format numbers as words
Does anyone know if there is a function available which can format any entered number as words? eg: ''1234'' would be ''One Thousand Two Hundred and Thirty Four'' In the past, I would have said this is a tall order, but from what I''ve seen with playing with rails for a short time, I don''t know what to expect. :) Thanks for any help, Damien

making a plot in xyplot
Hello, I am a newbie to the lattice package in R, and I'm trying to make a plot using the xyplot function. I have repeated measures data (2 conditions) for two different groups of subjects (teens and adults). So far, I've made a basic graph using xyplot(y ~x, group=subnum, data=mydata, type="b"). Now I would like to make all the teens' lines one color and the adults'

Sounds like a sound driver issue. Might want to try the SMP version of OSS (www.opensound.com). Do other sound apps work OK? -bg > On Sat, 20 Oct 2001, Akos Maroy wrote: > > /me cries, bummer deal. > Yes, running as root. > The load was in the 'teens as I remember, I looked @ that too. > One CPU was like 15% and the other 11%, something like that. > 2.2.19ext3 #2 SMP,

cbind(deparse.level=2,...) problems
Should the deparse.level=2 argument to cbind and rbind be abandoned? It is minimally documented, not used in any CRAN package, and causes some problems. E.g., (a) If a matrix input has row names but not column names cbind(deparse.level=2,...) stops. > m<-matrix(11:14,nrow=2,ncol=2,dimnames=list(Row=c("R1","R2"),Col=charact er())) > cbind(m, 101:102,

Is the matrix exponential available in some package? The cannonical reference is "Nineteen dubious ways to take the exponential of a matrix". (Love that title) Terry T.

prop.test() references
Dear R-help, I'm using prop.test() to compute a confidence interval for a proportion under R version 2.4.1, as in: prop.test(x = 340, n = 400)$conf [1] 0.8103309 0.8827749 I have two questions: 1) from the source code my understanding is that the confidence interval is computed according to Wilson, E.B. I have a problem with some functions handling dates, in packages 'date' and 'survival' (they seem to be identical). Asterisk (meetme) and SMP/HT OK?
In the past, there have been reports of problems with Asterisk with multiple processors and/or HyperThreading. I'm having a !@#$ of a problem with an HPDL380 with 2 3.4gHz Xeon processors, 2 gb RAM -- if I got 24 hours I'd think I had died and gone to heaven :) Am I missing something obvious like "Asterisk is single CPU, single core?" I can't access the ILO so I

English vs American voice files
My wife's got an appropriate Southern England (Wimbledon) accent and I'm sure she would try her hand. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the words that need to be said? Matt, do you have them if your wife's done a set for French users? Mark, if you have the kit maybe you could chop up the file? I write a utility to chop up and compress the wave file based on some of the C
