plot help
Hi, Suppose I already have two plots on the same screen, and I want to draw lines in each of them. Is that possible in R? It seems that once you have two plots on the screen, you can only draw lines in the the last plot, never the 1st. Here is what I mean: #some data y1=rnorm(1:3) y2=rnorm(1:3) #draw two plots on the same screen par(mfrow=c(2,1),oma = c(6, 0, 5, 0)) par(mar=c(0, 5.1, 0, 5.1))

How to add background color of a 2D chart by quadrant
Hi, I have a 2D chart that is divided into four quadrants, I, II, III, IV: plot(1:10,ylim=c(0,10),xlim=c(0,10),type="n") abline(v=5,h=5) text(x=c(7.5,7.5,2.5,2.5),y=c(2.5,7.5,7.5,2.5),labels=c("I","II","III","IV")) I would like to fill each quadrant with a background color unique to the quadrant. Does anyone know how to do this in R? Thanks, --

arranging pie charts in a matrix layout with row/col labels
Hi, I have a vector of data, that I group based on two factors via tapply. For each such grouping I would like to plot a pie chart. I can layout these pie charts in a matrix layout, correpsonding to the levels of the two factors. But I am getting stuck on how to label the rows and colums. My current approach looks like this: x <- data.frame(obs=sample(c('low', 'high'),100,

help- subtitles for multiple charts
Hello, I have a problem with my script. I don'y know how to apply subtitles. I have 9 charts per page (for combination of 3 blocks and 3 treatments). I want to have subtitles for this interaction (e.g. Block A Trt 1, Block A Trt 2, ...) display two pie-charts
Hey, i'd like to compose a clock-like looking plot composed out of two circles, each showing the length of a period (to compare them). first, to do so, it looked the easiest by using pie(), just puting multiple pie-charts over each other. the problem is that once the second pie is drawn, it replaces the first one. does anybody know how to add a second, smaller pie over an existing one,

OT: Pie charts
We regularly get questions about making pie charts, and frequently veer off into the philosophical and practical issues surrounding that form of data graphic: human perception of angles and so on. So while this isn't an R issue, I thought some of you might appreciate this brief discussion of the efficacy of pie charts: http://fakescience.tumblr.com/post/6042293374/understanding-pie-charts

Reccomendation for graphics package
Hello, What would you recommend for producing publication-quality plots with R? Built-in graphics, trellis, ggplot2, or something else? Basic requirements: - I need to draw line-, box-, density-plots, bar-charts and histograms - error bars on bar- and box-plots - easy tiling of multiple plots on a single "page" Basic R plotting with mfrow and mfcol parameters is not satisfactory

Multi-panel Pie Charts.
Hi All, I'm trying to find out a way to plot multi-panel pie charts. It may not be the best way to present data, but I would still need one. 1. Is anyone aware of some in-built script/function which can do this for me. I'm aware of one given in Deepayan's book, but anything apart from this? 2. I tried using Deepayan's script on following data set but it doesn't seem to work

Bar charts, frequencies known, intervals of varying width
Hi I would like to plot bar charts in a particular way. The intervals are not evenly distributed and are in a data frame column called size and the relative frequencies are in a second column called mass. Both size and mass are continuous ratio data to all intents and purposes. The data actually represents sieving of sand where $size is sieve aperture and where $mass is the amount remaining on

Bubble Plot with Pie Charts
Hi there! I have seen that someone had this question some years before, but there was only a rough answer to it and I was wondering if actually someone was able to accomplish it or maybe even wrote a function... How do you make a bubble plot where you have pie charts instead of bubbles? I have a geographic map and need to plot attribute-sized pie charts representing a second attribute at

multiple plots problem
hello, i try to plot 3 graphs which have the same x.axis underneath each other. i'd like the plots to be aligned without margings between the boxes and draw a single x axis beneath the lowest plot. i managed to get the alignment by setting par(mar), but the middle box is stretched and i cant't figure out how to get around this. par(pin) was my guess, but this doesn't do the job

Help with charting time in seconds as HH:MM:SS on charts
Hello, I am dealing with data stored in a database as a 'time' object. I export the data from the database to a text file and utilize the 'time_to_sec()' function of the database to convert the human readable time (HH:MM:SS) to seconds so that I can use R to do analysis and create charts of the data. I do not need or use days or dates in the data, and the data range is from

reducing space between charts in lattice graphics
Hi, I'm trying to create a lattice plot with three xyplots in one vertical column. I would like to reduce the vertical space between the charts. My code is below. There seems to be a "between" parameter for lattice.options, but I can't find any examples. Aside from the data setup, the code is below. Can anyone provide an example showing how to reduce the white space between the

Stacked area chart and legends
I have found lots of good advice on this forum about stacked area charts but I?ve run into problems with the 2 recommended options: stackploy in plotrix or qplot in ggplot2. I have a many page report that will be in a 2x2 page format ?par(mfrow=c(2,2))?? and need one of the page components to be a stacked chart. I?d prefer to use stackpoly, if possible, but I?m stuck on how to do the legend in

GD2 to Make Charts
I''m just getting started with GD2 and have successfully made a few dynamic PNGs. I need to make some fairly detailed line graphs on the fly and I know that GD2 is capable of what I want but I strongly suspect I''m reinventing the wheel badly. Are there gems or other projects that help creating complex charts? I''ve used GDChart in the distant past but I
