Best R text editors?
Quick informal poll: what is everyone's favorite text editor for working with R? I'd like to hear from people who are using editors that have some level of direct R interface (e.g. Tinn-R, Komodo+SciViews). Thanks! --j -- Jonathan A. R-/Text-editor for Windows?
Tinn-R (http://www.sciviews.org/Tinn-R/) is one of the topmost suggestions when googling an R-(text-)editor for Windows. However, to me it appears dissappointing that Tinn-R does not handle utf-8 (mac-roman, or any other) encoded R-scripts or, in general, text files. Besides Emacs and the R built-in editor, could you recommend a good editor for Windows, even some commmercial for a small

R GUI ???
Hello ! I am really happy to find this list. I am not new to R but to Debian or Linux in general. Up to now I used R on MS Windows but now I want to use R on Debian lenny. I have absolutely no experience with Debian. I was able to install R 2.11 on my system using the instruction in the readme on CRAN. I can open R in the shell. On windows I used R with the R GUI or with Tinn-R. Is there the

Hello everyone Can you please teach me how to save my homework as .R file? I write my code in RGui. When I tried to save my work, the RGui only allows me to save it as .RData. By the way, after I save my work as .RData, I cannot reopen it. when I open it, only one message comes out as following: "ARGUMENT_ignored_." -- View this message in context:

Colour-coded Editor for R Code
Do any of you know any simple programming editors for R scripts which offer basic colour-coding and bracket-matching facilities? Dregging through scripts to find a missing comma or parentheses is something I'd rather do less of... Jon Minton [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

using command line flags with TINN-R
This is a TINN-R editor question rather than an R question, but can anyone tell me how to use command line flags with TINN-R. There is a space to fill in the path to Rgui, and I have "C:\Program Files\R\rw2001pat\bin\Rgui.exe". If I try to add a command line flag after that, such as " --no-save" or " --max-mem-size" then TINN-R will not open the application.

Linux Editor
Hi Everyone, I recently have started using R again on a Linux box after spending several years on a Mac. Last I checked, the best way to use R was through EMACS using something like ESS. I remember that being serviceable but not always the most convenient. Is there anything comparable to the mac version of R with its built in console, editor, etc?? thanks! -- View this message in context:

good editor for R sources ?
Dear all, (Sorry if the question has already been answered.) Could someone please suggest a good text editor for writing R sources ? (I know emacs exists ... but I find it a bit heavy). I use crimson (http://www.crimsoneditor.com) which is small and simple, but the R syntax seems not to be supported. Thanks for any advice

R GUI considerations (was: R, Wine, and multi-threadedness)
Hello, Following a discussion initiated on r-devel, that mentions SciViews-R and other GUIs issues for R, I would like to make comments (and would be happy if these comments would initiate interesting initiatives). A big, big problem with SciViews-R is that a part of it is written in Visual Basic 6, a M$$$$ language, not supported any more, buggy, non transposable to other platforms, etc,

SciViews and Tinn-R installation problem
Hello, I have just installed R 2.7.0 and re-installed SciViews 0.8-9 and Tinn-R 1.19.4.7 and seem to have broken something along the way as follows. I double-click on my current .RData file in the Windoze explorer, R Console and Tinn-R load successfully (?). I can list objects in my working directory with ls() but, when I attempt to refresh any list in the R explorer tab of the Tools child

Gracias Javier [[alternative HTML

Most used R editors
Hi, I am a little lonely as R users in my group. So, I would like to know which editor is the most used in the R community. This post is some kind of survey. Personally, I use Emacs with ESS, It permits to : - open more than one R session - split the emacs editor as many part as you want. - use a lot of keybindings. ... I also tried Rkwards, Scilab (windows), JGR etc... but they are not

Alternativa a RStudio

Test Driven Development in R
Hi, I wonder what kind of interest there is on Test Driven Development (TDD) in R. Test Driven Development consists of writing the test before the function, and iteratively build the function until it passes the test. Python and Ruby (specially Ruby) have very strong test-oriented cultures. In fact, in Ruby at least the custom is to do TDD and lately Behavior-driven development (BDD). In BDD,

Alternativa a RStudio
