optimization and gradient
Dear all, I am using the functions 'optim' and 'nlminb'. For both, you can provide a function which computes the gradient of the objective function (to enhance speed and precision). In my case, both the objective function and the gradient take time to be computed and share many common computations (similar matrix, products, etc...). Therefore, I have to compute these

package functions documentation
Dear all, I am currently creating a package and writing the documention files for some functions (the main functions). When using R CMD check myPackage, I get a warning message indicating that some of my functions are not documented. How can I get rid of this problem? Of course, I don't want to document every function in the package... Thanks for your help. -- David Ardia H-building, room

Help R.matlab
Dear useRs, This post relates to a similar problem ( https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2010-August/250719.html) I am using R.matlab (R.matlab v1.6.3 (2013-01-17) to iterate matrix multiplication in matlab 2012Rb. Everything works fine except for some random iteration of my model the command getVariable would fail to bring matlab objects back to R. Could someone help me understand what's

R and Matlab
Dear Group, I am looking for ways to use R and Matlab. Doing the data transformations in R and using the data in Matlab to analyze with some pre-defined scripts. Any good ways to transfer the data into matlab in its most recent version? I tried using R.matlab but the writeMat output is not readable by Matlab. I just need to output a data.frame and read it as is into matlab where I can do any

GLM Logit and coefficient testing (linear combination)
Hi, I am running glm logit regressions with R and I would like to test a linear combination of coefficients (H0: beta1=beta2 against H1: beta1<>beta2). Is there a package for such a test or how can I perform it otherwise (perhaps with logLik() ???)? Additionally I was wondering if there was no routine to calculate pseudo R2s for logit regressions. Currently I am calculating the pseudo R2

Everything was ok, but now, I get the following error message when compiling the package using R CMD INSTALL: make[2]: *** No rule to make target 'R/Copy', needed in [...] What does that mean? I can still compile other packages containing C code, but not that one. No 00UNLOCK directory has been created . I am on

Panel Data Estimators (within, between, Random Effects estimator)
Dear R Users, Here is another probelm/question. I would like to run some panel regressions with R. Therefore I have combined several time periods of data for different individuals in my database. I have already run pooled OLS but I would need to calculate a Fixed Effects Estimator (within estimator). Unfortunately I couldn't find anything like that in the RSearch and I suppose that lme

Matlab import
Dear R-Experts, here again a question concerning matlab. With the command "matrixM=[1 2 3;4 5 6]" a matrix under Matlab was constructed. It was than stored with the command "save('matrixM.txt','matrixM')". Now I tried to import the data in R with the help of the command "Z=matrix(scan("Z:/Software/R-Programme/matrixM.txt"))" An error

R and reading matlab compressed files
Is there any way to read these files (standard .mat files, created by matlab version 7 onwards are compressed)? I know that R.matlab doesn't read them (it even says in the file MatlabServer.m "Matlab v7 saves compressed files, which is not recognized by R.matlab's readMat()" (lines 47-8)). I know I should be able to make R call Matlab and transfer data (not that I managed to

Porting Matlab code to R
Hello, I'm looking at porting code written for Matlab to R. However, I don't have sufficient knowledge of Matlab to know whether it's feasible or appropriate. If there is anyone who has any experience in this and could provide some advice, I'd be grateful. TIA, Peter [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R to MATLAB translation
Hi, Is there any package out there that might help me with translating R code into MATLAB? Using RSiteSearch I found a bunch of "MATLAB stuff" but it all seems to go in the opposite direction, i.e., emulating MATLAB functions in R. Thanks in advance, Andy __________________________________ Andy Jaworski 518-1-01 Process Laboratory 3M Corporate Research Laboratory ----- E-mail:

Cannot install Matlab 5.3 R11
Hi everybody: Thanks for reading. I'm a Linux Debian Lenny user. I'm trying to install Matlab 5.3 R11 through wine-1.0.1-174-gc4039bd. The SETUP.EXE runs correctly. The problem is when I enter the PLP (Personal License Password) required. I'm sure that the PLP is correct, but "matlab says not". The message is: "The PLP you have entered is incorrect.
