Impulses
After playing with the vorbis code for a while and doing tons of hacks and
analysis on it, I've found it to perform very poorly with impulse signals.
The MDCT seems to cause lots of spreading, and it seems to result in much
worse impulse performance then mp3.
What is the current plan on handling this? Will a smart quantizer be able
to avoid it?
I've been looking at various ways of

Bubble plots
Is there a way to create a 'bubble plot' in R?
For example, if we define the following data frame containing the level of y observed for 5 patients at three time points:
time<-c(rep('time 1',5),rep('time 2',5),rep('time 3',5))

Bug/limitation: allowoptions (for label), implicit (for automated)
Hello,
At the boot prompt ALLOWOPTIONS 0 is only applied to implicit kernels and not to labels. For configuration which want to allow selection, but prevent customization of the kernel command line, this behaviour is bad.
Also the IMPLICIT 0 is applied to both the boot prompt and configuration setting (like DEFAULT); but one could argue that only the command supplied at the prompt make sense to

how to analyze time series structures?
h?, I am preparing undergraduate thesis If you help me this would make me
feel good.
First I need to analyze effect of Dow Jones Industrial average(DJIA)'s
return on Istanbul Stock Exchange(ISE). I want to use Markov-Switching
Bayesian Vector Autoregression Models (MSBVAR) that is used to examine the
effect of a large economy?s stock exchange movement on a small economy?s

Best way of figuring out whether graphical elements overlap?
Hi all,
I'm plotting impulses, where some of them should have labels hovering above them. I know of plotrix' spread.labels function, but would like to save that for instances where there truely is to little space for the label.
Does anybody have any hints what' the most efficient way might be to achieve the following:
- plot an impulse plot
- before placing each of a vector of text

[LLVMdev] set line number debug info
Thanks for the help.
I thought I'd solved the problem (setting the line number information in the
instruction metadata) by inserting my own function for setting line number
in llvm/Support/DebugLoc.h. I have added a function setLine(unsigned) in
DebugLoc class. The function simply sets the LineCol variable as needed. But
there is a problem.
Whenever I'm checking the line number(calling

Disentagling formulas
I am writing a program in which I would like to take in a formula, change the response (Y) variable into something else, and then pass the formula, with the new Y variable to another function. That is, I am starting with
formula <- Y~X1+X2+X3
and I'd like to do something like
Y <- formula$Y
newY <- f(Y)
lm(newY~X1+X2+X3)
So far, it seems that my

limiting simulated animal movement
Hi,
I am trying to simulate animal movement in a gridded landscape made up of
cells. At each time step (iteration), the animal moves from one cell to
another in a random fashion.
This is how I am simulating movement, where a and b are the x,y co-ordinates
of the animal at the previous time step:
for (i in 1:no.of.steps){
direction <- sample(1:8, 1)
if(direction == 1){
a <- a
b <- b -

fancier plotting
Hi
thank you for talking the time to help me with this.
I have a sequence of numbers in a file and an equal sequence of various character, say(a b c d) each occurs more than once. I need to plot the numbers so that numbers corresponding to a in the other sequence would have green dots, those corresponding to b a red dot, nothing on c and blue square for d. i.e

Creating Movies with R
Dear All,
I'd like to know if it is possible to create animations with R.
To be specific, I attach a code I am using for my research to plot
some analytical results in 3D using the lattice package. It is not
necessary to go through the code.
Simply, it plots some 3D density profiles at two different times
selected by the user.
I wonder if it is possible to use the data generated for different

Impulse fails to start
So I tried to run Impulse on my Ubuntu 11.04 laptop and it installed fine (or at least seemed to). When I tried to run it I got the working cursor for a bit then nothing. I ran it in terminal and got a error message about running the Windows version of Mono so I went online and did a search for the error message and found a file called mono-2.4.2.3-gtksharp-2.12.9-win32-3.exe and ran it. Shading area under density curves
Hello,
I have a question regarding shading regions under curves to display
95% confidence intervals. I generated bootstrap results for the slope
and intercept of a simple linear regression model using the following
code (borrowed from JJ Faraway 2005):

Can't read/write to _nonfi
Good afternoon,
Hope you all have a wonderful day. I am glad to be here. Hope you could
help me with the following errors that i have been trying to figure it all
out since last week.
I am using Splus from Insightful, and as i read, R and Splus are very
similar. So hope you could help me.
I have been continously received these error messages after i ran my small
program for couple of
