psychometric functions
Hi,
I want to fit some psychophysical data with cumulative gaussians. There is
quite a convenient toolbox for matlab called 'psignifit' (formerly known as
'psychofit'). It allows the lower bound of the sigmoid to vary slightly from
zero, aswell as the upper bound to vary from one. with these two free
parameters, the fitted function is less sensitive to noisy data and
outliers.

Tinn-R related problem
Greetings!
I have an issue with an R editor (namely Tinn-R). A few weeks ago all of a
sudden the backspace, enter and direction keys were not working. I updated
Tinn-R to the newest version but still no sollution. After this I tried
reinstalling it (prior to that I removed Tinn-R and deleted all the
"leftovers" manually) and still no change. In every other execution (e.g.

VAR-Estimation
Hi,
I want to estimate a VAR-model and calculate the impulse response function and a variance decomposition. I am familiar with standard R-functions, like e.g. arima. But I have not found equivalent functions to estimate a VAR-modell.
Are there any functions available or which R-package can I use to solve my problem?
Thank you for your help.

network-bridge - tg3 - no network
Hi,
i have some problems with xen-3.0.1 and the network-bridge script. After
''/etc/init.d/xend start'' or ''/etc/xen/script/network-bridge start''
everything works perfect (as well as the domU''s network) - but only for
a few seconds (~20s). After that the network seems to crash - no
outgoing or incoming connection possible.

orddom package for Ordinal Dominance Statistics
Dear R-users,
a new R package has been released named orddom.
This package provides ordinal estimates as alternatives to independent
or paired group mean comparisons, especially for Cliff?s delta
statistics. It provides basic parameters for various robust tests of
stochastic equality with ordinally scaled variables.
For two sets of data, ordinal comparison estimates are calculated such as

NoobyQ: how to work with a table of static lookup data??
Hello out there!
Nooby question: What''s the "Rails" way to work with tables of relatively
static lookup data?
Objectively (I''m thinking); I don''t want to hit the DB each time, so for
each lookup table, initialize a globally available hash with lable/value
pairs...
Am I on the right track?
How would you do this kind of thing in Rails?
Thanks!

Problem installing latest version of Wine to Ubuntu (8.10)
Hi, I am a nooby to Linux...I recently installed Ubuntu (8.10) to my PS3, in hopes of installing my Windows games (i.e. Steam, Call of Duty, etc.)...I've been researching linux applications that allow me to install Windows based applications, which is how I came across Wine...
I followed the step by step procedures on how to install the latest version of Wine to Ubuntu 8.10 from

pass by reference for S4
Hi all;
Is it possible to modify the "@" operator that it can handle references
(or external pointers)
of S4 Object instead of the real Objects?
Or is there any technical or compatibility issue which make it
impossible?
I look forward to hear from you and also hope that you don't hate me for
my nooby question.
Yours sincerely,

using ActiveLDAP with Rails?
Now I''m a ruby nooby so be gentle...
I''ve gotten ActiveLDAP working from the command line, but buggered if
I can work out how on earth to integrate an ActiveLDAP object with a
bunch of ActiveRecord objects.
This is going to be possible right? I''m just going to have to build
the whole scaffold myself for these objects?
Just thought I''d check whether it

symbolic matrix elements...
Normally, I do symbolics in Maple, or Mathematica, but I'm trying to
write a simple script for students to handle some *very* simple
calculations (for other purposes) with matrix or vector elements, where
the elements are coded symbolically. What I've tried with *partial"
success is use of the tilde (~) operator. So, for example, consider a
simple vector:

Timeout while waiting for lock for transaction log file
I have a user that gets client timeout errors when he tries to
delete/clean up his massive "Spam" folder (many thousands of mail messages).
He uses Thunderbird and has it configured to use "Move to Trash" when
he deletes messages.
I find the following in Dovecot's log file when it happens:

Authentication to Secondary Domain Controller initially fails when PDC is offline
Please don't post any sensitive information - even if I forget
sanitizing it.
This is probably the reason behind it: Our corporate DNS servers hold
info about our machines. This works together with DHCP. By registering
the machines I simply prevent any IP conflicts. My domain DNS has
nothing to do with it. In my domain members (Win clients and Linux
servers) only my DCs are set as DNS

How do I pass parameters to my program when using WINE?
Hello,
I'm trying to figure out the proper way of passing parameters to my program
that is being run by WINE. I've been trying different things I've found in
Google, but none have seemed to work yet. The parameters work in a Windows
environment, so I do believe the program is okay. This is on a SUSE/SLES 9
machine using WINE .917. If I want to pass the parameter
