Errors in data frames from read.table
Hello, all. I am working on a project with a large (~350Mb, about 5800 rows) insurance claims dataset. It was supplied in a tilde(~)-delimited format. I imported it into a data frame in R by setting memory.limit to maximum (4Gb) for my computer and using read.table. The resulting data frame had 10 bad rows. The errors appear due to read.table missing delimiter characters, with multiple data

Mongrel cluster with one app and many mysql databases
Hi All, I am new to the mongrel mailing list and I have a question (and I didn''t find any answer in the archives). I have successfully installed the apache2.2 proxy balancer with mongrel cluster and that works just fine. For a single rails app I have started 2 mongrels which consume about 100M (ps says 5.0% for each and I have 1G RAM). It seems a bit much but OK. However that would

include directory and all files under
Sorry, but it seems everytime I setup a different rsync operation (client only) I end up here unraveling the include/exclude stuff I need. The documentation is quite good but I guess the subject is just quite a bit to chew. To cut to the chase: I want to sync up my own snapshot repository of openbsd. The basic install files. They reside at:

Solaris 10 + Samba + LDAP - how to?
Hi all, Some of you may recall a little while ago I posted a fairly complex request about integrating samba into a solaris 10 fileserver and using Open LDAP as the primary authentication source. Well, I got no responses as I believe it may have been too complicated-a-request/ question. So, a simplification and some different questions. 1. I have a Solaris 10 x86 host that I'd like to

Can't add machine account to domain
I am running samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0 on RedHat 9.0. The domain I am trying to join has a different name than the workgroup I am trying to leave. Below is a copy of the last two entries of the computer_name.log, which are created when I try to add the machine account. Documentation error: wrong permissions given in FAQ
Hi, I discovered yesterday that the instructions given at http://www.openssh.org/faq.html#3.14 regarding the correct permissions for the authorized_keys file mistakenly recommend chmod'ing the file to 600 when it should be 644. The requirement for public key authentication to work is in fact that ~/.ssh/authorized_keys is readable (but not writable) by group and other, not just owner. Someone

Ice cast Hacking
Hello,The station I run using ice cast keeps being targeted by a hacker. They manage to kill and start our stream at there own will. They have messaged us through a fake Facebook account telling us that they are hacking us and that in order for it to stop we need to give them our Wordpress admin, this was obviously never sent over. Any suggestions on how to stop and defend these attacks would be

Interpreting factor*numeric interaction coefficients
Dear all, I am a relative novice with R, so please forgive any terrible errors... I am working with a GLM that describes a response variable as a function of a categorical variable with three levels and a continuous variable. These two predictor variables are believed to interact. An example of such a model follows at the bottom of this message, but here is a section of its summary table:

Select elements from text
Hi, I have a series of MS word files and each file contains plain text. From these texts I would like to extract only those elements (read: words) that are between square brackets. Example of a text: Most fundamentally, it has led to an effort to clarify the organizational form concept. According to them [see also Smith, Jones and Carroll 2002], categories emerge as audience members recognize

When I click those, it does not open in the player it says there. codec used on E1
I've got a * box with a TDM40B and an E100P. The E1 is connected to a Shout900 VoIP gateway from net.com. My question is, when I place a call from an analog phone and that call is routed over the E1, what encoding is used? And do I have any control over that? I'm obviously not an expert here, but the Shout900 vendor is claiming that some difficulties that we are having with integration are

Sorry to reply to myself, but I wanted to expand this to -stable and add some more info... See the original post at the bottom of this msg. I just took the Smart 2/P and put it in slot1 (one of the shared Eisa/PCI slots.) Now the Dmesg output shows the "SMP: AP CPU" lines in a different order... They were: SMP: AP CPU# 3 Launched! SMP: AP CPU# 1 Launched! SMP: AP CPU# 2 Launched! now

Column order in stacking/unstacking
Dear R users, I'm having some problems with the stack() and unstack() functions, and wondered if you could help. I have a large data frame (400 rows x 2000 columns), which I need to reduce to a single column of values (and therefore 800000 rows), so that I can use it in other operations (e.g., generating predictions from a GLM object). However, the problem I'm having can be reproduced
