Windows update
Hi! How do you guys solve windows security updates? Is there a way to force windows computers to be updated. Even more flexible is if one can update windows through login script. glm fit with no intercept
Dear R-help list members, I am currently trying to fit a generalized linear model using a binomial with the canonical link. The usual solution is to use the R function glm() in the package "stats". However, I run into problem when I want to fit a glm without an intercept. It is indicated that the solution is in changing the function glm.fit (also in "stats"), by specifying

Running R away from windows (to Linux)
I want to migrate my R workspace databases (e.g., .Rdata) from Windows to Linux. The R help file for "save" says that "[a]ll R platforms use the XDR representation of binary objects in binary save-d files, and these are portable across all R platforms." Is it is simple as that? Copy the Windows .Rdata file to the Linux .ext3 file system? Thanks, Derek Derek N. Eder

Samba Ldap tls/ssl problem
Hi! I know this should be asked to the Openldap mailing list but: I?m trying to set up a Samba/ldap environment were the Samba server is separated from the ldap server. Everything seams to work on the ldap server and when I do a ldapsearch like this: ldapsearch -H ldap://l1.dbb.su.se/ -b dc=dbb,dc=su,dc=se ?x Everything works on both. But when I do: ldapsearch -H ldaps://l1.dbb.su.se/ -b

smbd process
We are in the process of updating samba on our Solaris servers from (2.0.5) to (3.0.2) I have completed one host and all seems to working ok. However I have noticed that for both versions of samba, as users map shares the smbd process which starts can be either own by root or the users id. This seems to be random. Can anyone shed light as to what controls the owner of this process. This is

samba as file server with more than one account server
Hi, Is it possible to have a samba storage cluster attached to more than one domain? Maybe a virtual server were each viritual server runs different daemons and smb.conf files? TLS statement
I have a TLS enabled SAMBA/LDAP server. I have a statement and you can tell me if I?m right or wrong. Windows clients authenticate to samba with ordinary samba-password. Samba parse it tls enabled further to the openldap server. Now if I have Samba and ldap on the same computer the tls is useless in this issue but it?s create between different server computers. It is also create if one has a

samba with cups / security = share
Hi, I have a new samba/cups printer server. The security is set to SHARE so everyone in the network can add and print to our printers even if they doesn't have any account on the server. To be able to upload printer drivers one need to log in as administrator, but one can't do that unless the security is set to USER and a login screen appears. During this time everyone is locked out from

Returning position of mouse cursor (without button press) ?
I would like a function that return the X,Y position of the mouse cursor whenever it is called PERIOD, i.e., without the button presses of locator() or identify(). E.G., > where.is.mouse() [1] 123 34 # X and Y coordinates of present mouse position in current graphics window Is this a conceivable R function or does it need to be addressed with a call to the OS (Windows 2000 in my case)?

Scope problems - passing an argument from one function to another (LME) within
I am having trouble understanding what must be a quite simple rule of scope. In the code example below, the argument to the main function, my.subset, would like to be passed to the function LME. This does not happen however. Curiously, the other argument (my.data) is passed to LME. This problem goes away with this: assign("my.subset", my.subset, env = sys.frame()). It works, but it

Regular Expressionsionism
Isn't there a cryptic footnote somewhere in the blue book that describes regular expressions as "a funny little language ..." ? Well, I'm not laughing! I've googled and Man paged, but the GREP-style solution to the following problem still eludes me: ... Using a regular expression in the "pattern" argument to list.files() to restrict the return to filenames which

Samba-3 openldap gssapi auth to kerberos
Hi! How do I configure smb.conf and/or Pam as a single sign on server if I have a LDAP server with a Kerberos as password backend through gssapi? I only see either Samba/ldap as PDC or Samba/kerberos with ads on the Internet. Not both at the same time? I've already configured samba with LDAP and Kerberos support. Everything seams to works. I also configured Samba with ads and Pam support if
