R memory issue for writing out the file
Hello, all, First thanks in advance for helping me. I am now handling a data frame, dimension 11095400 rows and 4 columns. It seems work perfect in my MAC R (Mac Pro, Intel Chip with 4G RAM) until I was trying to write this file out using the command: write.table(all,file="~/Desktop/alex.lgen",sep=" ",row.names=F,na="0",quote=F,col.names=F) I got the error

Bug in agrep computing edit distance?
I posted this yesterday to r-help and Ben Bolker suggested reposting it here... automation question
I have columns in two tables that need to be compared in order to get a statistic. The function calculating the statistic is somers2. Here are the two columns I must calculate, row by row. name1 name2 1 Pred_pres_a_indpdt[,3,,] population[,23] 2 Pred_pres_b_indpdt[,3,,] population[,24] 3 Pred_pres_c_indpdt[,3,,] population[,25] 4 Pred_pres_d_indpdt[,3,,]

silly, extracting the value of "C" from the results of somers2
Sorry I have a very simple question: I used somers2 function from Design package: > z<- somers2(x,y, weights=w) results are: >z C Dxy n Missing 0.88 0.76 500 0.00 Now I want to call only the value of C to be used in further analyses, but I fail to do it. I have tried: > z$C NULL > z[,C] Error in z[,C]: incorrect number of dimensions and some other silly

another automation question
This code works: x<-letters[1:6] ycols<-23:28 xcols<-rep(c(3,4,5,8),each=length(ycols)) somertime<-function(i,j)somers2(Pred_pres_a_indpdt[,i,,], population[,j]) results<-mapply(somertime,xcols,ycols) How can I make variable "h" work? x<-letters[1:6] ycols<-23:28 xcols<-rep(c(3,4,5,8),each=length(ycols))

Pseudo R^2 for logit - really naive question
I am using GLM to calculate logit models based on cross-sectional data. I am now down to the hard work of making the results intelligible to very average readers. Is there any way to calculate a psuedo analoque to the R^2 in standard linear regression for use as a purely descriptive statistic of goodness of fit? Most of the readers of my report will be vaguely familiar and more comfortable with

function problem
I have a series of columns that need to be evaluated in various tables. I need to apply a function in the following manner somers2(name1,name2). name1 is a vector of x inputs for the function which correspond to a vector of y inputs in name2. y<-rep(c(3,4,5,8),6) z<-rep(c(23,24,25,26,27,28),4) name1<-sprintf("Pred_pres_%s_indpdt[,%s,,]",x,y)

While installing Hmisc...
Dear R-Gurus: This afternoon I was installing the "Hmisc" package. I use R in Linux (Fedora Core 1 (yarrow)) on a Compaq presario with 128 MB RAM laptop. Opening an R session as a root user (superuser), I issued install.packages("Hmisc") and waited. R downloaded the package, installation was going on, and on the standard output I could see that a list of

weight factor in somers2 function
Hi! I?m trying to calculate de C index (concordance probability) through the somers2 function (library Hmisc). I?m interesting on including the sampling effort as a weight factor for the evaluation of model predictions with real data. I?ve some questions about that: first of all I?m not really sure if I can include sampling effort as a weight factor. Since the weight factor should be a numeric

savehistory in OSX version
Running Version 2.6.0 GUI 1.21. Generally, I enjoy working with the OSX GUI, which has some very pleasant features. Kudos to the developers! There is a nice history panel which slides out of the Console window. The buttons on the panel work as expected. I am puzzled by the behavior of history() and savehistory() run from the Console window. I would think that these functions would view and

mvbutils and trackObjs
Hello Colleagues, I've recently become a fan of Mark Bravington's mvbutils package for organizing analysis projects in a tree. Using cd(), Save(), fixr(), mlazy() etcetera solves nicely some of the nuisances that have worried or annoyed me and sometimes caused big problems over the years. Well thought out. Now one feature that would be fabulous would be automatic time-stamping of

lambda, uncertainty coefficient (& Somers D)
Dear colleagues in R, Has anybody implemented the 1) (Goodman & Kruskal) lambda or the 2) (Thiel's) uncertainty coefficient statistics (in the asymmetric and symmetric forms), or is anyone aware that they might reside in some package? A search in the R archives does indicate that they are (somehow) part of the CoCo package, but I would rather not start learning how to transform my

structural equation modeling
Dear R-help, I am interested in using structural equation modeling. Just getting started with it, but I'm looking for suggestions for packages. complex plots using layout()
Dear r-help, I am trying to plot several scatter plots with marginal histograms on one page. Ideally, a page is equally divided into 4 figure regions. Within each figure region, a scatter plot with marginal histograms will be plotted. I followed Dr. Paul Murrell's code released online to successfully plot the scatter plot with marginal histograms. The code applies "layout()" to

Installing a package yet it will not work.
I want R to read my Microsoft Access database or maybe even a Sybase database. I installed RODBC or at least thought I did. Then I issued the following command: library(RODBC) And got Error in lazyLoadDBfetch(key, datafile, compressed, envhook) : ReadItem: unknown type 241 In addition: Warning message: package 'RODBC' was built under R version 2.3.0 Error: package/namespace

space in column name
I read a table from Microsoft Access using RODBC. Some of the variables had a name with a space in it. R has no problem with it but I do. I cannot find out how to specify the space names(alltime) [1] "ID" "LVL7" "Ref Pv No" "Ref Pv Name" "DOS" "Pt Last Name" "Pt First Name" "MRN"

[GSoC] Add support for batch-testing to the LLDB testsuite.
Hi LLVM Developer Team, My name is Mark Babatunde and I'm a third year computer science student at the University of Pittsburgh. I was looking at the potential list of projects and the project regarding adding support for batch-testing to the LLDB testsuite caught my interest. I was wondering how I can get started and if I can get in contact with Jim Ingham. Best, Mark Mark Babatunde

making a plot in xyplot
Hello, I am a newbie to the lattice package in R, and I'm trying to make a plot using the xyplot function. I have repeated measures data (2 conditions) for two different groups of subjects (teens and adults). So far, I've made a basic graph using xyplot(y ~x, group=subnum, data=mydata, type="b"). Now I would like to make all the teens' lines one color and the adults'

How to change the type of segments ends?
Hi, I am trying to plot odds ratios and the corresponding confidence intervals in horizontal segments. It would be ideal if the confidence interval segment can be drawn with little vertical bars at both ends. I have tried very hard to change the type of ends by using 'lend' arguments, but cannot make it. I even tried 'arrows()', but still failed. Following is the code I use:

need help with renaming a variable
Hello. I am new to R, so my question/problem might be very basic, but I cannot figure out how to solve it. So, I would really appreciate your help. I would like to rename a variable in a very large file (181GB) called "2013.xdf" that is saved on my external hard drive. I tried running the following code to rename variable # 2 in the file and save this change, which produced some
