impute missing values in correlated variables: transcan?
I would like to impute missing data in a set of correlated variables (columns of a matrix). It looks like transcan() from Hmisc is roughly what I want. It says, "transcan automatically transforms continuous and categorical variables to have maximum correlation with the best linear combination of the other variables." And, "By default, transcan imputes NAs with "best

Problem with groupedData and lme
Dear R-users, I'm currently having trouble with the implementation of a groupedData object in the lme() function. Executing the following function > applyScalingSimp <- function(input.population) > { > ## GA is a time value > varInOrder <- c("GA","weight","grouping","sex") > modelVar <-

Restricted cubic spline function ERROR?: glm(Y~rcs(x,5))
Dear all, Is the restricted cubic spline function working properly in the glm model? We used glm(y~rcs(x,5), family=binomial) but it seems that for some theoretical reasons the rcs, restricted cubic spline function can not be fitted by a glm function. Is this correct? Regards, Jan ((Originally, we used lrm(y~ rcs(x,5)) but we couldn't find how to derive the AIC value of the fitted model.

rcspline.plot query
Dear all, As I am new to the R community - although eager to advance- I would like to pose a question to the community. I have an SPSS file which I have imported it in R (with the read.spss command) which conists of scale (continuous) variable "adiponectin" and the corresponding categorical value "death" (0=No, 1=Yes). In all there are 60 observations (among which

Impose constraint on first order derivative at a point for cubic smoothing spline
Hello,        Dr. Simon Wood told me how to force a cubic spline passing through a point. The code is as following. Anyone  who knows how I can change the code to force the first derivative to be certain value. For example, the first derivative of the constrained cubic spline equals 2 at point (0, 0.6).        I really appreciate your help!        Thanks!                 Best             Victor

finding the best cubic spline fitting
Hi, I am trying to fit cubic spline to a data on mortality rate by age and year (1900-2008). The data is noisy and hence I would like to smooth using spline and also extrapolate beyond 2008. Data from 1900 to 1948 are very unreliable while data from 1948 to 2008 are reliable. I would like to have a higher weight for data between 1948 to 2008. I am not sure how to do this. When I smooth data from

basic cubic spline smoothing (resending because not sure about pending)
Hello, I come from a non statistics background, but R is available to me, and I needed to test an implementation of smoothing spline that I have written in c++, so I would like to match the results with R (for my unit tests). I am following Smoothing Splines, D.G. Pollock (available online) where we have a list of points (xi, yi), the yi points are random such that: y_i = f(x_i) + e_i

plotting output from LME with natural cubic spline
I have used LME to fit a mixed effects model on my data. The data has 274 subjects with 1 to 6 observations per subject. Time is not linearly associated with the outcome, so I used ns to fit a natural cubic spline with 3 auto knots. Subject and the natural cubic time of spline are both treated as random effects. This model has run without any problem, but now I would like to plot trajectories for

Use pcls in "mgcv" package to achieve constrained cubic spline
Hello everyone,          Dr. wood told me that I can adapting his example to force cubic spline to pass through certain point.          I still have no idea how to achieve this. Suppose we want to force the cubic spline to pass (1,1), how can I achieve this by adapting the following code? # Penalized example: monotonic penalized regression spline ..... # Generate data from a monotonic truth.

Natural cubic splines produced by smooth.Pspline and predict function in the package "pspline"
Hello, I am using R and the smooth.Pspline function in the pspline package to smooth some data by using natural cubic splines. After fitting a sufficiently smooth spline using the following call: (ps=smooth.Pspline(x,y,norder=2,spar=0.8,method=1) [the values of x are age in years from 1 to 100] I tried to check that R in fact had fitted a natural cubic spline by checking that the resulting

How to use cubic spline coefficients from termstrc package?
Hi, I'm using the cubic splines from termstrc package. I invoked the splines_estim function with a group of 43 bonds. It computes 6 knot points and returns values for alpha1 to alpha7. My question is how to use these alpha1 to alpha7 in the equation of yield? For example, if I'm trying to find the yield at, say, 12.25 years, which falls between 3rd & 4th knot points what should the
