Testing memory limits in R??
Hello Everyone,
We have recently purchased a server which has 64GB of memory running
a 64bit OS and I have compiled R from source with the following config
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/R-2.9.1 --enable-Rshlib
--enable-BLAS-shlib --enable-shared --with-readline --with-iconv
--with-x --with-tcktk --with-aqua --with-libpng --with-jpeglib
and I would like to verify that I can use

Child thread libR.so
So I'm working on a custom front end to R, in one mode of the front
end I dynamically load libR.so into a child worker thread. I'm very
careful to make sure it is loaded by a single thread and loaded only
once, but since it is a child thread it violates assumptions made by
the stack size checking inside of R and I get innumerable errors along
the lines of
Error: C stack usage

Pressing either Ctrl-\ of Ctrl-4 core dumps R
When running R from the terminal on Linux (Ubuntu 16.04), it core
dumps whenever / wherever I press Ctrl-4 or Ctrl-\. You get thrown
back to the terminal with "Quit (core dump)" being the only message.
Grepping the R source code, it doesn't look like that message is
generated by R itself. Over on Twitter, it has been confirmed to also
happen on macOS.

multithreading calling from the rpy Python package
Hello,
I don't know if this question ought to go here, or rather on R-devel,
so please bear with me.
I'm interfacing to R via RPy (rpy.sf.net) and an embedded Python
interpreter. This is really quite convenient.
I use this approach to calculate the correlation coefficient of 1
independent dataset (vector) with 4 dependent vectors. It'd be nice if
that could be done in 4 parallel

Red Hat 9 regex symbol conflict
Hello,
I've been struggling with a problem for the past several weeks, trying
to get PL/R (R procedural language handler for PostgreSQL,
http://www.joeconway.com/plr/) to work on Red Hat 9. In brief, R dumps
core during the embedded library initialization, while in Rf_regcomp(),
working on on Rprofile. Below I've included the important parts of a

Running R embedded in an mpiexec spawned process - Fatal error: you must specify '--save', '--no-save' or '--vanilla'
I'd like someone familiar with the R options initialization to comment on a difference of behavior within/without mpiexec
I have a (.NET) application with embedded R that is proven to run in a single process:
./Sample1.exe
on a Debian Linux with R 3.0.2
Running the same code with mpiexec, it fails at the R engine initialization:
mpiexec -n 1 ./Sample1.exe

Help with libiconv problem
A couple of my colleagues are having problems building R-3.2.4 on Mac OS
X El Capitan somehow related to libiconv. I personally don't have any
problems on either of my Macs. I'm hoping thie make log might trigger
something in the readers of this list:

Child thread libR.so
I did some poking around with GDB and confirmed that the advice of
setting R_CStackLimit after init, which is echoed in the "threading
issues" section of the R-exts help document, isn't entirely useful
because init apparently loads the main package which trips over the
broken stack checking.

Hi,
I got the following problem when I type make. The error is not enough

Struggling with javac
I've installed jdk-1_5_0_08-linux-i586.rpm and Tomcat.
Working through some initial test install programs, I am finding that I
can't seem to compile .java files into classes.
For instance...
javac -classpath /usr/local/tomcat/common/lib/servlet.jar HelloWorld.java
as instructed fails with a
gij: unrecognized option -- `-classpath'
Try `gij --help' for more information.

bug in Rf_PrintValue ?
I'm very green with R, so maybe this is not a bug, but it looks like one to
me. The following program segfaults at the second call to Rf_PrintValue().
To failure depends on the value of the y-string. E.g., if I change it from
"coverage" to, say, "COVERAGE", the segfault does not occur.

Using R from Java
Hello,
I am interesting in using R from a web application, for basic statistics and
plots. The server is Java-based (tomcat).
The simplest solution is a system call that generates the text or the image,
then the servlet forwards the output. This can be done from any language,
but it is quite inelegant and slow for the initialization time.
Is there any package or approach for accessing R from a

Problem with Java applications
Hi,
my name is Dieter and this is my 1st post to the list.
I''m currently using shorewall 2.2.5 on SuSE 9.2 and java 1.4.2_06. Overall everything works as expected.
The problem I have occurs with previous versions of shorewall, too.
Problem: When I start a java application like crushftp it takes about 2 minutes until the server is functional.
If I try to interrupt the startup process
