Compiling R packages on Ubuntu
I am unable to compile R packages from source on Ubuntu
dapper/edgy. Does anybody have an experience?
When I do install.packages("nlme",depend=TRUE), I get following error messages. Can someone help?
I get similar messages for any package I try to compile.

F77_CALL, F77_NAME definition
I give up. Maybe it is my search (Windows) but I cannot seem to find the definition of the F77_CALL or F77_NAME macros. Either there are too many matches or the search just doesn't find it. For example where is the source for:
F77_CALL(dpotri)
?
Thank you.

Unexplained difference between results of dppsv and dpotri LAPACK routines
Dear R contributors,
Considering the following sample C code, that illustrates two possible
uses of a Cholesky decomp for inverting a matrix, equally valid at
least in theory:
SEXP test() {
int d = 2;
int info = 0;
double mat[4] = {2.5, 0.4, 0.4, 1.7};
double id[4] = {1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0};
double lmat[3];
F77_CALL(dpotrf)("L", &d, mat, &d, &info);
lmat[0] = mat[0];

Autoconf / Windows package building problem for device package
Dear list,
Tadashi Kadowaki has developed a pdf device package
that allows to add hyperlinks and popups
to (currently) text, mtext and rect calls.
The package passes R CMD check (minor warnings) and compiles
on MacOS X and GNU/Linux, but we do not succeed in building
the package for Windows.
The current version of the package can be
checked out as

Updating to nlme 3.1-62 failing from source (OS X)
R Version 2.1.1 (2005-06-20); R Cocoa GUI 1.12 (1622); Mac OS X
10.4.2 (8C46)
For nlme, the R package installer for CRAN (binaries) gives 3.1-60 as
Repository Version as well as Installed Version.
For CRAN (sources) it gives 3.1-62 as Repository Version and 3.1-60
as Installed Version.
When I try to update nlme, I get

Thanks Dirk,
Sorry about that, but my real question was (see below): "Is the problem
that openblas uses C versions of blas?" That is, do I need to change
F77_CALL(name)(...);
to
cblas_name(...);
everywhere? And if so, is

question about corStruct
dear list,
I am wondering if one can find examples and/or more detailed
descriptions of modifications needed when going beyond standard
corStruct classes (i.e. those already provided for use in lme/nlme)?
When I looked at pages 238-239 of Pinheiro/Bates (2000): Mixed-effects
models in S and S-plus, I found that I would need a bit more explicit
guidance what to do for implementing a new

Can't get F77_CALL(dgemm) to work [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Hi
I am new to writing C code and am trying to write an R extension in C. I
have hit a wall with F77_CALL(dgemm) in that it produces wrong results.
The code below is a simplified example that multiplies the matrices Ab and
Bm to give Cm. The results below show clearly that Cm is wrong.

If you are not sure whether you have observed a bug or not, it is a good
idea to ask on the mailing list R-Help by sending an e-mail to
r-help at stat.math.ethz.ch rather than submitting a bug report.
I'm wondering whether to submit a bug report on this:

How to extract the within group correlation structure matrix in "lme"
Dear R users,
I fitted a repeated measure model without random effects by using lme. I will use the estimates from that model as an initial estimates to do multiple imputation for missing values of the response variable in the model. I am trying to extract the within group correlation matrix or covariance matrix.
here is my code:
f = lme(y ~x0+x1+trt+tim+x1:tim +tim:trt,random=~-1|subj,

creating a new corClass for lme()
Hi,
I have been using the function lme() of the package nlme to model grouped
data that is auto-correlated in time and in space (the data was collected on
different days via a moving monitor). I am aware that I can use the
correlation classes corCAR1 and corExp (among other options) to model the
temporal and spatial components of the auto-correlation. However, as far as
I can tell, I can only
