logical 'or' on list of vectors
Suppose I have a list of logicals, such as returned by lapply: Theoph$Dose[1] <- NA Theoph$Time[2] <- NA Theoph$conc[3] <- NA lapply(Theoph,is.na) Is there a direct way to execute logical "or" across all vectors? The following gives the desired result, but seems unnecessarily complex. as.logical(apply(do.call("rbind",lapply(Theoph,is.na)),2,"sum"))

groupedData
Dear all, I tried to create a groupedData object, where the grouping factor is not ordered. Here ist the code: library(nlme) test<-groupedData(conc~Time|Subject,order.groups=F,data=as.data.frame(Theoph)) > getGroups(test) Levels: 6 < 7 < 8 < 11 < 3 < 2 < 4 < 9 < 12 < 10 < 1 < 5 I still get an ordered factor. As always thanks for your help peter

multiple pages with ggplot2 possible?
Dear all, This question was asked a few years ago. Back then, the answer was NO. Just wonder if the package has been updated to make it possible. An example (Theoph is a dataset coming with R) ggplot(data=Theoph, aes(x=Time, y=conc)) + geom_point() + facet_wrap(~Subject) gives me all 12 subjects on one page. Can I break it down to several pages? say 2x2 on each page? Thanks. Jun

gnls from library nlme
Dear all, I am trying to gain some experience with the function gnls from the nlme package. I tried to model the Theophyline data by trying to model the presumed dependency of the clearance on the body weight. This is my function call of gnls: gnls(conc~SSfol(Dose,Time,lKe,lKa,lCl),data=Theoph, params=list(lKe~1,lKa~1,lCl~Wt),start=c(-2.4,0.46,-3.22,0.01)) That's been the result: Error

legend on trellis plot
Dear all I have two questions regarding trellis plots - which I hope you may be able to help me with. Is it possible to place the key in a trellis plot on the panel (instead of beside the panel)? This will cause the same key to be reproduced on each panel. Please see the plot below - here I placed the legend below the plot. I tried moving the key to the function statement, but it did not really

trellis margin sizes in absolute units
Dear R users, I have a lot of experience with traditional R graphics, but I decided to turn to trellis as it was recommended for spatial graphs by the sp package. In traditional R graphics I always first set the size of the device region absolute units (e.g. mm) and then I firmly fix the inner margins with mai and the outer margins with oma also in absolute units. What is left from the device

Trellis margins settings so that they are like a base graphic with no figure region when printed to png file?
Dear R-experts, I want to produce a very small png file (35 x 18 px) that contains a histogram without a figure region or margins, only the pure heights. In the base graphic this was easy: png(filename = "hist.png", res = 72, width=35, height=18) par(mar=c(0,0,0,0), oma=c(0,0,0,0)) hist(rnorm(100), main="") dev.off() Now I want a grid graphics output as

Shrink Trellis margins settings (when printed to png file)
Dear R-experts, I have two problems: PROBLEM (1) ----------- I want to produce a very small png file (35 x 18 px) that contains a histogram without a figure region or margins, only the pure heights. In the base graphic system this is simple: png(filename = "hist.png", res = 72, width=35, height=18) par(mar=c(0,0,0,0), oma=c(0,0,0,0)) hist(rnorm(100),

(no subject)
can you recommend a good manual for R that starts with a data set and gives demonstrations on what can be done using R? I downloadedR Langauage definition and An introduction to R but haven't found them overly useful. I'd really like to be able to follow some tutorials using a dataset or many datasets. The datasets I have available on R are Data sets in package 'datasets':

Outer margin (oma) settings for pairs()
I propose the following small changes to pairs.default. The point is to allow control of the outer margin settings, so that there is for example room for legends. [Note also the issue re the setting of par()$usr on exit] ---------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Replace function (x, labels, panel = points, main = NULL, font.main = par("font.main"),

trellis graph question
R2.2, WinXP: I am using xyplot( ) to generate time plots of plasma concentration data. The following is an edited version of my code: xyplot(log.conc ~ time| group, data = foo, groups = subject, panel = function(x, y, panel.number, ...) { panel.superpose(x, y, subscripts = TRUE, groups = foo$group, type = 'l', col

trellis: positioning of key
Dear R users, Using xyplot(), how can I position the key in the *margin* outside the plotting area ? My problem is that the key always overlaps with the x axis labels, no matter how I try to specify any of the par() arguments (e.g. oma()). Many thanks for any suggestions! Christoph ### for information, here??s the code I use par(oma=c(0,0,3,0)) ###this, I think, is what should be changed

Call to trellis.focus(); thenpanel.superpose()
The following works fine with the x11 device, though it may well be that an initial plot is overwritten. With a pdf or postscript device, I get two plots, the first of which still has the red border from having the focus, while the second is the plot that I want. library(lattice); library(grid) plt <- xyplot(uptake ~ conc, groups=Plant, data=CO2) print(plt)

Problem with plotting a square 1 x 3 plot and placement of outer margin text
Dear R-helpers, Please see the attached plot. The problem is that I have too much space between the x-axis label (which is mtext in an outer margin) and the plots. My par settings for this plot are: >par(mfrow=c(1,3),oma=c(2,2,2,2),mar=c(5.1,4.1,4.1,2.1),pty="s") >#here is the code that produces the three plots, which I have deleted for simplicity >mtext("Log Wetland

short plots: lwd, margin and postscript behavior
Hi all. I'm working with a short plot (3x3 inches), but the results (via postscript command) are not nice. The lwd command don't affect the lines (that are very large) and the margins don't change using oma, mai, mar, ... Below I put an example. Moreover, save the graphics via postscript command isn't working well (see the attached ps). Thanks by the help, Cezar Freitas.

margin control in lattice package
Hi all, I am difficulty with simple layout of plots in the lattice package I have created a series of levelplots and would like to plot them to a single device, but need to reduce the margin areas. This is easily accomplished with par(oma) and par(mar) in the base graphics package but I am having problems finding the equivalent features in the lattice package. Ideally, I would like to reduce

Legend in the outer margin
Dear Rs I have a 3x3 multiple plot. I would like to have a overall legend in the outer right margin. From the help archive, I found that it can be done by setting par(xpd=NA). However, I couldn't find the correct values for x and y co-ordinates for the legend. Please find the code snippet below: par(mfrow=c(3,3), mar=c(4,4,0.9,0.5), oma=c(1,2,2,4),cex.main=1.1)

Multiple figures margin problem
Hello All, I am trying to make a figure with 3x2 plots in it. Let us name the plots as such: 1 2 3 4 5 6 I begin my script with: par(mfcol=c(3,2)) par(oma=c(0,0,0,0)) --> This is for a postscript figure so I really don't need the outer margins. d=5 par(mar=c(d,d,d,d)) --> This applies to all the 6 plots. Now if d=0, plots 1-2,3-4 and 5-6 will have no gap between them and
