Type I SS and Type III SS problem
Dear all: I m a newer on R.? I have some problem when I use?anova function.? I use anova function to get Type I SS results, but I also need to get Type III SS results.? However, in my code, there is some different between the result of Type I SS and Type III SS.? I don?t know why the ?seqe? factor disappeared in the result of Type III SS.? How can I do?? Here is my example and result.

Dear All: I need to have some data frame objects. First aa object: pH Formulation time Subject [1]1.2 F 0 1 [2]7.4 S 1 2 [3] MF 2 3 [4] 3 4 [5] n i Then, I need to produce 2*3(pH*formulation) different tables. This table includes column of (pH, Formulation, time S1 S2 S3 ?K..Si) and S1=

how to find and use specific column after spliting dataframe
Dear all: I am a new R-user and I have 2 questions about it. 1) I need to find specific sub-dataframe, and then use specific column to calculate. For example, after splitting dataframe, I find specific the sub-dataframe, such as ?A.split [1]?. But, I don?t know how to find ?time? and ?concentration? columns of ?A.split [1]?. 2) The equation used to sub-dataframe is

Regression line does not show on scatterplot
Hello, I have done a scatterplot and now would like to add its regression line but it does not show. Below, the code I have used. lm3 <- lm(data$S_pH_KCl2.5_BCx~data$B_OleicoPF_BCx_per) plot(data$S_pH_KCl2.5_BCx, data$B_OleicoPF_BCx_per) abline(lm3) I have been able to do the complete operation using the software STATISTICA but it would be great to do it with R. If you require more details

poly() in lm() leads to wrong coefficients (but correct residuals)
Dear all, I am using poly() in lm() in the following form. 1> DelsDPWOS.lm3 <- lm(DelsPDWOS[,1] ~ poly(DelsPDWOS[,4],3)) 2> DelsDPWOS.I.lm3 <- lm(DelsPDWOS[,1] ~ poly(I(DelsPDWOS[,4]),3)) 3> DelsDPWOS.2.lm3 <- lm(DelsPDWOS[,1]~DelsPDWOS[,4]+I(DelsPDWOS[,4]^2)+I(DelsPDWOS[,4]^3)) 1 and 2 lead to identical but wrong results. 3 is correct. Surprisingly (to me) the residuals

“Check” problem
Dear all: I ?m a newer. I have some problem when I check my package. The error messages were as follows. It shows that the problem is about Rd file. How can I find where the error is? How can I do?? c:\temp>Rcmd check bear * checking for working pdflatex ... OK * using log directory 'c:/temp/bear.Rcheck' * using R version 2.7.0 (2008-04-22) * using session charset: CP950 *

Is this correct?
I have to answer the following question for a homework assignment. A researcher was interested in whether people taking part in sports at university made more money after graduating, taking into account the students' GPA. They sampled 200 alumni from a large university. The variables are: income (income 10 years after graduating), sports (1 if they did sports, 0 if they did not), and GPA (the

error message in simulation
Dear R-users, I am a dentist (so forgive me if my question looks stupid) and came across a problem when I did simulations to compare a few single level and two level regressions. The simulations were interrupted and an error message came out like 'Error in MEestimate(lmeSt, grps) : Singularity in backsolve at level 0, block 1'. My collegue suggested that this might be due to my codes

Anova Type II and Contrasts
the study design of the data I have to analyse is simple. There is 1 control group (CTRL) and 2 different treatment groups (TREAT_1 and TREAT_2). The data also includes 2 covariates COV1 and COV2. I have been asked to check if there is a linear or quadratic treatment effect in the data. I created a dummy data set to explain my situation: df1 <- data.frame( Observation =

Help needed in interpreting linear models
Dear members of the R-help list, I have sent the email below to the R-SIG-ME list to ask for help in interpreting some R output of fitted linear models. Unfortunately, I haven't yet received any answers. As I am not sure if my email was sent successfully to the mailing list I am asking for help here: Dear members of the R-SIG-ME list, I am new to linear models and struggling with

'singular gradient matrix’ when using nls() and how to make the program skip nls( ) and run on
Dear friends. I use nls() and encounter the following puzzling problem: I have a function f(a,b,c,x), I have a data vector of x and a vectory y of realized value of f. Case1 I tried to estimate c with (a=0.3, b=0.5) fixed: nls(y~f(a,b,c,x), control=list(maxiter = 100000, minFactor=0.5 ^2048),start=list(c=0.5)). The error message is: "number of iterations exceeded maximum of

Large discrepancies in the same object being saved to .RData
Hi developers, After some investigation I have found there can be large discrepancies in the same object being saved as an external "xx.RData" file. The immediate repercussion of this is the possible increased size of your .RData workspace for no apparent reason. The function and its three scenarios below highlight these discrepancies. Note that the object being returned is exactly

DIfference between weights options in lm GLm and gls.
Dear R-List users, Can anyone explain exactly the difference between Weights options in lm glm and gls? I try the following codes, but the results are different. > lm1 Call: lm(formula = y ~ x) Coefficients: (Intercept) x 0.1183 7.3075 > lm2 Call: lm(formula = y ~ x, weights = W) Coefficients: (Intercept) x 0.04193 7.30660 > lm3 Call:

Speed up computing: looping through data?
Dear all, Please excuse my ignorance, but I am having difficulty with this, and am unable to find help on the website/Google. I have a series of explanatory variables that I am aiming to get parsimony out of. For example, if I have 10 variables, a-j, I am initially looking at the linear relationships amongst them: my.lm1 <- lm(a ~ b+c+d+e+f+g+h+i+j, data=my.data) summary(my.lm1) my.lm2

plotting issues with PCA
Hi Listers, This has a simple answer but it has been eluding me nonetheless. I have been building a PCA plot from scratch with the ability to plot predefined groups in different colors. This has worked fine but when I try to get a polygon drawn around each of the groups it is not recognising my colour file correctly and is only printing the first colour in the file....code is below
