Rmpi and OpenMPI ?
Has anybody tried to use Rmpi with the OpenMPI library instead of LAM/MPI?
LAM appears to be somewhat hardcoded in the Rmpi setup. Before I start to
experiment with changing this, has anybody else tried Rmpi with non-LAM MPI
implementations?

Rmpi 0.5-6 : error spawning process
Hi,
I am using a cluster with LAM 7.1.3/MPI 2 and R 2.6.0.
Rmpi version 0.5-5 is working very well.
Now I have tested "Rmpi 0.5-6". During spawning the Rslaves I get an

Rmpi and C Code, where to get the communicator
Hello,
I try to write parts of my code in C to accelerate the for-loops. But
basic operations I want to do in R (e.g. start cluster). My R code looks
something like this:
library(Rmpi)
mpi.spawn.Rslaves()
mpi.remote.exec(....)
dyn.load("test.so")
erg <- .Call("test", ....)
....
mpi.close.Rslaves()
mpi.quit()
And my C function looks something like this:

Rmpi task-pull
Hi, I'm testing the efficiency of the Rmpi package regarding parallelization
using a cluster.
I've found and tried the task pull programming method, but even if it is
described as the best method, it seems to cause deadlock, anyone could help
me in using this method?
here is the code I've found and tried:

experinental revision of the 'snow' package
A new version of the 'snow' package for parallel computing in R is
available at
http://www.stat.uiowa.edu/~luke/R/cluster/snow_0.3-3.tar.gz
This substantially revises the way in which worker processes are
started to allow snow to be used on Windows and Mac/Windows/Linux
combinations. I have successfully used the SOCK version on a

simultaneous computing
Hello,
which possibilities are available in R for simultaneous or parallel
computing?
I only could find biopara
(http://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Descriptions/biopara.html)
Are there other possibilities?
Are there special groups working on simultaneous computing with R?
Thanks

help installing Rmpi
Hello R users and developers,
I would like to install Rmpi so that I may take advantage of all of
the CPUs in my computer, but I cannot get it to install and I am not
very good with linux so it is adding to the headache. I have looked
through the help archive, but I have not been successful at getting
Rmpi to work. I am not sure if I am even installing openMPI correctly
in linux. I would really

Parallel R for dummies (on hpc)
Hi,
I had access to an hpc cluster, and wanted to parallelize some of my R code. I looked at the snow, nws, rscalapack documentation but was unable to make out how I should submit my job to the hpc, and how I should code a simple program. For example, if I had 10 matrices, and 10 processor how should I write the R (and the hpc submit code) so that I run the calculations (e.g. rowsums) for each

Rmpi : openmpi and mpi.spawn.Rslaves
Hello,
I'm using R on a 10 blade dual quad core Rocks Cluster, and trying to use Rpmi and snow. I basically wondered if at the moment I ought to install Rmpi against another form of mpi (not openmpi) and wondered whether anyone could pass on any experience.
I'm mainly worried about (a) the R server taking up 100% cpu time (I think this is a known issue with Rmpi and openmpi) and (b)

R on a computer cluster
Dear all,
I usually run R on my laptop with Windows XP Professional.
Now I really want to run R on a computer cluster (4 processors) with
Suse Linux Enterprise ver. 10. But I am new with computer cluster.
Should I modify my functions in order to use the greater
performance
and availability than that provided by my laptop?
Is there any R

cluster/snow question
Dear R Users,
I am attempting to use the snow package for clustering. Is there a way to
identfy, in the environment of each node, a rank for that node and also,
the total size of the cluster ?
By way of analogy, I am looking for the functions in snow equivalent to
mpi.comm.rank() and mpi.comm.size() from RMPI, in case that makes things
clearer.
Thanks in advance,
Tolga

problem with Rmpi 0.5-5 and openmpi
Dear knowledgeable experts :-),
I am trying to get openmpi, Rmpi and SNOW running on a Myrinet/GM

installation of Rmpi and SNOW.
I try to load the Rmpi library and get the following:

I am trying to utilize my dual core processor (and later a

the "cluster" on my dual core computer. Whenever I try to initialize
it (via sfInit(parallel=TRUE, cpus=2) or mpi.spawn.Rslaves(nslaves=2)
), I get an error message:

I've spent a few days trying to install Rmpi with no luck. I originally
tried using mpich, moved on to mpich2, and then to openmpi. I've gotten
the furthest with openmpi, though am still running into this problem and
can't figure it out. Can someone help!? Thanks so much in advanced.

RScaLAPACK package with OpenMPI
Hi all,
I'm using RScalapack library for parallelizing some heavy matrix
operations required by MCMC methods for spatio-temporal models. The
package reference manuals (dated 2005) states that the library needs
LamMPI to work but we have a Linux Cluster with OpenMPI. We have found
(http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/devel/R-RScaLAPACK/) a patch for
OpenMPI but we are wondering if in the
