Clean up a complex variable
Dear all, I need to clean up one variables in a dataset. e.g. lets say the dataset is "trial", the variable for cleaning up is "V1" >trial$V1 [1] 0(a=1) 0(b=1) 0.133(b=1) 0.555(a=1) >5.32(a=1) what i need to do is to remove the text (a=1) and (b=1) and the ">" in the V1, and then convert to a numeric variable, and als I am aslo requested that when the

Categorical Response Query
Hi all, I have a queston about Categorical response. i have a data frame containing age, sex, class, success(1=success, 0=non sucess). age, sex, class are the explantory variables, and sucess is the response variable. and i can get n (the nunber of times each age occurs) and r (the number of sucess of that age). when I try to creat the regression relationship for these variables, I have seen

Logistic regression with multiple imputation
Hi, I am a long time SPSS user but new to R, so please bear with me if my questions seem to be too basic for you guys. I am trying to figure out how to analyze survey data using logistic regression with multiple imputation. I have a survey data of about 200,000 cases and I am trying to predict the odds ratio of a dependent variable using 6 categorical independent variables (dummy-coded).

Help on R Coding
Hi all, I am kind of stuck of using Predict function in R to make prediction for a model with continuous variable and categorial variables. i have no problem making the model, the model is e.g. cabbage.lm2<- lm(VitC ~ HeadWt + Date + Cult) HeadWt is a continuous variable, Date and Culte are factors. Date have three levels inside (d16,d20,d21), Cult has two levels(c39,c52). I need to

predict.fda difficulties
Dear Dr Hornik / R help list, I am using the mda package and in particular the fda routine to classify a set of 162 neurons falling in to 11 neuronal cell types according to 17 morphological variables. I would like to use a cross-validation approach in which I split the data, train with one part amd then test the predictive accuracy of the discriminant functions with the remaining part. However

Clustering Categorial and Continuous Variables
Hi there fellow R users, R has many different clustering packages (e.g. mclust,cluster,e1071). However, can anyone recommend a method to deal with data sets that contain categorial and continuous variables? How to get mode in case of discrete or categorial data
Dear all, in a previuos message was asked how get the mode of continous distribution. Now I'm asking if there an R function to obtain the mode in case of a discrete distribution or categorial data. The only way is to use table(): > x<-rep(1:5,100) > s<-sample(x,40) > t<-table(s) > t s 1 2 3 4 5 13 10 5 4 8 the mode is value=1 Thanks Cordially Vito =====

recode categorial vars into binary data
Dear R-List, I would like to recode categorial variables into binary data, so that all values above median are coded 1 and all values below 0, separating each var into two equally large groups (e.g. good performers = 0 vs. bad performers =1). I have not succeeded so far in finding a nice solution to do that in R. I thought there might be a better way than ordering each column and recoding the

Mode in case of discrete or categorial data
Thanking John for his suggestion I build this function which get the mode of both categorial and discrete data. Mode<-function(x){t<-table(x) if (is.numeric(x)) as.numeric(names(t)[t == max(t)]) else (names(t)[t == max(t)]) } Any other improvement and suggestion will welcome. Re: LXC + USB passthrough = Operation not permitted
Dear Fil, I am not sure if my answer can help you. I had ever asked a similar question to Daniel and I was using a thirty-party card. As a container uses a shared kernel with the host, so hostdev mode='subsystem' doesn't make sense. Maybe you can try to use hostdev mode='capabilities'. Please see http://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsHostDevCaps Hope this helps Cheng

Fitting a choice model (Bradley-Terry generalization)
I have some data I would like to model which involves choice of food by dung beetles. There are a number of experiments where in each case, there are five choices. Overall there are more than 5 different foods being compared (including a placebo) and different experiments use different comparisons. The problem is a generalization of Bradley-Terry but it differs from some generalizations in
