Faster union of polygons?
Dear R-helpers,
thanks for yesterday's speeding-up tip. Here is my next query:
I have lots of polygons (not necessarily convex ones, and they never
have holes) given by x,y coordinates.
I want to get the polygon that is the union of these polygons. This is
my current method, but I am hoping there is a faster method (up to
thousands of polygons, each with ca. 40 xy points).

How to draw holes generated by gpclib using plot function
Hi.
I've tried to create a polygon with one hole by gpclib using following
example script.
holepoly <- read.polyfile(system.file("poly-ex/hole-poly.txt", package
="gpclib"), nohole = FALSE)
area.poly(holepoly)
plot(holepoly,poly.args=list(col="red",border="blue"))
And I noticed plot function couldn't draw polygons with holes correctly.

Lattice 3d coordinate transformation
Hello List!
I asked this before (with no solution), but maybe this time... I'm
trying to project a surface to the XY under a 3d cloud using lattice.
I can project contour lines following the code for fig 13.7 in
Deepayan Sarkar's "Lattice, Multivariate Data Visualization with R",
but it fails when I try to "color them in" using panel.levelplot.

problem with user defined panel function in xyplot
Hi everyone,
?
I am trying to do a horizonplot using my own time series
data. I know that there is a horizonplot function in latticeExtra, but on
closer examination i think that the graph itself is slightly wrong (it displays
some regions as triangles and i think they should be trapezoids, and the red
regions (that are below the baseline) are displayed on top of the blue areas ?

New package: gpclib
I have just uploaded a package to CRAN called `gpclib' for clipping large
and complex polygons. This package provides an R interface to Alan
Murta's very fast General Polygon Clipper library (written in C), which
has an optimized version of the Vatti algorithm. Not all features of
Murta's library are implemented -- right now you can do intersections,
differences, and unions. There

GPC file
Hi,
I have a tar.gz file. Using $tar -xzvf 'filename', I untarred the file.
However, I found that the content is .PGC files (e.g.
ISCCP.D2.0.GLOBAL.1983.07.99.0000.GPC ).
I have tried to search for analysis of gpc data file in R. I have not been
successful to get a good tip.
I would be pleased if anybody could tell me if gpc analysis is implemented
in R. Is there a program I must first

Plot polygon in 3D with rgl
Dear R-helpers, an rgl-ers in particular,
what is the easiest way to plot a section of a plane in 3D, that is
given by the xyz coordinates of the outline?
Suppose I have a polygon - which I know for sure is a set of
coordinates on the same plane. One method I found is to use surf.tri
from the geometry package, and then plot the triangles with
rgl.triangles. This method is not perfect though,

contour() & contourLines()
Hi Folks,
I have been using contour() to produce some contour plots
(of a spatially-smooted density produced by kde2d()), with
very satisfactory results.
I now want access to the coordinates of the points on the
contours, and it would seem that contour() does not return a
value, so there is nothing from which these could be extracted.
However, apparently contourLines() does, and it seems to be

Storing GPC and GPT
Is possible to store the Group Policy Container (GPC) on a OpenLDAP?
Is possible to store the Group Policy Template (GPT) on a Samba share?
The idea is to manage windows desktop policies using the new Win200x
GPOs without using an Active Directory.
Any other hints?
Thanks

Get contour of a map
Hello everybody,
I search a function which returns the contour of map with levels like contourLines, but I would like this function return the border of the map too, because the function contourLines cannot consider the corner of the map and it is not adapted to fill polygon after that.
Thanks in advance

ountour "resolution"
Greetings all!
I'm wanting to plot contours of a function, and I don't
want to evaluate it at a dense grid of points (i.e. I don't
want a huge array of values).
Say I have a vector of x-values such as x <- 0.1*c(1:10),
and the same for y <- 0.1*(0:10).
I then evaluate a 10*10 matrix z of values of z = f(x,y).
so I can then do
CL <- contourLines(x,y,z)
and get a list of

Simple extraction of level,x,y from contourLines()
A follow-up to my previous query.
Say one of the results returned by contourLines() is
C.W <- contourLines(....)
Then C.W is a list of (in this case 28) lists,
each of which is a list with components $level (a single number),
$x (the x coords of the points on a contour at that level) and
$y (the y coords).
I can of course get these individually with, for the 5th one for
instance,

Labelling contour lines
I am using contour to draw contour lines onto a photo (jpeg) of a leaf on
a white background.
I have two problems:
1) The contour gets plotted at right angles to the jpeg image. I guess
this is a problem of referencing the start and end points of the image
matrix but I can't see how to over come this other than loading in a
second image that has been rotated 90 degrees and plotting the
