Symbolic substitution in parallel; use infinity symbol?
I'd like to be able to modify axlab in (C) below so that 'Inf'
is replaced by the infinity symbol.
y <- rnorm(40)
breaks <- c(-Inf, -1, 1, Inf)
x <- cut(y, breaks=breaks)
plot(unclass(x), y, xaxt="n", xlab="")
## A: The following gives the axis labels "(-Inf, 1]", etc.
axis(1, at=1:3, labels=expression("(-Inf,-1]", "(-1,1]",

Weird operator behaviour
Hi,
I have a dataset called 'fish'. fish$Species returns extract 1. When I use
fish$Species != c("CRA","PHC"), i.e. I want all species except "CRA" and
"PHC", I get extract 2 which is blatantly wrong. Can anyone see what I'm
doing wrong?
Regards,
James

Superscripts and rounding
I am new to the world of R/programming so this may be a really easy question.
I thank you for your patience and help in advance
I would like the characters km^2 to be displayed on the plot subtitle as km
squared - two as a superscript.
I would also like to have the numbers from the data set for longitude and
latitude to be rounded to four decimal places.
Thank you.

Timeseries Data Plotted as Monthly Boxplots
Hello, I'm trying to develop a box plot of time series data to look at the
range in the data values over the entire period of record.
My data initially starts out as a list of hourly data, and then I've been
using this code to make this data into the final ts array.
# Read in the station list
stn.list <- read.csv("/home/kbennett/fews/stnlist3", as.is=T, header=F)

loop does not work
Hi,
I am new to R and am trying to do a loop but it seems not to run after one
turn.
What I want to do is subset my dataframe (extract one station and one day)
to calculate and store the maxima that can then be plotted.
I have an error message at the end of each loop:
Error: unexpected '}' in "}"
Here is my code:

Subsetting data frames without a loop
I KNOW this should be easy, but I'm stuck.
My data frame consists of multiple observations from each of a number of
stations, and what I would like to do is create another data frame that
contains all the variables of the first, but only rows where a certain
variable is at its maximum for the station.
So, for example:
> my.df
stn obs v
1 1 1 0.26400396
2 2 1

Trouble combining plotmath, bquote, expressions
I'm using R-2.6.2 on Fedora Linux 9.
I've been experimenting with plotmath.
I wish it were easier to combine expressions in plotmath with values
from the R program itself. There are two parameters in the following
example, the mean "mymean" and standard deviation "mystd". I am able
to use bquote to write elements into the graph title like
mu = mymean
and R will

Downloading tab separated data from internet
Hi all,
I am trying to download some tab separated data from the internet. The data
is not available directly at the URL that could be known apriori. There is
an intermediate form where start and end dates have to be given to get to
the required page.
For example, I want to download data for a station 03015795. The form for
this station is at:

Linker Option support for ELF
We use .note descriptors with ELF on OpenVMS. We have self-describing
entries with tags and lengths. The compiler encodes stuff for the
linker such as compiler version, compilation date-time, module name,
final severity of the compilation, etc. The linker itself then
adds/modifies the .note entries to insert linker version, link
date/time, etc. We also use .notes to record floating point

pdb_new_rid: Failed to find unused RID
We are getting the following error trying to add new samba users or machines:
pdb_new_rid: Failed to find unused RID
Does this have something to do with idmap?
The following command shows a big jump in ID numbers with the last ones having
the same number repeated.
pdbedit -L | awk -F: '{print $2 " " $1 ":" $3}' | sort -n

ArtDio IPF-2000 or Sipura SPA-841
I am looking at some lower cost phone to use with Asterisk. What is the
ArtDio IPF-2000 or the Sipura SPA-841 like? Also, I see voipsupply.com has
an ArtDio IPF-1000 listed, is this a new or an old model? I cannot find
any information on it.

ipf question
Hello.
I am a relatively new FreeBSD user. I have samba, ssh and vnc server running
on it. I am also trying to set up the IPFILTER on it. I used the handbook to
familiarize myself with the software and the sample script provided in the
chapter discussing ipf, I decided to use as a starting point. After reading
the ipf chapter I assumed that if "block in log first quick on xl0 all" is

RE: [Xen-ia64-devel] [IPF] Xen3.0.3 RC3 can not create VTI_domain
This issue only happened on creating VTI domain in IPF platform.
Creating IA32 or IA32E VMX domain is okay.

[LLVMdev] [AArch64] Should we restrict to the pointer type used in ldN/stN intrinsics?
Hi,
The ldN like intrinsics (including all the ld1xN, ldN, ldNlane, ldNr, stN,
stNlane) can use any pointer types. The definition (in IntrinsicsAArch64.td)
of such intrinsics use 'LLVMAnyPointerType', which means we can pass any
pointer type to such intrinsics.
E.g. I tried following case ld2.ll:
define { <4 x i32>, <4 x i32> } @test(float* %ptr) {
%vld2 = call {

Iterative Proportional Fitting, use
Hi list,
I would like to normalize a matrix (two actually for comparison) using
iterative proportional fitting.
Using ipf() would be the easiest way to do this, however I can't get my
head around the use of the function. More specifically, the margins
settings...
for a matrix:
mat <- matrix(c(65,4,22,24,6,81,5,8,0,11,85,19,4,7,3,90),4,4)

ipf stopped working on 5.3
I've had ipf working on a few 5.3 servers for quite awhile. Not too long ago
some developers had to do some coding work and were coming from dynamic
IP's. I (reluctantly) opened up SSH to the world. Immediately I started
seeing the attacks where bots of some sort would try to break in with a
variety of different users.
So, I (thought) I closed it up again and told the developers to use a
