Puzzled over curve() syntax.
It's probably toadally elementary (and, like, duhhhhh) but I can't figure out why the following doesn't work: curve(function(x){qnorm(x,4,25)},from=0,to=1) I get the error: Error in xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ But if I do foo <- function(x){qnorm(x,4,25)} curve(foo,from=0,to=1) it goes like a train. Also

Problem with X11 fonts under Fedora 17.
I previously posted about this problem on the r-help list, but was told that I should switch over to the r-sig-fedora list. So here goes: When trying to do a plot in a certain context I got an error: Error in text.default(2, 6, main, cex = cex) : X11 font -adobe-helvetica-%s-%s-*-*-%d-*-*-*-*-*-*-*, face 1 at size 16 could not be loaded This is reproducible (in my current environment)

Plot 2 ecdf in one graph
Hi r-users,   I would like to compare the cdf between historical and predicted. My x.obs and x.pre are the frequency data in classes of 0-300. I tried: plot(ecdf(x.obs),ecdf(x.pre),type="l",col="red")   and it gives me: Error in plot.stepfun(x, ..., ylab = ylab, verticals = verticals, pch = pch) :   argument 4 matches multiple formal arguments   Thank you so much for any

Another X11 problem. (Psigh!)
Tried to do a plot just now and got an error: Error in text.default(2, 6, main, cex = cex) : X11 font -adobe-helvetica-%s-%s-*-*-%d-*-*-*-*-*-*-*, face 1 at size 16 could not be loaded This is reproducible (in my current environment) via: par(mfrow=c(2,2)) plot(1:10) text(2,6,"Oh, hell!",cex=2) This is of course not the real context in which the error originally manifested

Creating pulldowns using loops
Creating looped pulldowns in PHP is simple so I can''t figure out why it seems to elude me in RoR. I want to create a simple pulldown list with the options and values "1" through "14." I have been trying to accomplish this with the .upto method like so: --START RHTML CODE-- <% options_array = [ 1.upto(14) {|i| print "[" i "," i "]"}

How can I have the tests for my Rails app to be executed in a random order?
Hi How can I have the tests for my Rails app to be executed in a random order? Is there a simple solution using rake? I already posted my question to stackoverflow (http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/1376267/ruby-executing-tests-in-a-random- order-with-rake) but the few responses I got were not able to solve the problem. Thanks a lot! Pietro Di Bello

Custom assembler subset
Hello all, I would like to restrain the compiler that I build on my local box from picking all but a particular set of opcodes. Is there a way to accomplish this in a straightforward way? I'm pretty sure that there is a list of opcodes to semantics mappings. In addition, is there a way to look at an associative mapping of LLVM IR to opcode, and/or vice versa? -------------- next part

Will VoIP ITSP's be Next?
Will VoIP be Next? Telco's that provide Internet services to their customers are now trying to charge select companies for large volumes of content that pass over their network to their paying customers! What part of this "greed fest' makes any sense to you? Telco's sell DSL telling customers how much faster it is, how much they can do with Highspeed Internet connections and now

doubly multivariate analysis in R
20 subjects were measured in 5 conditions (thus repeated measures) and for each subject in each condition there are 4 response measures (thus multivariate as it is a combined score that needs to be compared across the conditions). So, using a multivariate approach to repeated measures this is a doubly multivariate analysis. I would appreciate any suggestions as to the best way to do such a

Doubly Non-Central F-Distribution
Dear Professor I have read your questions in the website on Doubly non-central F-distribution. I am looking for source code for evaluating this function now. I have matlab code but it's only accurate up to the 4th decimal point. Dataplot is more accurate, but it is not user friendly as you only can evaluate one function at a time. So I would like to know do you have found any R code for

Keyboard
All, I installed R-2.10.1 with Readline=no. Now for some reason R does not recognize some key strokes like the directional arrows. I am not sure if Readline is the problem or not. I have tried .Cofigure with Readline = yes but it doesn't fix the problem nor do I really know if readline is the problem to start with. Has anybody else run into similar problems? Thanks, Steve [[alternative

Customizing a Plot in Correspondence Analysis
Hello, Using the Correspondence Analysis package (ca), I wonder if there is a way to further customize the plot beyond the options given in plot.ca provided by the mentioned package. The correspondence analysis I am doing consists of two datasets sharing only the rows, so the plot draw the total of columns (from both datasets) in the graph and the rows as expected. However, as in my case the

Question about histogram
Dear list, I'm new to R, please bear with my silly questions. I'm trying to get an understanding of why the results I get from a call to hist() are not as I thought I would get. When I use the parameter freq=FALSE, I think the plot will contain bars that none of them is larger than 1, because they're probabilities. But for my code, the bars exceeded 1. The actual data seems
