More files randomly corrupted
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Still having that problem with samba seemingly corrupting files, it seems to be the same files that are corrupted again and again, yet they are corrupted differently and sometimes not. I ran my md5 summer against one file ch02.pdf, and it almost contineously corrupts, I checked in a hex editor and there are some differences. Yet the problem is that

Putting demo shell scripts, text files, and RScript files with a package?
I've written a package to assist with using R in Hadoop Streaming.
The main point of the package is to help make command-line runnable
RScript files. I'd like to provide a demo RScript file, a demo data
file (e.g. a plaintext file, not something already processed by R) ,
as well as demo bash shell scripts that demonstrate how to run the job
from the command line and in a Hadoop

Variance Components in R
Hi,
I'm trying to fit a model using variance components in R, but if very
new on it, so I'm asking for your help.
I have imported the SPSS database onto R, but I don't know how to
convert the commands... the SPSS commands I'm trying to convert are:

Question concerning "pastecs" package
Hi
I just installed the pastecs package and I am wondering: is there an
english (or german) translation of the file pastecs.pdf? If not, is
there an explanation somewhere of the object of type 'turnpoints' as a
result of turnpoints(), especially the "info" field?
Thanks,
Rainer

ARMA(1,1) for panel data
Dear List,
I am new to TS-Modeling in R. I would like to fit an ARMA(1,1) model
for a balanced panel, running Y on a full set of unit and year dummies
using an arma(1,1) for the disturbance:
y_it=unit.dummies+yeardummies+e_it
where: e_it=d*e_it-1+u_it+q*u_it-1
How can I fit this model in R? arma() does not seem to take covariates
(or I don't understand how to specify the function so that

[OT] good reference for mixed models and EM algorithm
Dear R People:
Sorry for the off-topic. Could someone recommend a good reference for
using the EM algorithm on mixed models, please?
I've been looking and there are so many of them. Perhaps someone here
can narrow things down a bit.
Thanks in advance,
Sincerely,
Erin

Registration
Hi,
I have a question to post. But I have a problem finding the appropriate
forum. Some of the FAQ on pastecs are answered by
R-help@stat.math.ethz.chmailing list. I searched to see if this
mailing list requires registration
or not. There was no information about that. I am a registered member of R-
help general mailing list but I am aware it is better to post my question to

Turning points in a series
Good morning once more. My problem of yesterday has been addressed. Having
learned a few tricks from that, I wish to ask another question in connection
with that. My data is a cosmic ray data consisting of dates and counts. When
I plot a graph of counts versus dates, the resultant signal shows a number
of maximum and minimum points. These minimum points (turning points) are of
interest to me.

"False convergence" in LME
I tried to use LME (on a fairly large dataset, so I am not including it), and I got this error message:
Error in lme.formula(formula(paste(c(toString(TargetName), "as.factor(nodeInd)"), :
nlminb problem, convergence error code = 1
message = false convergence (8)
Is there any way to get more information or to get the potentially wrong estimates from LME?

lme function
Hello.
As advised by Mick Crawley in his book on S+, I'm trying to use the lme
function to examine a linear relationship between two variables measured at
60 locations in 12 sites, while taking account of any spatial
autocorrelation (i.e. similarity in variation between the two variables that
is due to site). I am using the function as follows:

problem with the plm package (2)
Thanks a lot for the quick answerd I received and that helped me to
solve my first (simple) problem with the plm package.
Unfortunatley, here's another one:
I do not know why, but I'm unable to estimate a simple model in the
form y ~ 1 + x
When I try
> zz <- plm(y ~ 1 + x , data=mydata)
I obtain

Unpaste Problem
Hello,
Easy ways to "unpaste"?
xp <- paste(x2, x3) # x2, x3 are two non-numeric columns.
.............
.........................
xfg <- data.frame(xp,sc1, sc2, sc3) # sc1,sc2, sc3 are numeric cols.
I want xp to be split up to form a new dataframe of the form (x3, sc1,
sc2, sc3).
IMPORTANT info : elements of xp have the form abc<space>efg, with abc
in x2 and efg in

date conversions in pastecs
In function daystoyears in package pastecs, I get this (wrong?) result
with 1995:

1997.001
> daystoyears(1,datemin="1/1/1995",dateformat="m/d/Y")
1994.999
Any insights?
Thanks

How to make a raster image in R from my own data set
Hi R-user,
I was trying to make a raster map with WGS84 projection in R, but I could not make it. I found one data set in Google that data is almost the same format as of mine. I wanted to make a raster map of temperature with 1 degree spatial resolution for the global scale.
I could make it in GIS software but I do have many variables (to be many raster images) and ultimately I am importing them

SVN migration status
It looks like the Subversion migration is working. The CVS repository
is still there, but in read-only mode. However, the SVN repository
preserves the version history of the CVS repository, albeit organized
slightly differently.
For an introduction to Subversion, this online book is essential:

It is written by some of the Subversion authors. The only drawback I

where is "average shifted histogram"?
Hello!
In the book Modern Applied Statistics with S (4th ed),
section 5.6 the concept of the "average shifted
histogram" or ASH is mentionend. Also it is mentioned
in the same section "The code used is in the scripts
for this chapter" (from figure caption 5.8, analysis
of the geyser duration data).
*However*, I have trouble finding the code for that
function! Admittedly, I am a

Turnpoints
Good evening to everybody. I have a data of four columns - three of the
columns represent date while the fourth is counts. Setting 4000 as my
minimum point/value, I wish to find out the number of counts that are less
or equal to 4000 and the dates they occur. I have installed pastecs and have
been trying to use turnpoints function to do this. I have not been much

how to make a table of summary statistics
Dear R-listers,
I am a newbie with R and I am struggling with something I consider very
basic. I wish to produce a table (to import in a latex file) of summary
statistics, but for as much as I've been looking around and trying various
alternatives (plyr, reporttools, pastecs and Hmisc) I haven't found what I
am looking for. Probably I am doing something wrong, but I can't figure out
