Positioning of axis titles
Hi,
I have created a plot using filled.contour() and have the problem that
one of the axis titles and an axis label are overlapping. I have tried
changing par()$mgp (with, e.g. par(mgp=c(4,1,0)) ), but this just
makes the title go off the screen. I can't work out how to make the
plot take up less space in the window, so I can hopefully change mgp
and sort the problem. Is changing mgp the only

Possible to "import" histograms in R?
Hi,
I have a large amount of data that I would like to create a histogram of and
plot and do things with in R. It is pretty much impossible to read the data
into R, so I have written a program to bin the data and now have a list of
counts in each bin. Is it possible to somehow import this into R and use
hist(), so I can, for instance, plot the probability density? I have looked

Calculate the angles for a point dataset?
Dear Rusers,
I'd like to take the cases of cancer of the larynx in chorley(spatstat) to
explain my question.
I want to join the points of cancer of the larynx with the disused
industrial incinerator to generate lines, and then calculate the angles of
these line comparing the horizontal line?
How can i get it? It seems to be difficult to get the angles
Thanks a lot.

Hi, i have never really used R before and i need to produce a density curve
for use in an assignment. Following the instructions in the manual provided
with my course i keep getting this error message:
"Error in plot.xy(xy, type, ...) : invalid plot type '1'"
The commands i have entered are:
>x=seq(0, 1800, 10)

ON MAC, how to copy a plot on to Word document?
Yes, I don't know how to copy the plot on Mac and paste on to Word because
you can't right click on the graph and say "copy as metafile."
I'm so surprised I can't find any information about this anywhere on the
Internet...

How can I extract part of the data in a panel dataset?
Taking the Grunfeld data, which is built-in in R, for example,
(1)How can I construct a dataset (or dataframe) that consists of the data
of all firms in 1951?
(2)How can I calculate the average capital in each form over the period
1951-1954?
What I can imagine is to categorize the data by firm, and then select the
data between 1951 and 1954 for each firm, but how can I do it?
Thanks,
Miao

Regression query
Hi
I have a set of data with both quantitative and categorical predictors.
After scaling of response variable, i looked for multicollinearity (VIF
values)
among the predictors and removed the predictors who were hinding some of the
other significant
predictors. I'm curious to know whether the predictors (who are not
significant)
while doing simple 'lm' will be involved in

AR-GARCH with additional variable - estimation problem
Dear list members,
I am trying to estimate parameters of the AR(1)-GARCH(1,1) model. I have one
additional dummy variable for the AR(1) part.
First I wanted to do it using garchFit function (everything would be then
estimated in one step) however in the fGarch library I didn't find a way to
include an additional variable.
That would be the formula but, as said, I think it is impossible to add

covariate selection in cox model (counting process)
Hello everyone,
I am searching for a covariate selection procedure in a cox model formulated
as a counting process.
I use intervals, my formula looks like coxph(Surv(start, stop, status)~
x1+x2+...+cluster(id),robust=T) where id is a country code (I study
occurence of civil wars from 1962 to 1997).
I'd like something not based on p-values, since they have several flaws for
this purpose.

Ordinal categorical data with GLM
Hello All:
I am trying to replicate the results of an example found in Alan
Agresti's "Categorical Data Analysis" on pages 267-269. The example is
one of a 2 x 2 cross-classification table of ordinal counts: job
satisfaction and income.
I am able to get Agresti's results for the independence model (G^2 =
12.03 with df = 9) assuming as he does that the data is nominal, but

GeForce 6100 (NV4E) & nouveau regression in 3.12
Hi guys,
Last week I've switched from my old & good 3.4.63 to 3.14-rc1 and
noticed nasty display corruptions when using nouveau. It seems that
changing parts of the screen are appearing for a fraction of second in
random places. I've recorded this behavior:
