Percent damage distribution
R version: 2.7.0
Running on: WinXP
I am trying to model damage from fire losses (given that the loss occurred).
Since I have the individual insured amounts, rather than sampling dollar
damage from a continuous distribution ranging from 0 to infinity, I want to
sample from a percent damage distribution from 0-100%. One obvious solution
is to use runif(n, min=0, max=1), but this does not seem to be

Testing for Inequality à la "select case"
Using R 2.7.0 under WinXP.
I need to write a function that takes a non-negative vector and returns the
parallell maximum between a percentage of this argument and a fixed value.
Both the percentages and the fixed values depend on which interval x falls
in. Intervals are as follows:
>From | To | % of x | Minimum

Same initial seed
Hello,
I have tried a few searches without luck before posting, since this one
seems a pretty basic question.
I am using R 2.7.0 on WinXP, as I have long started using this version for
my thesis work and am reluctant to update fearing consistency/backward
compatibility issues could happen.
I noticed that whenever I start an R session (launch the console
application) and run a script involving

Packages - a great resource, but hard to find the right one
There have been several constructive responses to John Sorkin's
comment, but none of them are fully satisfactory. Of course, if you
know the name of the function you are looking for, there are lots of
ways to search — provided that everyone calls the function by a name
that matches your search. If you think there might be a function,
but you don't know the name, then you have

Computing ergodic mean with CODA
Hi all,
I would like to compute ergodic mean using MCMC output from WinBUGS. I
tried using CODA package, but it seems that it is not implemented yet.
Could anyone help me to compute this? Attached to this email are my
output and index files.
Kind regards,
Raquel

Dear useRs,
Over the last few years R has gained a significant momentum in the
insurance industry. Dedicated packages have been written, numerous

departments convinced. ;-)
Therefore, together with Markus Gesmann of Lloyd's of London, we

Encontrar un dato y añadirlo a otra columna
Con parse_number sacaria todos los numeros de la columna,
pero lo que busco es sacar solo los que empiezan por AV y descartar el resto.
De todas maneras muchas gracias, le voy a dar otra vuelta.

Plugging in a hard drive after Solaris has booted up?
Hi guys,
I have a quick question, I am playing around with ZFS and here''s what I did.
I created a storage pool with several drives. I unplugged 3 out of 5 drives from the array, currently:
NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
gpool UNAVAIL 0 0 0 insufficient replicas
raidz1 UNAVAIL 0 0 0 insufficient replicas

--quiet flag sets echo option to TRUE (PR#1083)
The help for options says:
echo: logical. Only used in non-interactive mode, when it controls
whether input is echoed. Command-line options `--quiet' and
`--slave' set this initially to `FALSE'.
I don't think that this is correct for me.
Consider the following session:
mica|junk> ls

The first time I tried to run Adobe Illustrator 7 under wine it worked fine

AIRes.dll is right where it's supposed to be. Any ideas?

ZINB multi-level model using MCMCglmm
Hi,
I am Olga Viedma. I am running a Zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) multi-level model using MCMCglmm package. I have a doubt. Can I use the "Liab" outputs as fitted data, instead of the predicted values from "predict"? The liab outputs fit very well with the observed data, whereas the predicted values are so bad.
Thanks in advance,
Olga Viedma
