Lattice book
Dear all,
I haven't seen this mentioned and presumably Dr. Deepayan Sarkar is
too polite to advertise!
I just received a flyer from Springer: A new book on Lattice released today!!

Analyzing Medical Data Using S-PLUS by Everitt and Rabe-Hasketh
Dear All,
I have just read a glowing review (in the Int. Journal of
Epidemiology) of "Analyzing Medical Data Using S-PLUS" by Everitt and
Rabe-Hesketh and it sounds like the sort of thing I would like to get
my hands on. Is anyone on this list familiar with this book, and in
particular have a feel for how useful it will be with R? According to
the review the emphasis is on the command

Howdy,
I'm trying to see my Samba shares from my Linux box on my WinNT machine. I
can see the Linux box in the Network Neighborhod, but clicking on it just
gets the old "remote computer not available". I've got RedHat 6.0 on the
Linux box. I can ping the Linux box, I can FTP/Telnet to it, and it's my
email server and I have no probl

Audit handbook chapter review, call for general testing
Dear All,
Over the past week or so, I have spent some time updating Tom Rhodes'
excellent FreeBSD Handbook chapter on Audit for some of the more recent audit
changes, such as new features in more recent OpenBSM versions. Since FreeBSD
6.2-BETA2 contains what is likely the final drop of the audit code (modulo any
bug fixes) for 6.2-RELEASE, now would be a great time for people interested

RE: PRI, multi D channels and conventional PBXs (brian)
Hi bkw
Yep, which is going to be a huge problem since it's only taking a line and
not doing any transmittal until after you get a line out, the line of course
is being rejected before I can even get there :(
Of course I can't even establish connectivity to the telco whilst having it
peered to the PBX too due to the D channel issue :(

Users handbook
At the most recent project I completed I have to post a intranet web
page with instructions on using the system and phones. Asterisk is 1.07
stable and the phones are Polycom IP300, IP500, and IP600.
Has anyone done an Astersik users guide? Something non-technical but
covering most of the features an office worker would use.
If nothing exists, should we develop this as a documentation project?

GSoC proposals soon due & student handbook
Hi everyone,
As we're closing in on the time when proposals need to be written and
handed in, I'd like to point out the great student guide to GSoC:

As you may notice this points to Archive.org, that is because
flossmanuals seems to be currently down. That's an additional reason why

Congrats to Brian, Bill, and Peter
Congratulations to Bill Venables and Brian Ripley for their latest "tour de

the book contains new pearls of wisdom to improve my statistical and
programming skills.
Kudos also to Peter Dalgaard for his "Introduction to Statistics with
R". It is a delightful volume that I can recommend to all those

[Kerberos] Error at Handbook?
Hi!
I'm quite new to the list, but searching the archive and PRs didn't
show me anything on the matter.
According to FreeBSD Handbook (14.8.2 Setting up a Heimdal KDC) one
should config DNS server by adding:
-----
_kerberos IN TXT EXAMPLE.ORG.
-----
This doesn't work. DNS servers returns: text = "EXAMPLE.ORG.".
This is right, because RFC 1035 allows up to

Errors in the FreeBSD handbook (MAC framework)

Hello,
I'm doing some work with the MAC subsystem in FreeBSD, and I have
spotted some errors in the MAC documentation in the handbook.

Kerberos in the handbook
Is anyone currently working on updating the Kerberos documentation in
the Handbook? if so, I'd like to help. If not, I'm hoping to find
someone who can get me up to speed on the FreeBSD docbook extensions :-)

``You do not want to overbuild your security or you will interfere

important aspects of any security mechanism. For example, it makes
little sense to set the schg flag (see chflags(1)) on every system
