Combining several plots besides a dendrogram?
Hello all, I would like to recreate the plot shown here (from a useR 2009 presentation): http://www.agrocampus-ouest.fr/math/useR-2009/abstracts/pdf/Hocking.pdf I downloaded the code for that image, and discovered that it relies on external web services, and also having PERL installed on the computer. I believe this could be done "locally" using the "seqLogo"

vertically stacked area plot?
Dear all, I would like to create a vertically stacked area chart in R. The data are presented in the attached text file. I would like to see the trend in values for the different groups with sediment depth (that's why I would like to create a vertically stacked chart; normally sed_depth should be = x, but I want it plotted on the y-axis). In the packages available to create stacked area

x-axis tick mark labels running vertically
I'm plotting obesity rates (y-axis) vs Public Health Unit (x-axis) for the province of Ontario and would like to have the Public Health Unit names appear vertically rather than the default, horizontally. I'm actually using the 'barplot2' function in the {gregmisc} library ... I haven't been able to find a solution in either the barplot2 options or the general plotting

boxplot: how to display x-labels vertically
Hi, I need to draw a boxplot for a dataset consisting about 60 groups, the problems is by default the x labels are drawn horizontally, so it is impossible to display the names of all 60 groups. However, if the labels are drawn vertically, it should be possible to display all names. How can this be done? Thanks. Steve [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Labeling a plot's x-axis with 12 strings, vertically oriented.
Hello, I really enjoy using R for my plotting. I have a modest plot, containing 24 data points, across 2 lines,12 points each. Ideally, the x-axis would be labeled with a series of strings, oriented vertically. Here is the R container holding the Search strings: > Search [1] Route To: NCENGR Status: Open CR Route To: NCENGR [3] Status: Cancel

Code works standalone, yet same code fails when part of package
Hi I'm missing something here but I cannot figure out what. What I can see is that the same code works when I load it via source(...) yet fails when I execute it after loading the package I have built (which includes the code. Below is a transcript of my R session. First I load the code from a file, using source(). Then I execute it fine. Then I remove the function object, I load the

Time for key stretching in encrypted private keys?
In 0.9.7 the private key encryption was switched from 3DES to AES, (https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1550) the motivation for this being that 128-bits of security is better than the 112 or so you get from 3DES these days. Interestingly that bug is about upgrading to AES-256, but we ended up with AES-128. Presumably due to the Solaris crippling? However ssh-keygen still uses a

Is there a function that print a string vertically (by adding "\n")?

vertically concatenating data frames
Hi, what is the recommended way to vertically concatenate 2 data frames with the same column names but different number of rows? My problem is something along these lines: df1 <- data.frame(var1=var1,var2=var2,var3=var3) # nrow(df1)=1000 df2 <- data.frame(var1=var4,var2=var5,var3=var6) # nrow(df2)=2000 I tried df <- c(df1,df2), no success. stack does not seem to be appropriate

Multiple lattice plots on a page: aligning x-axes vertically
Dear R-help, I am creating a two lattice plots (a densityplot() and xyplot()) that have the same x-axes and then 'printing' them onto the same page, one above the other (see end of email for an example to generate the graph). With different labels on the y-axis for each plot the left spacing is different, and the x-axes don't align vertically. Although I can manually modify the

vertically aligned X axis labels disappear off R Graphics window
Hi guys, I'm evaluating R for basic data exploration. I produce a bar plot of the data, with the x axis labels aligned vertically. However, the start of labels longer than about 10 characters are cut off by the bottom of the graphics window. I'd appreciate your help in properly spacing the space around a plot reserved for labels so that this problem can be avoided. Thanks, Richie

lattice: How to vertically adjust an axis label?
Dear expeRts, How can I vertically adjust an axis tick label so that it is nicely aligned with the other labels? library(lattice) xyplot(0~0, xlim=c(0,3), scales=list(x=list(at=c(1,1.1), labels=c(expression(hat(theta)[italic(n)]),expression(theta))))) ## aim: move the leftmost expression up so that theta is nicely aligned with the second theta. For the record: how to merge data frames vertically
Hello, to save searching time in the S-news archive, here is the simple solution to merge data frames vertically (cols must be equivalent, of course). The frames must be components of a list, such as produced by framelist<-split(bigframe,factor). bigframe2<-do.call("rbind",framelist) # posted to S-news by Bill Venables, found in summary message

Firefox distorted printing

Lattice stacked barplot vertical bars
Dear all, I have made a barplot using lattice in which the bars are stacked horizontally. I would like to stack them vertically, but if I use the parameter 'horizontal = FALSE' I get the error: 'Error in FUN(X[[i]], ...) : invalid 'type' (character) of argument'. The problem I face is that, in drawing the bars vertically, the y variable becomes numeric rather than

plot vertical labels along x axis
I know how to print my own labels along the x axis: plot(1:10,xlab = "My label", axes = FALSE) axis(1,at=seq(1,10,by=2),labels=c("first","second","third","fourth","fifth")) Is there a way to make the labels print vertically along the axis rather than horizontally? (I'm not sure if this is even going to look all right, but I
