy and paste the code into the R console, it takes about 20-30 seconds for R to ?print? and run the code at the console command line (and this is just for function definition - R isn't actually executing any commands). If I minimize the R console so that it shows only one line at a time, screen

Printing a title for an object in the console when writing a function XXXX
Hello everyone, What is the best way to have R print a title and then skip a line (both without the [1] line preffix) when writing a function that prints an object (to the console)? Simplified example: fn3<-function(x,y){ c1<-cov(x,y) print(c1)} data1<-data.frame(age=rnorm(50),weight=rnorm(50)) attach(data1) fn3(age,weight) ===== How do I have R print a nicely formatted title

order of package loading and printing messages to console on startup
Recently in R-devel, I've noticed that when I start up R, code in .Rprofile (in the working directory) gets sourced but any messages printed out by that code (e.g. by `cat') are printed *before* the introductory statement about R. For example, if I put the line library(KernSmooth) in my .Rprofile file, I get artemis:> R KernSmooth 2.22 installed Copyright M. P. Wand 1997 R :
