Rotate a plot, and subplot
Hi all, Is there a way to rotate a plot, e.g. a histogram, by a certain angle (90/180/270 degress)? I spent hours trying to figure out how this is done, but without success. Also, I'm looking for an equivalent to the S-Plus "subplot" command to insert a kind of "thumbnail" graphic into a bigger one. How is this best done in R? Thanks for your help Pascal

putting text in the corner
I want to write some text in a corner of my plot. Is it possible to get the xlim and ylim of an open window? Or is there anything similar like legend(x="bottomright", inset=0.01,legend=...) for text(x=1,y=2, "test") Thomas

subplot strange behavoir
Hello, Below is some example code that should reproduce an error I'm encountering while trying to create a tiff plot with two subplots. If I run just the following bit of code through the R GUI the result is what I'd like to have appear in the saved tiff image: x<-seq(0:20) y<-c(1,1,2,2,3,4,5,4,3,6,7,1,1,2,2,3,4,5,4,3,6) plot(x,y,type="l",las=1,ylim=c(0,12))

gridBase and new.page() / grid.newpage()
Hello all, I'm trying to write a function using the gridBase package. I'd like to push several base subplots to a larger plot constructed with grid. However, I'm having trouble getting consistent results when running the function when the plotting window (quartz) is closed, when it is left open and the plot function is repeated to the same window, and when the output is saved to a

Trouble with gridBase and inset plots
Dear All, I ma having a trouble in generating a figure containing 3 insets with the gridBase package. I always get an error message of the kind: Error in gridPLT() : Figure region too small and/or viewport too large No matter which parameters I choose. The plots works nicely with two insets only, but when I try adding the third one, my troubles begin. I am probably doing something wrong in the

figure with inset
I am trying to plot a figure within a figure (an inset that shows a closeup of part of the data set). I have searched R-help and other sources but not found a solution. What I would like to do is (1) produce a plot (2) specify a window that will be used for the next plot (in inches or using the coordinate system of the plot produced in (1) (3) overlay a new plot in the window specified under (2)

subplot (Hmisc) and radial.plot (plotrix) problem
Folks, I am having problems with a plot I want to create to give an impression of changes in an ordinal scale measure (1-5) at three time points (0, 14 and 21 days). I can produce a radial plot of bare vectors but getting this to appear on the base plot is not possible as it always seems to end up below the plot area and even outside the plot window. It seems I have not understood

Multiple plots in one subplot
Hi, I making a figure with six sub-plots using par(mfcol=c(2,3)). In the last sub-plot I want to have two graphs instead of one. I have tried using par(fig=x,y,z,v) but this par seems to overwrite the first par. Is there a simple solution? Thanks! Updating R on an old Linux installation (was: Where is package gridBase?)
I am running R 2.2.1 on a University-supported linux installation based on Redhat EL3. I am sorry that it did not occur to me to mention this before; I updated R very recently, with the most recent version available for EL3 at http://cran.cnr.berkeley.edu/bin/linux/redhat/el3/. Looking at the gridBase documentation, I find that 2.2.1 is not in fact the most recent version. I have now spent

nested, repeated measure lme
Dear all, Suppose I have a nested, repeated measure lme model. Which of the following formulae is correct? (assuming data are sampled from several plots in an agricultural experiment) (1) y~explanatory.variables,random=~time|block/plot/subplot/individual (2) y~explanatory.variables,random=~time|unique.ID.of.every.individual I have read that (2) is the only approach that works. But how could I

[FORGED] Different results based on the order of arguments to par
Paul, I was trying to make a minimal self contained example, but I guess I went too far on the minimizing. The original problem came from code more like: library(TeachingDemos) hist(rexp(1000), main='') abline( v=1, col='red') sp.par <- subplot(hist(rnorm(100), main=''), x='topright') op <- par(sp.par[c('usr', 'plt')]) abline(v=0,

Is there an alternative to subplot() of splus
Dear R-gurus, Is there any function in R does the same thing as function subplot()in Splus? I am trying to post a pie chart onto the top right hand corner of existing bar chart. Also, Does anyone know if I can use paste() to paste the graph to another graph? Cheers, Carla Chen

Subplot.
Hello All, I wanted to do many plots (in my case, wanted to get 6 histograms) on the same figure. Is there a method in R that analogous to 'subplot' in MATLAB? Any help will be very much appreciated. thanks, Suman [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

inset one map on top of another map
I want to overlay a small inset map on top of another map, but I can't figure out how to do it. For example, here are two different maps: # map 1 - Ohio map("state", region= "ohio") # map 2 - US with Ohio darkened map("state") map("state", region="ohio", fill=T, add=T) I would like to add map 2 as a small inset in the corner of map 1. limit to complex plots?
Hello all. I am trying to create one figure, divided into 6 graphs/plots each with an inset sub-figure. I can use to layout command to generate one figure with one inset sub-figure, but cannot seem to do it for multiple figures on one page. I've tried a test with the following code: layout(matrix(c(1,2,3,4), nrow=2, byrow=TRUE)) plot(rnorm(10), rnorm(10)) plot(rnorm(10), rnorm(10))

nested, unbalanced anova
Hello, For an experiment, I selected plots of land within a forest either with honeysuckle or without honeysuckle. Thus, my main factor is fixed, with 2 levels: "honeysuckle present"(n=11) and "honeysuckle absent"(n=8). Within each plot of land, I have a "trenched" subplot and an "untrenched" subplot. Within each subplot of every plot, I measured soil

Bubble plot pie chart map
Hello, I am currently trying to show the abundance of two species of zooplankton within the North Sea as pie chart bubble plots. I followed Werner Wernersen's advice in R help (http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/48644.html) and used Paul Murrell's paper "Integrating Grid Graphics Output with Base Graphics Output" (in R News) to try and do this (using the gridBase
