Hiera, OSSEC and per-node stuff?
Hi.
I have an interesting use case.
OSSEC is security tool based on server-client architecture. Server
generates keys for agents, and every agent has different key.
Now I want to distribute these keys via puppet. I''ve come accross hiera
and installed it, and it works superbly, but how to store per-node key
in hiera?
This is my idea:
hiera,yaml:

file.copy() problems on WinNT (PR#1085)
For some files, file.copy() doesn't copy these files correctly.
Here you will find a file (Bitmap, 769Kb) to reproduce the problem:
http://www.statistik.uni-dortmund.de/leute/ligges/R/test1.bmp
Using
file.copy("c:/test1.bmp", "c:/test2.bmp", overwrite = TRUE)
produces a second file with the size of ~1.4 Mb:

Windows rejects name registration
Dear people of samba,
my problem seems to be a firewalled WinXP in our net.
Our Samba is the Debian testing (Samba 3.x).
It is configured to hold the browsing list and to
become master. The nmbd.log shows:

Scoping rule problem -- solved
Thanks to some comments from Brian D. Ripley, I found my error:
I should not have given a data argument to lm() after creating a
formula-object. This obviously confused things...
Thanks again, I've really learnt again a bit more on R-programming...
Cheers, Winfried

useR! Thanks
After attending my first useR! conference I want to thank the organizers
for doing a wonderful job and the presenters for their high quality
presentations and stimulating ideas. The conference venue was
excellent and of course Vienna is one of the greatest cities in the
world to visit. useR! is one of the most fun conferences I've attended.
Thanks again!

Hi,
I can't find the package for LSA. When I try

It says file not found.
Is there an updated link?

DVR recorder how to resucue files
It looks like you've backuped an entire disk that might contain partitions.
So first check if you have partitions inside:
sudo fdisk -lu save.dd
If you have partitions inside, use the start offset of the partition to create a loopback device (e.g. a partition starts at 56):
sudo losetup -o $((56*512)) /dev/loop0 save.dd
Now you should be able to use the partition. First check and than

What exactly IS the winbind daemon?
Hi,
maybe this is a newbie-question, but ... here we go:
I read the documentation for winbindd several times now but didn't get
far. We run Samba as primary domain controller for several dozen
clients and over 3000 users and never used winbind, so my question is
quite simple:
What does winbind provide and when do i need it?
I assume that winbind is only used when i use samba as a client in

Saved EPS does not match screen when using bquote(.(i))
Here's a fairly minimal-case example in which the saved EPS does not match
the screen. The error comes when using bquote(.(i)) instead of bquote(1), as
demonstrated by the two minimally different cases below. Very strange. Any
clues as to why?

Struggle with Postfix/Dovecot-auth and SASL
Hi List,
I just updated an old sendmail installation to a modern postfix/dovecot system with mysql backend. Everything works fine but SMTP-AUTH fails with some clients.
The problem is, that with PLAIN (old) clients send the base64 coded form: USERNAME\0USERNAME\0PASSWORD which, as i understand dovecot interprets as MASTERUSER\0USERNAME\PASSWORD. New clients send \0USERNAME\0PASSWORD which works

Is that a method where a program that I write today would still run without changes in 10 years?

FW: is.weekend() odd behaviour
Kurt,
Uwe suggested I write to you as maintainer of chron ... at the start of
is.weekend, in the check on the argument type, maybe just change chron() to
as.chron()? This would ensure as.chron.POSIXt gets called on POSIXt
arguments, and (I think) fixes the problem. I tested and it seems ok. No
warning/error required.

Running R2WinBUGS on Linux using Wine
Hello all
(1) My departmental IT guru has installed the latest Wine (0.9.48) on a
well maintained Fedora 7 server, so that I can run WinBUGS from R via
R2WinBUGS (this seems like the only real option for running BUGS from R
on a Linux platform?)
(2) WinBUGS seems to run okay, except for the following output errors:

We were also able to reproduce the issue on Windows Server 2012. If there's anything we can do to help please let me know; Elliot Waingold (CC'd here) can provide access to the VM we used for testing if that's of any help.

bug in det using method="qr" (PR#1244) (PR#4450)
I just detected, that det() is not working on complex matrices any more,
due to the fix to the bug reports noted above. I am not happy with this,
as determinants are perfectly usable on complex matrices.
AFAIUI the bugs resulted from less than optimal behaviour of qr() in
certain cases. IMHO this is due to the unhappy decision to use a default for
parameter tol to decide whether the the
