P values in non linear regression and singular gradients using nls
Dear all, We are trying to fit a non linear model to dispersal data. It seems that sometimes when the fit of the model of the data is not very good we start getting singular gradient errors. However if we modify slightly the data this won't occurr. We have also tried changing the initial parameter values and the algorithm for fitting in nls but didn't help. So we ended up programming a

can we include nonparametric component for survival regression?
i am trying to fit a survival regression model (cox model or parametric model) in R by including the covariate effects as a function m(x) instead of just beta*x. is it possible to fit such a model? can someone recommend some reference? I searched but only found a package called addreg where the hazard is actually modeled additively. That is not what i want. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Is formula(data.frame) documented?
The Examples section of 'unstack' includes: formula(PlantGrowth) # check the default formula I wanted to add a formula to my own data.frame (for unstacking), so I start looking: ?formula # Nothing here about adding a formula to data attr(PlantGrowth, "formula") # Nothing here--c.f. groupedData objects dput(PlantGrowth) # Hmm, no formula here either ?formula.data.frame

R developers, Last week I asked several questions which I think I can now answer myself in large part. > > Q 1) Is aov supposed to avoid qr decomposition and matrix inversion? > In S it is claimed to be faster than lm() for large datasets. [RFC] New Clang target selection options for ARM/AArch64
Hi Manoj, I tried a few other options myself: * function 'target' attribute - the list of extensions this supports isn't complete and it doesn't enable the ACLE macros needed for intrinsics * manually defining ACLE macros - this allows intrinsics and is additive but assumes that you're not relying on codegen to emit instructions. I don't think it helps the bug linked

[RFC] New Clang target selection options for ARM/AArch64
Hi Manoj, Not too late at all, we have not got to that point of the work yet. Are there examples of this kind of build setup that are available publicly? I think I understand the problem but it'd help to see one in action. To see if there are any other Arm extensions that are already being added like this and whether those systems support GCC and how. Thanks, David Spickett.

RPM Compatibility
It is my understanding that RPMs built for RHEL 4 are suppose to be compatible with Centos 4.1. How about ones built for Fedora 3 or 4? I thinking mainly about add-on programs that are not part of the core package.

thanks again for your sharp eye and speedy response. i have corrected the typos in the IP in the masq file. I am sorry to have to ask for more help but my pc''s on the local network can''t reach the dmz webserver using the webserver''s local or Public IP address. include/exclude: I miss the point
Hi all, I thought I understand how include/exclude and their precedences work (I read the user guide about this), but I seem to miss something. I have 2 questions about this, separated by ====== Question 1: -------------- I want to exclude the "hidden" directories except some sub-dirs or files: .mybackup and its files) and the mozilla firefox bookmarks folder and its contents

'asymmetric span' for 2D loess?
Hello, I am interested in performing a 2D loess smooth on microarray data, i.e. log2 ratios on a 2D grid, using different spans in the horizontal and vertical directions (the immediate reason being that replicate spots are laid out in the horizontal direction). Is it possible to do this in R? Functions like loess(stats) seem to apply the same span for all predictors, which carries over to

Type II ANOVA for user-defined contrasts with covariates
I'm wondering if anyone would be able to help me out. I'm trying to use a type II ANOVA for a model with user-specified contrasts and covariates. I have two treatment groups and a control group. I'm comparing average treatment to controls and also between the two treatment groups, but I'm also looking to adjust for age and gender as covariates:

car::Anova - Can it be used for ANCOVA with repeated-measures factors.
Dear list, I would like to run an ANCOVA using car::Anova with repeated measures factors, but I can't figure out how to do it. My (between-subjects) covariate always interacts with my within-subject factors. As far as I understand ANCOVA, covariates usually do not interact with the effects of interest but are simply additive (or am I wrong here?). More specifically, I can add a covariate as

formula(CO2)
The formula attribute of the builtin CO2 dataset seems a bit strange: > formula(CO2) Plant ~ Type + Treatment + conc + uptake What is one supposed to do with that? Certainly its not suitable for input to lm and none of the examples in ?CO2 use the above.

[RFC] New Clang target selection options for ARM/AArch64
Hi, Below is a document detailing changes we'd like to make to Clang/LLVM to improve the usability of the target options for ARM and AArch64. To keep things simple the proposed changes are listed at the start and you can find the supporting examples at the end of the document. I look forward to your feedback. Thanks, David Spickett.
