Morning all: Coming straight to the point. Switched from XP to Ubuntu Linux. Followed the steps outlined on the website to install a current version of R to my machine. Seems to have worked OK, but the process doesn't install it to the desktop. The notes don't go into that part of it, so I'm seeking some advice from others more experienced on how to take the last couple of steps

Using the ctv package I pulled in the contents of the Finance view. Not clear which one, but one of the packages called up RDCOMClient as an apparent dependency. Evening all: Recently moved over to Ubuntu 7.10. Installed version 2.7.0 of R from the U of T site in Ontario, Canada. Working on installing Rcmdr as my GUI of choice (yes, I know lots of you probably prefer an emacs/ess combination but give me a break. It's what I was comfortable with using R under XP). For the most part the installs have gone well in a regular terminal window using
