question about xtable and Hmisc
I would like to get rid of the row numbers using xtable and latex. The commands d = cbind(1:10,rep(1:2,5)) ans = xtable(d) latex(ans) gives output containing \begin{tabular}{rrr} \hline & 1 & 2 \\ \hline 1 & 1.00 & 1.00 \\ 2 & 2.00 & 2.00 \\ 3 & 3.00 & 1.00 \\ 4 & 4.00 & 2.00 \\ 5 & 5.00 & 1.00 \\ 6 & 6.00 &

sample(c(0, 1)...) vs. rbinom
Greetings.? My wife is teaching an introductory stat class at UC Davis.? The class emphasizes the use of simulations, rather than mathematics, to get insight into statistics, and R is the mandated tool.?? A student in the class recently inquired about different approaches to sampling from a binomial distribution.? I've appended some code that exhibits the idea, the gist of which is that using

How to include the documentation of a function in a Sweave document?
Dear R-help, I would like to include the documentation of an R function in an *.rnw document processed by Sweave. Because I'm sharing my *.rnw files with colleagues under Linux and Windows (I'm on Mac OS X), I would like a pure R solution. The naive approach doesn't work, because Sweaving this *.rnw file: -------- tmp.rnw -------- \documentclass{article} \begin{document}

Legend outside plotting area
Hi, I have been trying many of the suggested options to place a legend outside plotting area, including something like this: par(xpd=T, oma=par()$oma+c(4.5,0,1.5,0),mar=par()$mar+c(1,0,1,0) But the aspect of the four plots gets compromised when I change the margin settings. I cannot use mtext because I need to use colors for the text. I tried layout, but wouldn't let me include

Adding a legend to a symbol plot
I have created a symbol plot with circles that represent the mean temperature at lat/lon locations over the United States. The radius of the circle corresponds to the mean temperature. I would like to add a legend that identifies a range of temperatures (e.g. 0-10, 10-20, etc) with circles of the appropriate radii next to them. I've read the manual on how to add a legend, and I'm fine with

Memory limits for MDSplot in randomForest package
Hello, I am struggling to produce an MDS plot using the randomForest package with a moderately large data set. My data set has one categorical response variables, 7 predictor variables and just under 19000 observations. That means my proximity matrix is approximately 133000 by 133000 which is quite large. To train a random forest on this large a dataset I have to use my institutions high

tcltk error on Linux
I am having trouble getting tcltk package to load on openSuse 10.2 running R-devel. I have specifically put my /usr/share/tcl directory in my PATH, but R doesn't seem to see it. legend with mixed boxes and lines (not both)
Hi, I seem to be unable to get a mixed legend that has lines *or* polygons (not both). For example: ppi <- seq(0,2*pi,length.out=21)[-21] frame() plot.window(ylim=c(-5,5),xlim=c(-5,5),asp=1) polygon(cos(ppi)*4+rnorm(20,sd=.2),sin(ppi)*4+rnorm(20,sd=.2), col="green",border=FALSE) polygon(cos(ppi)*2+rnorm(20,sd=.1),sin(ppi)*2+rnorm(20,sd=.1), col="blue",border=FALSE)

ps or pdf
Hi everyone, I have been making a fair amount of figures in R recently that I've been touching up with Illustrator and I've found a difference between pdf and ps files and I was wondering if someone could enlighten me about them. While the figures look the same, the ps version tends to have truncated strings. The last character of short strings tends to be on a string of its own, located
