properly restarting mongrel instances
Hi folks. Using mongrel_rails and the mongrel_cluster capistrano recipes, I often encounter a situation where some of the mongrel processes don''t die in time to be restarted. The output of capistrano will tell me something like "mongrel on port 8001 is already up", but that''s only because capistrano/mongrel_rails failed to take it down in the first place. The solution

mod_proxy, mongrel, redirect issue
Hello, I am configuring apache 2.2 to serve my rails app through mongrel at the root of my server. First, I redirect all http traffic to https with the following: ServerName emiliano NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> RedirectPermanent / https://emiliano #this server is only accessed internally </VirtualHost> Inside the <VirtualHost *:443> section, I have the following

Apache 2.2, ProxyPass and HTTPS
Hi all, I''m currently trying to get Mongrel running my app whilst fronted by apache 2.2 in a sub-directory via https. A bit convoluted I''ll grant you but necessitated by existing systems. The pertinent parts of my httpd.conf: <VirtualHost 123.123.123.123:12345> #historic choice of random port number DocumentRoot /var/www/admin ServerName admin.example.com:12345

New to RonR...
Hello, I''ll try to keep this short BUT, I''ve got little/no experience with programming. In fact, my only background is using Cold Fusion (since 1996 and VERY little of that for the past 5 years as I''ve been playing as a Manager-type at my jobs so I haven''t had to do any hands-on stuff for a while). My question: Would Ruby on Rails be a good platform to get

setting enviroment variable
I have a ror project which has been productized. There are several web sites in one ror project I need to set an "enviroment variable" to run different sites, can I do that using mongrel? I tried to use mongrel''s -S option and set the enviroment variable in that file but it seems mongrel runs that file after it calls enviroment.rb I also used apache''s

how can i set the default protocol of WEBrick to https?
On my server, stunnel is running to accept HTTPS (port 443) connection from clients and redirect them to localhost:80. And on port 80 of my server, WEBrick is running to accept HTTP connection. In such situation, WEBrick generates URLs beginning with ''http://'', not with ''https://''. So one can access to ''https://myserver/'', but when he click on

X-Forwarded-Proto / X_FORWARDED_PROTO
Eric, think I came across an issue with the parser in unicorn, with a request (due to 2 layers of nginx proxying) coming across with both a X_FORWARDED_PROTO and a X-Forwarded-Proto header. From the socket (in HttpRequest) - we get: X_FORWARDED_PROTO: http X-Forwarded-Proto: https which is parsed to HTTP_X_FORWARDED_PROTO"=>"http,https There was a passenger ticket that

uploading files via REST?
Hello, I am a bit confused by the REST syntax - how can I PUT an arbitrary file in the bucket? Downloading works fine (Perl+LWP), see below, but for PUT I only see this line in the docs (http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/rest_api.html): PUT /{environment}/file_bucket_file/md5/{checksum} Should I compute the MD5 of the file and port its contents at the url ? my code: my $ua =

Apache mod_proxy to mongrel
Hi Guys, I know this is slightly off topic, but it''d be great to get some feedback from anyone who''s using mod_proxy on Apache 2.2 to redircet to a rails app on mongrel. Everything has been running fine generally but a few days back we started getting a gap in the performance between the Apache port and the mongrel port. accessing through port 80 was averaging ten times longer

apache2.2 mod_proxy, mongrel, and my poor rails code
Hi mongrel-users, Just a heads up for apache2.2 mod_proxy + mongrel + rails users: If you have a line like this in your source (because you''ve done a poor job maintaining your code and reading the API docs): render ''foo'', :layout => ''bar'' You might expect it to do what it says... but it actually sets deprecated_status and ends up setting

Mongrel and proxying with Apache 2 mod_proxy
Hi all, I''ve just spent some time going through trying to get mongrel & apache 2.0 working with mod_proxy. I thought I''d share what I''ve found in case someone is going through the same exercise. Of late, I''ve been using mongrel (lovely, btw) to run my rails apps. Since I have a couple of different rails apps running on the machine, I thought it be nice to

Production deployment
Gang- We are getting ready to launch our ROR application; the last item remaining is the deployment platform. For testing, we had used Apache + MOD_FastCGI. I am not that impressed with it; sometimes it has strange effects. For example, when we start the application, for about 5 minutes or so, the app is very unstable and it gets better over time. My questions is .. should I go with (1)

But I am doing some mistakes because every time I'm receiving a loop error. Wierd timeout with apache mod_proxy
Hi I may have posted this in the wrong place: apologies if I have. I currently have a setup with Apache proxying requests to mongrels. Occassionally, in the apache logs I get an error that looks like [Tue Oct 30 12:00:28 2007] [error] (70007)The timeout specified has expired: proxy: pass request body failed to 127.0.0.1:8013 (127.0.0.1) from 213.205.247.171 () [Tue Oct 30 12:00:28 2007] [error]
