about lscv
Thanks in advance.
Nowadays I just calculate the bandwidth h of cross validation in kernel
smoothing using R language.
And I just looked up the usage of function, which is lscv(x,......,
exact=FALSE)
My question is what does "........" stand for and mean? do you mind
specifically explaining it for me?
Thanks
Regards

R crashes with >kud<-kernelUD(data, h="LSCV") script
Hi,
I am looking to perform a kernel density analysis in R, following the script that a friend of mine is using successfully. However, unlike for her, when I enter >kud<-kernelUD(data, h="LSCV"), R crashes and closes every time. This does not happen when I perform a different kernel analysis (>kud<-kernelUD(data))..
I have tried to un-install and re-install R, but it still

I would like to use the kernel2d or spkernel2d in the Splancs-package, but
it does not recognize my polygon data.

the error message.

Adehabitat package question - trying to generate animal home ranges
Hello,
I'm new to R and am trying to use the adehabitat package for home range and
habitat selection analysis for some animal radiotelemetry data sets I have,
but I can't get the home range functions (mcp & kernelUD) to work with my
data. I think that my problem is that I don't properly understand how the
package uses data frames and factors, and I may not be defining the id

errors when installing packages (ubuntu)
Hi List,
I'm having problems installing certain packages. When I try to install
fields, I get the output below. I have highlighted the what I perceive as
the first error (spam seems to be a dependency of fields). Can I assume this
is causing dependency problems for fields, which fails to install at the
end, or is there a deeper problem? I run Ubuntu Karmic Koala on R 2.9.2.

problem installing fields package 3.5 on R 1.8.1 on linux
I am returning to using R after a little time away.
Saw some great new functions in the fields package and decided to upgrade.
Everything seems to go fine until I tried to actually load the package, when
I get an error:
>library(fields)
Error in parse(file, n, text, prompt) : syntax error on line 227
And (of course) I am unable to access any of the functions in the fields
package.

Smoothing Parameter Kernel
Hello to everybody,
I need to know the Smoothing Parameter to obtain Home Range of an animal
through the Area Kernel. I have 200 locations with x and y. How can I obtain
the Smoothing Parameter with R for LSCV, CV and Href method???
Thank you.

[LLVMdev] LLVM and the windows xp/vista kernel
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has had success at running the LLVM within the windows xp kernel? The XP kernel really does not like C++ or exceptions and there is a project which attempts at getting C++ in there. In your humble opinion, do you think it can be done?
My project is a reconfigurable device driver system which dynamically optimizes for the available hardware. two thirds is within

problem installing packages from source on win2k
Dear R-helpers,
I'm having trouble compiling R packages from source on Win2K. I installed R 1.7.1beta [1] on my win2k machine [2], downloaded the fields package as source [3] and tried but failed to install the package [4]. I get the same problem with other packages, so it doesn't appear to be limited to fields. Installation of precompiled packages seems to work fine. I've been

Question:manipulating spatial data using combination of Maptools and Splancs
Hi,
I have a problem that concerns combination of the package Maptools and
Splancs
I have 2 shapefiles that i want to manipulate (one of type point and one
polygon).I import them in R using Maptools but then i can't estimate a
quartic Kernel using Splancs. The package doesn't recognize the shapes
(invalid points and poly argument).I don't know if this is an easy task but

Any ESRI users? Upgrade 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a broke Arcmap layer loading?
We just upgraded our samba server from 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a and have discovered
a subtle but very painful problem.
Users of ESRI ArcMap (on fully patched Windows XP clients) are unable to
read complex layered file data.
Arcmap works fine with 3.0.14, it works fine with the data on a windows
share, and it works fine when I set up a server to run the version of samba
shipping with Solaris 9 (3.0.2! ).

SOLVED was Re: Any ESRI users? Upgrade 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a broke Arcmap layer loading?
Did not hear from anyone on this, so maybe we are the only ESRI users who
got bit, but this turned out to be an issue with oplocks. Disabling oplocks
on the server eliminated the problem.

R Output and ArcGIS
Dear all,
I've been using R on a Mac to process some data for export to ArcMap GIS (which only runs on Windows). ArcMap seems to require tab-delimited data (my data are in 3 columns), so I've been using the sep="\t" argument. However, this resulted in strange end-of-line characters when displayed on a PC. I looked in the write.table help file to find that eol="\r\n"

reading an image and adding a legend
Hi all,
I would like to
1. Read in an arcmap image into R (I can export pretty much any type of image jpeg, bitmap etc from arcmap)
2. Use R to create a nice colour legend in the plot
First of all, Is this possible?
So far I'm stuck on point 1. I have tried read.pnm() from pixmap and read.jpeg() from rgl.
the pnm example provided works fine

Spatstat: xy binary data into mask type to use in owin(mask=)
Dear users,
I am trying to export polygons from Arcmap into Spatstat to run some
simulations using functions available in Spatstat package.
One particular area to be exported is formed by a number of polygons
defining the external boundaries of the area (as a groups of islands) and a
number of polygons inside the previous ones, as ?holes? not to be
considered as part of the area.

(no subject)
Dear All,
I am trying to visualize the surface of a bivariate kernel density
estimate.
I have a vector of bivariate observations(x,y), and a function which
computes the kernel density estimate z corresponding to each
observation. I cannot generate the (x,y) data in the ascending order
needed by persp(x,y,z).
I was wondering whether there is an R version of the S function interp.
Would anybody
