Ops.factor(point1, point2) : - not meaningful for factors
Hi, can anyone help me in this problem :(. I am a total beginner in R software. It took me 2 days just to look into this problem. Due to this problem. I cant do looping. i want to find the distance between x and DSi > DSi i Si 1 1 (5, 20) 2 2 (20, 2) 3 3 (25, 32) 4 4 (8, 39) 5 5 (10, 17) 6 6 (35, 20) 7 7 (38, 10) > str (DSi) 'data.frame': 7 obs. of 2 variables: $ i

Plot Coloured Triangle
Hi there, I'd like to plot a triangle with each point having a certain color defined and fill it with the interpolated values. The following code shall represent somehow, three points with x,y, and the "amount" of red for example... point1 <- c(1.1, 1.7, 255) point2 <- c(2.2, 1.5, 180) point3 <- c(1.8, 2.2, 60) can anybody give me a hint which methods to use to realize

Geographic distance between lat-long points in R?
Dear R, I have a bunch of geographic locations specified by lat-long coordinates. What's an easy way to calculate geographic distance between any two points? OR, perhaps there is a function for calculating a distance matrix for K sites? Sincerely, Scott Chamberlain [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Strategy for creating a palette...?
Dear all, I'm generally not a big fan of GUIs, but I have just discovered one thing where a GUI would be a nice thing: creating color palettes. I'm creating an "image", for transparencies for a lecture I'm giving, so this is going to look great... :-) What I'm out for, is to make green tones and red tones, and a relatively sharp break between them. This break will

Pairwise Distances -- How to vectorize the loop
R-List, I'm trying to compute pairwise distances among pairs of observations, which each pair containing data from 2 groups. There are more than 100000 unique pairs. I have programmed a distance function that has three parameters, a vector of covariates from the ith observation in Group 1, a vector of covarites from the jth observation in Group 2, and a weighting matrix. I have used

recoding a data in different way: please help
Dear R users The following question looks simple but I have spend alot of time to solve it. I would highly appeciate your help. I have following dataset from family dataset : Here we have individuals and their two parents and their marker scores (marker1, marker2,....and so on). 0 means that their parent information not available. Individual Parent1 Parent2 mark1 mark2 1 0 0

update to my first email
Alright so after checking logs, rebooting the vps because why not, and removing and re-adding the account in thunderbird... Now nothing is working other than sending mail from gmail to the domain. imap does not pick up the email and trying to send with the domain just plain fails, saying it can't connect to the server. Honestly, tempted to uninstall dovecot, sasl and postfix and start

how to create a new data given a vector of variable names
hi, please help me on this. I'm very new to R. I've been figuring out how to do this the whole day, and I could not get the correct R code. Suppose I have a dataframe called x and it consists of 10variables. >x h 1 h 2 h 3 h 4 h 5 h 6 h 7 h 8 h 9 1 0.38971928 0.62884802 0.32708216 0.093909834 0.57773251 0.41258918

help with for loop: new column giving count of observation for each SITEID
Hello, I think this is easy, but I can't seem to find a good way to do this in the R help. I have a list of sites, with multiple years of data for each site id. I want to create a new column that gives a number describing whether it is the 1st year ("1" ) the data was collected for the site, the second year ("2"), etc. I have different years for each siteid, but I don't

playlist streaming
is it true it's not possible to start or stop indvidual streams using icecast2+icegenerator(liveice,ezstream) combination? i've tried mp3 directory streaming as well as playlist streaming - it works, but with no possibility to see full mp3 file listing and play control (like choosing a song, starting, stopping play). Icecast can't even diferentiate /dev/dsp input from playlist input.

randomly select another observation with same grouping factor and year value, do for every record in dataframe
Hello, I am trying to create a function that will move through each record of a data frame, find the value in the "HUC" column, then randomly select another observation from the dataframe with the same value in "HUC" column, as well as the same value in "Yr" column as the first observation. I want the function to produce a list of the RchID of the first observation,

unknown qdisc ''htb'' ???
Hello, I''d like to try out HTB for traffic shaping. I have a test machine with Redhat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.10), I''ve downloaded kernel 2.4.17, applied the patch from http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/, recompiled the kernel (checked the option to use HTB in make menuconfig), and rebooted with the new kernel. When I try to add some rules with HTB (f.i. tc qdisc add dev eth0 root

Multiply Iterated Measurements and Pairwise Comparison
I am familiar with pairwise t-tests, corrections for multiple testing, etc. however I have a problem whose answer I have not found after extensive R-help archive and Google searching. What I have done in the past: I have N items which are measured, exposed to a condition, and then measured again. I wish to know if the condition changes the items so I can perform a t-test. Better yet I can

How to generate a pairwise non-parametric comparison table?
Dear list I am comparing the results of several different experimental setups. With kruskal.test() I can test if there is any difference at all in any of them, if I understand it correctly. But now, when there is a difference, how do I generate a (half-) table of pairwise comparisons, using e.g. wilcox.test(), to find the ones where the difference actually occurs. I guess I don't have to

setting pairwise comparisons of columns (genes)
Hi, I have a number of genes (columns) for which I want to examine pairwise associations of genotypes (each row is an individual)...For example (see data below), I would like to compare M1 to M2, M2 to M3, and M1 to M3 (i.e. does ac from M1 tend to be found with bc from M2 more often than expected.) Down stream I will be performing chi square tests for each pair. But I am looking for a way to

Multidimensional Scaling with pairwise Fst
I want to create a MDS plot with pairwise Fst values derived from a population genetics project. My Fst values are in a tab-delimited file (lower triangle only) that I view with Excel. When I use the cmdscale command I get the message: Error in cmdscale(x) : Distances must be result of dist or a square matrix In addition: Warning messages: 1: "^" not meaningful for factors in:
