Some questions on repeated measures (M)ANOVA & mixed models with lme4
Dear R Masters, I'm an anesthesiology resident trying to make his way through basic statistics. Recently I have been confronted with longitudinal data in a treatment vs. control analysis. My dataframe is in the form of: subj | group | baseline | time | outcome (long) or subj | group | baseline | time1 |...| time6 | (wide) The measured variable is a continuous one. The null hypothesis in

repeated measures ANOVA
Dear list members: I have the following data: group <- rep(rep(1:2, c(5,5)), 3) time <- rep(1:3, rep(10,3)) subject <- rep(1:10, 3) p.pa <- c(92, 44, 49, 52, 41, 34, 32, 65, 47, 58, 94, 82, 48, 60, 47, 46, 41, 73, 60, 69, 95, 53, 44, 66, 62, 46, 53, 73, 84, 79) P.PA <- data.frame(subject, group, time, p.pa) The ten subjects were randomly assigned to one of two groups and measured

Generating repeated measures data
How would one generate data to be used in a simulation of a repeated measures ANOVA given a known (1) within-person correlation with known (2) mean and SD of data obtained at each of three times of observation? "repeated"repeated measures in ANOVA or mixed model
dear List I have a dataset with blood measurements at 5 points in TIME (0,30,60,90,120) taken on 3 VISITS (same subjects). the interest is to compare these measurements between Visits, overall and at the different time points. I have problems setting up repeated measures ANOVA with 2 repeated measures (VISIT and TIME) (and then doing post hoc testing) or doing it with a linear mixed model ( both

please Help me on a repeated measures anova
I currently work on a draft of an aquatic bioassessment. The conditions tested are the following: ER river water T dechlorinated water control 0.5 + 0.5mg / L of malate T + 1 dechlorinated water control + 1g / L of malate T ED dechlorinated water control SED + ER + river water sediment SED ED + sediment + water dechlorinated. It is the result of AChE in muscle (fillet of fish). The production of

post hoc tests two way repeated measures anova
Hi, is there a specific/appropriate function/package to perform post hoc tests when running a two way repeated measures anova? I'm looking for something that will be equivalent to the 'TukeyHSD()' for between subjects anova (with 'aov()'). For one way repeated measures anova, the 'pairwise.t.test()' function seems to work correctly but the results are questionable for

Repeated-measures anova with a within-subject covariate (or varying slopes random-effects?)
Dear all, I am having quite a hard time in trying to figure out how to correctly spell out a model in R (a repeated-measures anova with a within-subject covariate, I guess). Even though I have read in the posting guide that statistical advice may or may not get an answer on this list, I decided to try it anyway, hoping not to incur in somebody's ire for misusing the tool. For the sake of

anova vs aov commands for anova with repeated measures
Dear all, I need to understand a thing in the beheaviour of the two functions aov and anova in the following case involving an analysis of ANOVA with repeated measures: If I use the folowing command I don´t get any problem: >aov1 = aov(response ~ stimulus*condition + Error(subject/(stimulus*condition)), >data=scrd) > summary(aov1) Instead if I try to fit the same model for the

repeated measures anova
Hi I'm having difficulty working out how to get what I think is the appropriate partitioning of variability in a repeated measures setup. I have G=5 treatment-groups, each containing n=6 subjects, and a response is measured on each subject on t=4 occasions. I think the anova degrees of freedom should partition as follows - Between-subjects: G*n-1=29 [ between-groups: g-1 = 4 ,

Problem with ANOVA repeated measures: "Error() model is singular"
Hello everybody, I need an help because I don´t know if the command for the ANOVA analysis I am performing in R is correct. Indeed using the function aov I get the following error:"In aov (......) Error() model is singular" The structure of my table is the following: subject, stimulus, condition, sex, response Example: subject stimulus condition sex response

Why can repeated measures anova with within & between subjects design not be done if group sizes are unbalanced?
Dear R people: I wish to switch from SPSS to R, but there is one particular type of ANOVA design that cannot be done in R. Or more likely, it can be done, but it is nowhere documented. The problem is typical for psychologists: You have a repeated measures design with different groups of subjects. Now, this can be done with the aov command, but the number of subjects in both groups must be

repeated measures with missing data
Dear R help group, I am teaching myself linear mixed models with missing data since I would like to analyze a stats design with these kind of models. The textbook example is for the procedure "proc MIXED" in SAS, but I would like to know if there is an equivalent in R. This example only includes two time-measurements across subjects (a t-test "with missing values"), but I

Comparing output from linear regression to output from quasipoisson to determine the model that fits best.
R 2.7 Windows XP I have two model that have been run using exactly the same data, both fit using glm(). One model is a linear regression (gaussian(link = "identity")) the other a quasipoisson(link = "log"). I have log likelihoods from each model. Is there any way I can determine which model is a better fit to the data? anova() does not appear to work as the models have the

setting up LMER for repeated measures and how do I get a p value for my fixed effect, group?
R 2.8.1 Windows XP I am trying to analyze repeated measures data (the data are listed at the end of this Email message) and I need help to make sure that I have properly specified my model, and would like to know why lmer does not return a p value for Group, my fixed effect. My subjects are divided into two groups (variable GROUP), individual subjects are indicated by the variable SS, Value is

Measuring correlations in repeated measures data
R-helpers: I would like to measure the correlation coefficient between the repeated measures of a single variable that is measured over time and is unbalanced. As an example, consider the Orthodont dataset from package nlme, where the model is: fit <- lmer(distance ~ age + (1 | Subject), data=Orthodont) I would like to measure the correlation b/t the variable "distance" at

ANOVA/ANCOVA Repeated Measure Mixed Model
Hello, I am trying to test some results I have for significance. It has been recommended that I use R and I am completely new to this. Set-up: Groups: two groups of 8 subjects (16 total) Two conditions: alert and passive Measurements: responses for three different stimuli (A, B, and C) measured in each condition Experiment: Testing the order of conditions Group one: Alert A, B

Repeated Measures/Split-Plot Anova
Hi, My name is Dan Ott and I recently learned R mainly for the purposing of running ANOVA's and linear regression. I just started using a data set where I want to run a repeated measures anova as well as a split-plot anova. My question is: What is the syntax for repeated measures and split-plot anova's? I did a little searching online and it appears that aov might be used for a

Non parametric, repeated-measures, factorial ANOVA
Hi I have data from an experiment that used a repeated-measures factorial 2x2 design (i.e. each participant contributed data to both levels of both factors). I need a non-parametric version of the repeated-measures factorial ANOVA to analyse the data. SPSS only has non-parametric tests for one-way ANOVAs but I have been told that the test I need can be implemented using the R software.

repeated measures anova, sphericity, epsilon, etc
I have 3 questions (below). Background: I am teaching an introductory statistics course in which we are covering (among other things) repeated measures anova. This time around teaching it, we are using R for all of our computations. We are starting by covering the univariate approach to repeated measures anova. Doing a basic repeated measures anova (univariate approach) using aov() seems

repeated measures ANOVA using a cov matrix
Dear all, how can I perform a repeated measures ANOVA using a covariance matrix as input? E.g., I have four repeated measures (N = 200) with mean vector tau (no BS factor): tau <- rbind(1.10, 2.51, 2.76, 3.52) and covariance matrix (sigma): sigma <- matrix(c(0.523, 0.268, 0.267, 0.211, 0.268, 0.444, 0.492, 0.571, 0.267, 0.492, 1.213,
