The ZFS Read / Write roundabout
Hey all - Was playing a little with zfs today and noticed that when I was untarring a 2.5gb archive both from and onto the same spindle in my laptop, I noticed that the bytes red and written over time was seesawing between approximately 23MB/s and 0MB/s. It seemed like we read and read and read till we were all full up, then wrote until we were empty, and so the cycle went. Now: as it happens,

correlation and causality examples
Dear All, I'am looking for examples showing that correlation does not imply causality, the targeted audience consists of undergraduate students (their first year at the university but in the BioMathStat track). All practicals are under R. I was able to extract this from R datasets: ### begin data(sunspots) data(lynx) spots <- window(sunspots, freq = 1, start = 1880, end = 1900) lnx <-

discrete hazard rate analysis
Dear R users, I have more of a statistical/econometric question than straight R one. I have a data set with the discrete hazard rate of small firms survival on 400 counties over a period of 9 years. This data was generated using census information from the VAT registration number of each one of these business. I would like to analyze the effect of regional factors (deprivation index, real

lately pop3 with #define DEBUG needs GDB=1
I'm not sure when this happened. In yesterday dovecot-1.1 hg if pop3 is compiled with DEBUG defined, it needs GDB=1 otherwise it ends with: Panic: Leaked file fd 4: dev 104.2 inode 3342766 Not sure if this can be caused by the fact that I call pop3 with a bash script. protocol pop3 { mail_executable = /usr/libexec/dovecot/pop3.sh inside I've something like if [ x`id -un` =

Expert to work on load issue
Jon, We are only using FastAgi. On the second system (running Asterisk 16) there are no agi's running (just some bash scripts on call hangup). I did add some hackey code (netstat -nua | grep -v 'udp 0 0' | grep -v udp6 | grep -v ' 0 0.0.0.0' | grep udp) to my bash script to check out the packet queue (with the help of

Multiple Internet facing Nics - Gateway issue
I have a server with 4 nics. Two are using different internet connections, both with static IP's, and two are connected to our private network. The two internet facing nics seem to be battling over the gateway designation. Which ever I designate as the gateway the other stops responding to incoming traffic. I need both to listen to inbound traffic. One for our main web page and the other

Suggestion for memory optimization and as.double() with friends
Hi, when doing as.double() on an object that is already a double, the object seems to be copied internally, doubling the memory requirement. See example below. Same for as.character() etc. Is this intended? Example: % R --vanilla > x <- double(1e7) > gc() used (Mb) gc trigger (Mb) max used (Mb) Ncells 234019 6.3 467875 12.5 350000 9.4 Vcells 10103774 77.1

Hello, I had running OpenMediaVault server with NUT 2.4.3 megatec_usb driver. After the OMV upgrade, NUT also upgraded to 2.6.4. I realised that megatec_usb removed in this version. So I have configured to use blazer_usb driver. However NUT behaves incorrectly after switching blazer_usb. System is being halted upon booted up. Is it possible to use megatec_usb driver in the new version? # NUT

Problem having tick marks aligned when plotting three graphs on top of one another.
R 2.10 Windows 7 I am trying to plot three graphs on top of each other. I need to have the axises perfectly aligned. For some reason the ticks on the y axes are slightly off so they do not perfectly align. Can someone tell me how I can get the to overlay each other perfectly? I thought the yaxp parameter would solve my problem, but it does not. My data and code follows: >
