save and save! fail but no errors are created
Hi
I will provide code if needed but I am wondering
if there might be a standard cause for this: a
Model I am trying to save seems to fail miserably
at either a #save or #save! call. In the latter
case, a RecordInvalid is raised, but when I inspect
it, the Errors object does not contain any error
messages (full or otherwise). I have tried many
a way but I can not seem to get any error info.

Advanced routing question.
Hello All,
I''m making a quick application that tracks outgoing links to referral
sites. I need to track the user and the url they went to so the
easiest way would be to take the entire url as a parameter and log
that into the database. I was wondering if I could do something like
this with routing:

Ordinalizing a date
I''m trying to use the ordinalize() method to ordinalize a day. Here''s
how far I''ve gotten:
@reportday = Time.now.at_beginning_of_week.strftime("%d").to_i
@ordinalized_reportday = "#{@reportday}".ordinalize
I was thinking it wasn''t working because the date is being returned as a
string, however I added the .to_i and still it returns an

restarting fastCGI process
Hi, I am very new to this so please go easy on me... I am trying to
deploy my app on dreamhost and I seem to be having problems getting it
working. One of the troubleshooting items on the wiki states:
Rails apps in production mode do not reflect changes made after they
start running. So, if you found a bug, fixed it and nothing appeared to
happen--this is probably because you

months not working with local language (weekdays does)
For what it's worth, I tried setting my Region | Formats setting to
Spanish (Peru) in Windows 10 Control Panel, and got Spanish weekday and
month results.
I believe on Windows we use the Microsoft C strftime function to produce
these strings, with the %A (for weekday) or %B (for month) formats. So
this question probably needs to be addressed to Microsoft.

Breakdowns in has_many abstraction
I discovered an interesting aspect of has_many behavior that I''m
struggling to work around. I''m not sure if I''m doing something wrong,
or if it''s a legitimate bug, or if it''s an inherent part of Rails that
I just have to learn to deal with.
It boils down to these two problems:
- changes in collection objects (i.e. models that belong_to a

Thank you Duncan and Rui for your time and interest in this issue.
Maybe it is a problem with Windows 7 and Spanish, and not Windows 10.
Let's wait for someone with the same enviroment, before assuming it's a
problem with my PC/configuration.

Hi,
I want to reporte some strange behaviour with the "months" function, from
base R.
When using "months" to extract months from a date column, I'm getting the
months in english, when I was expecting months in spanish.
When using "weekdays" to extract days of week from a date column, I'm
getting the the days in spanish (as expected).

Help useRs to use R's own Time/Date objects more efficiently
This is mostly a RFC [but *not* about the many extra packages, please..]:
Noticing to my chagrin how my students work in a project,
googling for R code and cut'n'pasting stuff together, accumulating
this and that package on the way all just for simple daily time series
(though with partly missing parts),
using chron, zoo, lubridate, ... all for things that are very
easy in base R *IF*

Converting time retrieved from MySQL
I''m having a problem converting a date retrieved from my MySQL database
and I''m hoping someone can help.
MySQL stores the date/time as this:
2005-03-08 17:00:34.0
and according to my Pickaxe book Ruby stores times as "the number of
seconds and microseconds since [...] January 1, 1970". All well and good.
Unfortunately, RoR is converting my date to this:
