Map using projection
Hi list,
I have a real problem with plotting US state map. When I try to plot the
northern state, there will be some blank space in the top of graph (see case
1 example), and when I plot southern states, there will be a blank space in
the bottom of plot (see case 2). I spent almost 2 days to figure out a
solution, but could not. Would you help me if you know what the problem is?

Alireza

map - mapproj : problem of states localisation
Hi R-user,
I am new with R and I have a problem with the map and mapproj fonctions :
with the following code :
>test_proj=mapproject(LONG_d01_vec_t1, LAT_d01_vec_t1, projection="lambert",
parameters=c(30,60))
>longitude_vec=test_proj$x
>latitude_vec=test_proj$y
>longitude_mat=matrix(longitude_vec,ncol=e_sn_d01)
>latitude_mat=matrix(latitude_vec,ncol=e_sn_d01)

ggplo2: fixed extent greater than data?
Hi everyone!
I'm digging into ggplot for some while now, I must say it's great! But - as
some others have posted before, and hadley knows very well himself - the
documentation is lacking some bits...
So I have to pose that question directly:
I'd like to produce a series of maps with different data on, but exactly the
same extent in each plot. Is there a way of switching the

eps embedded fonts again
Dear friends,
I am sorry, I again rise that boring question about font embedding in
EPS figure.
I found some discussions on this topic but there were no strait solution.
The publisher (AIP) demands submission of separate EPS file
for each figure with all fonts embedded in it (even the standard
14 Adobe fonts).
As I understand the R does not do this embedding. It inserts only
comments what font

the huge postscript plot
Hi,
I'm just wondering how I can do to make a huge postscript plot be
manageable. My question is that I have to draw around 60,000 points which
makes it painfully slow to print or view in gv or put it into latex
document, though it is very fast to produce the postscript file.
A simple example is in the attachment.
Well, I found that if I use png or jpeg. It is much faster to view

Quickly calculating the mean results over a collection of data sets?
I have a collection of datasets in separate data frames which have 3
independent test parameters (w, x, y) and one dependent variable (z) ,
together with some additional static test data on each row. What I want
is a data frame which contains the test data, the parameters (w, x, y)
and the mean value of all (z)s in the Z column.
Each datasets has around 6000 rows and around 7 columns, which

Frequency vector
I want to create a vecor with frequencies.
I have tried this:
a <- c(1,1,1,1,2,3,4,5,5)
b <- table(a)
print (b[1])
which results in:
> print (b[1])

The only thing I want is the 4.
So this seems obvious:
print (b[1,2])
but it does not work:
Error in b[1, 2] : incorrect number of dimensions
How do I get a vector or how do I refer to the "4" without getting the

using mapproj's mapproject function with an Albers projection? Thanks for

Accurate area map projections
Hi,
Could any one point me to the projection, and parameters if necessary, that
would show each country/continent with it's area accurately refelcted on the
plot? E.g. aitoff vs. albers vs. bonne vs. cylequalearea vs. guyou - they
don't all look the same to mee but some of the documentations suggests they
are equal area? Of course this isn't my field, so I am largely guessing and

alaska map?
Hello,
I've installed the Becker and Wilks maps, mapdata, and mapproj packages
so I can begin to try these out for some work I need to do on a map of
Alaska but I don't know where to find a map of Alaska. Has anyone solved
this already and could help?
Thanks very much in advance,

Drawing maps in R?
What tools and documentation exist for producing maps and working
with polygon and polylist objects in R beyond the following:
* Packages maps, mapproj, maptools, and mapdata.
* Becker and Wilks (1993, 1995), listed as references in the
documentation on the "map" function.
Thanks,

Depending on many packages: another best practice question
Dear all,
ggplot currently requires 13 packages (grid, reshape, RColorBrewer,
proto, splines, MASS, Hmisc, boot, butler, hexbin, mapproj, quantreg,
sm). Some of these are absolutely necessary (eg. proto), but most are
used for one or two specific tasks (eg. boot is only used to get
plogis, used for logit scales).
Do you think I should make them all "depends" packages, or

I am using R 2.4.1 with Windows XP.
I use the plot command in a fairly simple script and I use the right mouse
click on the plot and save as a postscript file. I used the resultant file
in a paper which was submitted electronically. However, I get the following
response from the journal:

Bounding Box in pdf files

I create a pdf file in R but latex complains that it can't find the bounding
box. Here is an example:

> plot(1:10)
