Pointwise division of two zoo objects?
Just trying to create returns from prices, and do something like: returns.z = tail(prices.z,-1)/head(prices.z,-1) - 1 # should be equivalent to returns = exp(diff(log(prices.z))) - 1 Curiously, I get a zoo object back with zeros everywhere and also with the index having one fewer element than it should. Does anyone know how to pointwise divide zoo objects, and what exactly "/" is

bootstrap based confidence band
I'm trying to find a bootstrap based confidence band for a linear model. I have created a data set with X and Y X=runif(n,-1.25,1.25) e=rnorm(n,0,1) Y=exp(3*X)+5*sin((30*X)/(2*pi))+2*e fit=lm(Y~X) summary(fit)   I define a bootstrap function named PairedBootstrap which is not listed here. Than I try many ways to find the confidence band. One way is to predict Y using the model I get above for

use of predict() with confidence/prediction bands
To my understanding, a confidence interval typically covers a single valued parameter. In contrast, a confidence band covers an entire line with a band. In regression, it is quite common to construct confidence and prediction bands. I have found that many people are connecting individual confidence/prediction interval values produced with predict(object,sd.fit=T,type="conf/pred") and

[R-pkgs] bpcp package for pointwise confidence intervals for a survival distribution
Hi all, I just uploaded a new version of the bpcp package. It calculates confidence intervals for a survival distribution for right-censored data using the newly developed beta product confidence procedure. Previously developed methods can have substantial error rate inflation for the lower limit, especially at the right end of the curves when there are small numbers of events. The bpcp method

Definition of "wrapper"?
I think I more or less understand what a ?wrapper? is, but I?d like to hear how more experienced R users define it, and especially I'd like to know if there is a formal definition. In my reading, it seems like there are a fairly wide range of meanings, but they are all conceptually similar. I've looked in a couple of the classic R texts, the extensions and developers' manuals, and R

How can I avoid the warning messages when calling DAAG package?
Dear R users, I'm a newbie for R and want to ask some basic questions. So, after I open the R software, I typed library(DAAG). Then, I get massive warning messages as shown below. Why does it happen? Also, here are few specific questions regarding each message. 1) Loading required package: MASS -> Does this mean that the MASS package is not included in DAAG? 2) Attaching package:

Where are usages like "== 2L" documented?
Gurus: I keep seeing other people?s code that contain ideas like If (x == 2L) X[-1L] X - 1L I have some idea of what?s going on, but where is the use of concepts like ?2L? documented? Package HiveR 0.1-4 Released
I am pleased to announce the first release of HiveR, a package to draw 2D and 3D Hive Plots. It's currently on CRAN and on it's way to a mirror near you. Hive plots are a unique method of displaying networks of many types in which node properties are mapped to axes using meaningful properties rather than being arbitrarily positioned. The hive plot concept was invented by Martin

xyplot {lattice} are different types possible for each panel?
Hello R Folks... Using the example below, I¹d like two of the panels to be plotted with type = ³p² but the third to be done with type = ³h². I can¹t use type = c(³p², ³p², ³h²) because this syntax applies all given types to every panel. I don¹t think I can use groups and distribute.type because these are intended for different styles of plotting within a single panel. As you can see, I tried

How to write a loop in R to select multiple regression model and validate it ?
I would like to run a loop in R. I have never done this before, so I would be very grateful for your help ! 1. I have a sample set: 25 objects. I would like to draw 1 object from it and use it as a test set for my future external validation. The remaining 24 objects I would like to use as a training set (to select a model). I would like to repeat this process until all 25 objects are used as a

ggplot2, building a simple formula interface
I?m trying to build a simple formula interface to work with a function using ggplot2. The following scheme ?works? up until the plot(p) request, at which point there are complaints about xlim?s and a blank graphics window. Looking at str(p) I do see the limits are NULL, plus layer 1 claims to have an empty data frame (but df is reproduced correctly). I'm sure I'm missing something really

Proper attribution in Authors@R for the d3.js library by Mike Bostock
I have a couple of packages that use the d3.js library developed (and copyrighted) by Mike Bostock. One package uses it extensively, another only for one function. I use R to piece together parts files containing JavaScript that I have written, which use d3.js functions and eventually the d3 library is called from a temporary web page. To date, I have pointed to Bostock's library in the Rd

rgl keyboard shortcut for translation on Mac?
Hello Everyone. I?m on a Mac, using rgl. Thanks to all the developers and maintainers on it! If I drag the mouse, I can rotate the view, if I hold down the option key or the ctrl key and drag, I get scaling (though at times I seem to alter the perspective?). Adding the shift key doesn't seem to modify anything. So, what I can't find is a key combination that translates the object.

k-folds cross validation with conditional logistic
--begin inclusion -- I have a matched-case control dataset that I'm using conditional logistic regression (clogit in survival) to analyze. I'm trying to conduct k-folds cross validation on my top models but all of the packages I can find (CVbinary in DAAG, KVX) won't work with clogit models. Is there any easy way to do this in R? -end inclusion -- The clogit funciton is simply a

Failure to get compactPDF to compact a pdf file
I am failing to get compactPDF to make any change to a pdf file that, a/c to the message from the CRAN upload site, can be very substantially compacted. Any ideas what may be wrong? I have also tried recreating the pdf file. I also tried R CMD build --resave-data --compact-vignettes DAAG The data files compact alright (but I get the 'significantly better compression' warning message
