randomly select another observation with same grouping factor and year value, do for every record in dataframe
Hello, I am trying to create a function that will move through each record of a data frame, find the value in the "HUC" column, then randomly select another observation from the dataframe with the same value in "HUC" column, as well as the same value in "Yr" column as the first observation. I want the function to produce a list of the RchID of the first observation,

Hello all, I create the following matrix: m <- matrix(1:20, nrow = 10, ncol = 2) which looks like: [,1] [,2] [1,] 1 11 [2,] 2 12 [3,] 3 13 [4,] 4 14 [5,] 5 15 [6,] 6 16 [7,] 7 17 [8,] 8 18 [9,] 9 19 [10,] 10 20 Then, I want to remove randomly 2 rows among the ones where m[,1]<8 and m[,2]>12 I suppose the

randomly select duplicated entries
Using this data as an example dat <- read.table(textConnection("Id myvar 12 1 12 2 12 6 34 9 34 4 34 8 65 15 65 23"), header = TRUE) closeAllConnections() how can I create another data set that does not have duplicate entries for 'Id', but the included values are randomly selected from the available ones. Thanks! Juliet

Randomly select elements based on criteria
Hi, I want to randomly pick 2 fish born the same day but I need those individuals to be from different families. My table includes 1787 fish distributed in 948 families. An example of a subset of fish born in one specific day would look like: >fish fam born spawn 25 46 43 25 46 56 26 46 50 43 46 43 131 46 43 133 46 64 136 46 43 136 46 42 136 46 50 136 46 85 137 46 64 142 46 85 144 46 56

permutation analysis with randomly chosen subsets of a matrix
Hello, here is the problem: I want to demonstrate that, on average, the Pearson's correlations of a specified subset of genes from a huge list (>18,000 columns) are higher than any randomly chosen subset of that list. I would therefore like to do a number of tests between that specified subset and randomly chosen ones from the "mother" list. How could I do that? What would be

Select values at random by id value
All, I have data that looks like below. For each id there may be more than one value per day. I want to select a random value for that day for that id. The end result would hopefully be a matrix with the id as rows, date as columns and populated by the random hab value. Thanks to someone on here (Jim) I know how to do the matrix, but now realize I need to randomly select some of my values.

FW: Select a random subset of rows out of matrix
Dear all, I have a large dataset (N=100,000 with 89 variables per subject). This dataset is stored in a 100.000 x 89 matrix where each row describes one individual and each column one variable. What is the easiest way of selecting a subset of let's say 1.000 individuals out of that whole matrix? Thanks, Michael Michael Haenlein Associate Professor of Marketing ESCP-EAP European School of

results from sammon()
Dear all, I'm trying to get a two dimensional embedding of some data using different meythods, among which princomp(), cmds(), sammon() and isoMDS(). I have a problem with sammon() because the coordinates I get are all equal to NA. What does it mean? Why the method fails in finding the coordinates? Can I do anything to get some meaningful results? Thank you very much Domenico
