Problem in method's Makefile?
Hi there ... Not too long after the switch to using Subversion I tried to checkout & build R but encountered an error - and being short on time at that point put it off to look at later. So today I sat down again and was encountering this error every time I would attempt to build: dumping R code in package 'methods' Saving namespace image ... initializing class and method

Lazy-loading db setup in the R build process
Hi All, I have read the article on lazy-loading in the September R news letter, and think I have at least a vague grasp on what is happening. Am I right in thinking that, assuming I were using the same packages, I could copy the .rdb & .rdx files from one installation of R (2.0.0) to another? I ask this as I'm trying to cross-compile R (for ARM), and need to use R itself to perform the

I will paste a copy of the output from the makefile below. The problem was when the makefile tried to run the R binary. When I came across the error I reran configure, but this time with the following arguments:

(PR#9691) 'Bug'#424696: R CMD INSTALL -l <path> does not
I looked for evidence that this is supposed to happen, as it was news to me that it did on some versions of R. Possible sources of documentation seem to be R CMD INSTALL --help ?INSTALL R-intro.texi, R-exts.texi, R-admin.texi none of which mention this AFAICS, and all seem to be written assuming an existing library tree. DId you find something to suggest otherwise? Clearly no alpha/beta

binary version of R 2.8.x
Hello, Is there any binary version of R 2.8.x available for x86 Solaris 10? I need it so that I can use some R library files. I actually tried to compile the source myself, but it failed. I don't know much about how to compile source files on Solaris, and it will be great if there is a binary version of R 2.8.x available. Thanks. /***error after running make***/ util.c: In function

unable to load shared library '/usr/local/lib/R/modules//R_X11.so'
Hi, I downloaded a binary version of R for my Solaris 10 box (from http://www.sunfreeware.com/programlistsparc10.html#R), and everything looked fine during the installation. However, I got a "X11 module cannot be loaded" error when I attempted to save a graph to be a png file. Does it look like a problem of the Solaris box or a problem of the installation (missing library file)?

building windows packages under wine/linux and cross-compiling.
Had some fun today, and thought it might be a good idea to share and possibly for inclusion to R/src/gnuwin32/README.packages . Wine/linux : while R, ActiveState Perl, mingw all works alright under wine, the blocking issue is Rtool's cygwin dependency. forking (as much of make and sh is forking sub-processes) on posix-on-win32-on-posix currently doesn't work.

Stop packages and datasets to be loaded on startup.
Hi. I would like to know how to start an embedded R session, and avoid datasets and the standard library packages to be loaded on startup. I've been looking at littler's code (so this is partly a question to Dirk Eddelbuettel...): > /* We don't require() default packages upon startup; rather, we > * set up delayedAssign's instead. see autoloads(). >

Can you, please, share exactly your setup - AIX version and well as how exactly you installed the compilers (=where from)? I can then try to replicate it. AFAICS there is no official binary for gfortran nor gcc 4.7 so it must be some 3rd party - which could also be a
